On the weekend of September 29th- 30th we received $3025. Thank you for your continued and generous support of our parish. To All Parishioners We will have a listening session for parishioners who want to discuss the clergy sexual abuse scandal in the church. The session will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7p.m. in the church hall. This is an opportunity for parishioners to share their feelings and concerns in regards to this issue affecting the church. Father David Hope for Housing Food Card Sale Food cards to benefit the Hope for Housing Program sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition To Prevent Family Homelessness will be available this weekend, October 6 and 7. Your continued support of this project is appreciated. Future sale dates are October 20 and 21 and November 3 and 4. Sales will remain the first and third weekend of each month. We hope you consider this project for your Holiday shopping and gift giving. Should you require large amounts, please talk to the sellers regarding your needs. 4 10/07/2018 The Next Alpha Session is on Sunday, October 14 th from 4:00p.m. 6:00p.m. Alpha is a simple course in Christian basics. It s an opportunity to deepen your faith, develop new friendships and explore life s meaning in a friendly setting! Alpha will be offered at St. Columba on six Sunday afternoons this fall. Each week the sessions begin with dinner. A DVD presentation and small group discussion follow. All adults are welcome as we explore basic questions about God s existence, the purpose of life, the teachings of Jesus and much more. OUTREACH MINISTRY For several years we have had many parishioners who bring Communion on the weekend to our homebound or hospitalized parishioners. By bringing Communion to our homebound you show how valued they are as members of the parish and meet Jesus in the lives of these people. Please contact the rectory at to let us know if there is someone who would like to receive a visit and Communion or if you would like to join this ministry. Training is provided. Taize Moves to Blessed Sacrament Church The Taize group that has been singing at Assumption College for six years has moved to Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant St., Worcester. All are welcome to the next service on Sunday, Oct.14 at 7pm. The Taize (pronounced Ta-zay) tradition is a style of sacred music and prayer developed in France after World War II by Catholic and Protestants to come together in song and prayer for peace in the world and unity in the Christian faith. Songbooks are available to join in the song if desired. It will continue on the second Sunday of the month through December. 5 10/07/2018 Visitation House Baby Bottle Fundraiser From October 20tht through November 18 th, St. Columba parish is participating in a Baby Bottle Fundraiser to benefit Visitation House, a Catholic home for homeless women facing crisis pregnancies. Please support Visitation House by taking a baby bottle and filling it with your spare money. We will be distributing the bottles at all Masses on the weekend of October 20/21st and collecting them back on the weekend of November 17/18th. Give that a child may live. Your gift of whatever size will be greatly appreciated. The smallest gift from God is our greatest treasure. 40 Days for Life The Pro-Life Committee will meet in the church parking lot at 1:30PM on Tuesday, October 11 to join the 40 Days for Life gathering to pray to end abortion activities of Planned Parenthood. 40 Days for Life runs from 9/26 through 11/4 and parishioners are encouraged to attend at any time. 27 TH Sunday in Ordinary Time So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. (GENESIS 2:19) The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations.
