Thanks to you, the truck was full. SPIRITUALITY Our ANNUAL UNITY SERVICE with Lewis Metropolitan C. M. E. Church, will be held here on Sunday, June 24 th at 2:00 pm. Lunch will be served at 12:45 pm (Church Hall). All are welcome. The Guadalupe Celebration: The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Knights of Columbus are honored to present an international celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. It will feature dynamic speakers, engaging performers, and powerful prayer, providing an opportunity for the faithful of the greater Los Angeles area to come together and present a powerful witness of their Marian Devotion and Catholic faith to their communities. The celebration will take place on Sunday, August 5 th, 3:00 pm, FREE admission and open to the public. Tickets may be obtained from the church office or the Guadalupanos Ministry. Bus transportation will be available for $5, leaving from St. Brigid at 1:30 pm. If you are going to the celebration, you need to sign-up so we can order your FREE ticket(s), and transportation should you need it. SUNDAY CATHOLIC TV MASS: Heart of the Nation, in partnership with local parishes, has been serving homebound Catholics with the Sunday TV Mass since In the Los Angeles metro area, the Mass airs on KDOC-TV Channel 56 at 9:00am. Did you know that every Catholic school in the Los Angeles Archdiocese is required to have a written plan for emergency procedures? The plan must include provisions for fire, earthquake, disaster and evacuation drills and lockdown procedures that conform to local, state and county requirements. Each school s plan must be updated annually, and made available to parents. Does your own family have a similar plan for what to do and where to gather in the event of an emergency? 8 8 St. Brigid Church "Stewardship as a way of life" Inspiration by the Hours "Here is the test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't." It is amazing how many stewardship hours are donated to our parish by our devoted parishioners. Let's start with just a weekend of Masses and calculate the hours that are given in service to build the Kingdom of God here at St. Brigid: 4 Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at each of our four liturgies (24 hours) 1 lector (6-12 hours counting preparation time) 4 ushers (24 hours) 2 altar servers (12 hours) 8 to 10 coffee hour volunteers (15 hours including set-up and clean-up) 10 CCD teachers (30 hours including preparation time) This comes to a grand total of over 111 hours of volunteer time just for Sundays! Consider that those hours don't include the time donated by the flower committee, the people who tidy up the pews, the women who launder the altar linens, and the sacristans who ready the altar. With these additional services, there are probably over 125 hours donated during a regular weekend of Masses in season! Why is this a big deal? We tend to take for granted that when we enter the church for Mass on Saturday evening or Sunday morning that we will have a priest to celebrate the liturgy and that he will be assisted, that a collection will be taken, communion will be offered and we can enjoy a cup of coffee and a donut while our kids are at CCD. Most people in the pews are blissfully unaware of the scheduling, the scrambling, the training and preparation that goes on each week to be able to offer four Masses on the weekends. Every member of each ministry team is vital to this process. What is the point? We need YOU to volunteer to be a part of a ministry in our parish. You are qualified! YOU have strengths and talents that are gifts from God; ready to be used in stewardship. If serving on Sunday isn't your thing, then there are many other ministries and organizations that need you. If you are unsure about where you would like to serve or what ministry might be best for your talents, consider reading the book, Living Your Strengths, includes a code that allows you to access this profile.
