2 Page 2 If you were like me and probably millions of other people a few nights ago you spent considerable time looking at the super moon lunar eclipse. It was fascinating, wasn t it? I was actually disappointed when I looked the first time: it was cloudy! The second time it just looked like any other moon. But then I noticed how fast it was changing. Before long, I looked out and it was that orangey-red color that we were all expecting. I didn t stay awake long enough, but before long, the moon was back to its usual full look. Isn t it amazing? We so often underestimate the magnitude of God and his creation. I cannot even begin to think about how powerful and majestic and creative God must be to have set the moon in orbit around the earth, and the earth in orbit around the sun. Can you imagine God thinking, Every so often, the sun and moon and earth will line up directly, and one will shadow the other. And sometimes, when the conditions are just right, the moon will appear orange! Okay, I have greatly simplified what God has done, but you understand what I mean, right? What an amazing God we have! This same amazing God, who created the sun and moon and earth created you. As his creation, he loves you even more! We learned in our Revolve Sermon Series that 1. It s not about you; it s about God and that God created you for a purpose that you can only find when your life revolves around God; 2. Worship is not just for Sunday but for every day; 3. Worship is not just part of your life, but God needs to be your focal point. I find it God s wonderful timing that we are talking about our lives revolving around God right when the revolving of the moon and earth made a beautiful super moon lunar eclipse. As you reflect on what a blessing it was to watch it, consider your life. God has made you wonderful and beautiful. Are you living into it? Around what does your life revolve? It is my hope that you have rededicated to revolving around God, so that like the moon, you can reflect God s love for all to see. I ll see you in church, where we practice reflecting God s love.

We passed out create-your-own puzzles for School Bus Café and Need a Life Preserver? lifesaver cards inviting people to Dairy Days worship. Dairy Days worship was as wonderful as ever! Thanks to Blind Faith Band for the wonderful music, Sara Koeller for the fantastic children s message, and Pastor Brenda for the great sermon.

4 Page 4 PLATTE RIVER REGIONAL MINISTRY Grades 4-6 th grades On September 25 th, we had an amazing time at Youthsters. Seven children came and made gluten-free cupcakes for the Family Promise Fundraiser in October. This was an awesome opportunity to do something for others. The Youthsters kids loved doing this and enjoyed a treat as Fun in well. We also enjoyed some Bible character August! name trivia and had an explosive time with Nate during science time. Unfortunately, we were so involved in all the excitement we didn t get any pictures this month. If you know of any 4 th -6 th graders who would like to participate in Youthsters, please contact Pastor Liz. Look for more Youthsters FUN in October! Grades 7-12 Brat Sale Fundraiser October 17 th 10:00 am - 2:00 pm Heiser Ace Hardware Halloween Costume Party October 31 st 7:00 pm Whig UMC Campus Ministry Pioneer Wesley has had an excellent start to the year! We have had 16 students participate in a variety of things from worship to homework at the church, to Dinner and Discussion, to having lunch with Pastor Liz. Thank you to all of those who have made lunch or have signed up to make lunch on Saturdays. It s great to have a homemade meal before an afternoon of studying. If you would like to provide a meal, please sign up in the lobby. Pioneer Wesley also meets on campus in the Markee Student Center on Tuesday nights from 5:00-6:00 pm. Watch for us in the UW-Platteville Homecoming Parade!

5 Page 5 Sunday Sept 27 was the last day for Blind Faith Director Terry Dillon. Terry led the band for 15 years. He said, It has been an honor and a privilege to lead this group of talented musicians, past and present, for the last 15 years. But, times change and I feel that it's time to step down and let someone else take the reins. I wish nothing but success for this group moving forward. Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of this musical worship. Terry was thanked with a standing ovation and a cupcake reception. Thank you Terry! We wish you well as you move forward. Several children received new Bibles. Congratulations! We will pray for you as you grow in faith! Please welcome Chris VanDeWiel as our new Administrative Assistant. Chris starts on Monday, October 5 th. Look in the November Newsletter to learn more about her! Charge Conference Thanks to an anonymous donor, the book Revolve by Nelson Searcy was given to everyone who attended worship September 20 th. If you did not get one, there are still some books available in the lobby. Our annual Charge Conference is Wednesday, October 28 th at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.

If you have a picture of yourself or other family members in uniform, please bring those to share. United Methodist Women LOCAL NEWS October 6 th : General Meeting at 1:30 pm in the Wesley Room Program: Sharing the District Celebration, Host: Doris Tatge & Donna Stephens October 15 th : Rebekah Fellowship Group Meeting at 9:00 am for Coffee with Meeting/ Program to follow. Program: Mission Study - Carol Lange. Hostess: Connie Cushman DISTRICT NEWS UMW District Celebration at Dodgeville, September 12 th was a time for celebrating the past and present of the Coulee District. There were displays of work and a celebration of the women who have helped the district to be in mission. These were some of the projects/people recognized from our unit: Ruth Walther, missionary & work with St. Paul's School in Tampa, FL Mary Doescher as president of the district Member who helped start the Thrift Shop Worked with other churches to start Church Women United Two members who helped form Coulee District UMW Helped start the Nursery Scholarships to young people going to camp Support of MYF trips Helped organize a Mother's Club Support to Pine Lake Camp when it was being developed & help with maintenance and remodeling Support for Family Advocates, Northcott House, Children's Services, Hmong House, Harbor House & Chaplain Ministry in Madison Prayer Shawl Ministry and Sewing Group Support of Mission Committee projects for families Yearly cleaning of the kitchen and sanctuary Held study classes with UMW material Many members served on district committees and as president May be hard to believe, but at one time, there were 11 groups, 9 fellowship units and 2 guilds for working women. Needed/Wanted: People who can knit or crochet to help make prayer shawls and the baby blankets. Our supply is dwindling and we are going to be in need of shawls and blankets to share. People who have received them are so appreciative. As one recently wrote, "The hug of the shawl is a reminder to me that God will take care of me. To the Women who give comfort to those who need healing". Yes, UMW IS MISSION!

Thank you! Our First BIG DAY is October 11 th! We are setting a goal to DOUBLE our worship attendance on our first BIG DAY, Sunday, October 11 th. We are looking for an attendance of people at each service, for a total of people! In order for our first BIG Day to be a success, we want EVERYBODY to attend worship that day, and we want EVERYBODY to INVITE someone to worship. Think about who you might invite that does not have a church home. Pray each day for an opportunity (and the courage!) to invite that person. Big Day!
