2 Page 2 Foothills Connection Adult Small Group Studies Beginning January 6, 10:30 AM, Room #5 Being a Chris,an Disciple in the 21 st Century. On January 6, 2019, a small group study at FUMC will begin a new series called First Light - Jesus and the Kingdom of God, one of many from the Living the Ques+ons program, began by two Methodist ministers in Phoenix, Arizona. U+lizing input from some of our genera+on's most provoca+ve and thoughkul theological voices, Living the Ques+ons is their effort to help people wrestle with the ques+ons they hear asked in their congrega+ons ques+ons for which there are no easy answers, but which s+mulate exci+ng possibili+es for prac+cing the Chris+an faith in the 21 st century. First Light is a 12-session DVD study of the historical Jesus and the Kingdom of God with two of the world s leading Jesus scholars on loca+on throughout the Galilee and Jerusalem. Here s a tes+monial from Mary Sue Evers, Pastor, Cedar Hills United Church of Christ: If you're looking for a resource to help people get beyond the idea that the Kingdom of God is about heavenly reward, to help people understand the Biblical and historical underpinnings of the Kingdom of God as Jesus lived and taught it, and to help people ar+culate the understanding that the Kingdom of God is a present reality dis+nct from and oen opposed to other kingdoms of our world, then take a good look at the latest Living the Ques+ons DVD "First Light - Jesus and the Kingdom of God," featuring Marcus Borg and Dominic Crossan. If this series is anything like past Living the Ques+ons series we have studied, this small group study promises to be exci+ng and thought-provoking. It will be held in Room #5 at 10:30 AM following the 9:30 AM Sunday service. For more details please contact Ron Sachs at ronald.sachs@yahoo.com. Lenten Formation Team In Memory We hold the family and friends of Cheloye Carstens in prayer as they mourn her passing. Cheloye died on December 11 aer a long and challenging period of declining health. We give thanks to God for Cheloye s life and the knowledge that in the fullness of God s presence, Cheloye is finally free of the physical limita+ons that she struggled with for such a long +me. On the Move Pete and Elaine Coleman have moved into Sacramento to be in closer proximity to family members. If you would like their new address, please feel free to contact Jessie in the church office and request it. And please hold Pete and Elaine in your prayers as they adjust to their new living situa+on. Communion Help If you d be interested in being part of a small group of 5 to 6 people that will work with Pastor Mike to discern a meaningful vision for our upcoming Lenten season, please sign up at the Get Connected table. Par+cipa+on will involve one mee+ng (January 20, 2:30-4:30 PM) focused on learning a li2le about the tradi+onal history of the worship season, brainstorming possible themes, and discerning meaningful scripture passages to root our Sunday morning worship experiences in. Would you be willing to occasionally help serve Communion during our 9:30 AM worship service? If so, please sign up at the Get Connected table. Guidance for serving Communion will be provided each Communion Sunday (first Sunday of the month) prior to the start of worship. If you volunteered in 2018, and would like to con- +nue to volunteer in 2019, please let us know by signing up again. It was also enjoyable spending me with the youth at their Christmas party and spreading Christmas cheer caroling with members from the congregaon.
