2 2 St. Brigid Church First Sunday of Advent Did you know? The Stewardship Festival of Ministries was a wonderful success. The weather gave us sunshine in the midst of the clouds and rain showers. The enthusiasm and creativity of our ministries and organizations was supported by the information they provided about their ministry and organization. Each of us took away something from this event. Some of us even signed up on the spot. Others of us surveyed the possibilities and now step back to consider where God may be calling them. Still others saw what was available and saw what may be missing. God might just be calling them to fill in the gap! Some of our parishioners weren t here to experience the Festival. We need to tell them about it and spread the good news. SOoooo what s next? Some if not all of the following is what s next! 1. The information should be going up on the parish website: for future reference. 2. The ministries and organizations are supposed to report their follow up results with the people who signed up for a particular ministry or organization to Fr. Frank and Parish Council. After all how often have we signed up for something and somehow the ball got dropped at each or both ends? If both of you follow up there will be a successful connection. 3. Those of you who didn t sign up yet, continue your discernment process with the tool given in your bulletin. Additional copies of the tool are available at the entrances to the Church. Remember God doesn t call the qualified, God qualifies the called. 4. If you see that something was missing from the Festival and you believe that we as a parish need to address it bring forth the idea, need, concern with a brief proposal that can be tweaked and or enhanced to Fr. Frank. Such actions have already been taken in the parish in recent months. Let the Holy Spirit work. 5. If you review the Six Needs and Twelve Priorities of our parish found later in this bulletin that tugs at your heart, mind and soul consider reaching out to help address that effort. 6. Continue to pray that we at St. Brigid continue to grow in our efforts to carry out His Mission & Ministry and give thanks to God for the all who by God s grace are doing what they are doing in this Church. On December 12 th Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration! Mass at 5:30 AM 7 AM Mass moves to 7:30 AM! Preparing for our Anniversary Mass Sunday December 5 th 10 AM!! 1. We ask our established parishioners to please park in the Western Ave School Parking Lot entrance on 54 th St. near Western Ave., so our handicapped, clergy, used to be parishioners and guests will have easier access and minimize giving directions and confusion. 2. We are asking all ministries and organizations to turn out and sit together in your usual colors etc. (Women s Ministry in Red, Purple Hats in Purple). Each group should save a seat for a designated banner carrier from your group that will march in the Procession. The banner will be provided. We are asking all who are in the procession to be in line by 9:30 AM. 3. There will be a luncheon afterwards. There will be no fees for this luncheon. We are asking you to make a free will offering in the Collection that Sunday to help defray the costs. We give thanks for God s generous blessings and rejoice that as many as possible can stay and fellowship. 4. We will need people to help clean up. 4 4 St. Brigid Church First Sunday of Advent PARISH NEWS STEWARDSHIP Weekly Collection - (Envelopes, Loose, Building & Maintenance) 11/21-34 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday Average Needed $ 3,721 $ 7,000 Please note that our collections have been significantly less than the Average needed. Thanks to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, who gave us $23k in Together in Mission Funds we were able to pay our bills and cover some of the unpaid bills in the new fiscal year. However we still finished with our $10k deficit. What does that mean? We didn t get a $20k gift from Together in Mission this year. If we continue as we are we will have a $30k shortfall. The economy is slow and there are some without jobs. After meeting with the Finance Council this week, it is clear that we will need to make some significant cuts like everyone from our families to our federal government. What are we to do about it? Increase Income and decrease Expenses? Thus we will have to add to the unemployed by attrition, reduced hours, lay-offs and assistance from volunteers. 1. Please do your best to follow the principles of tithing and give your contribution off the top of your income. 2. Thank you to some volunteers who stepped to help with the operation of the parish. We still need help with facilitating our website 3. We have one parishioner who is looking into getting a van at an auto auction. If you would like to donate funds to help with such a purchase, please contact Fr. Frank. 4. Keep inviting others to join our church. 5. Last but not least, pray, and everyone keep your heads up alert to the blessings God has for us. All we ask is that you do the best you can. St. Brigid Six Parish Needs and Twelve Priorities Our Vision Youth and Young Adult Ministry-As you may note from the Stewardship Festival there is a Young Adult Ministry Group formed and seeking form it s structure and program for both in St. Brigid and in collaboration with other parishes. Pray for it s continued progress. 2. Evangelization of Membership Age Evangelization Committee (Parish Council Evangelization Committee is working on Procedures for welcoming and other parish proposals) & Social Justice Committee Re-Establish Children s Mass-(We have a plan in search of implementation) 3. Stewardship Stewardship Committee & Ways & Means Committee (We have focused on Stewardship of Time Talent and Treasure through an Advent Season, Annual Parish Retreat Day, and Three years of focus on Stewardship each January/February, Parish Council is working on holding a Stewardship Festival in fall of 2010) Commitment to Tithing(This last January we lifted up the principles of Tithing as the basis for contributing to Parish, 2 nd collections, Together in Mission & Josephite Share in the Mission Appeal) & Youth Scholarships (We have received a donation this year and the Education Committee has raised money, we await resolution of appropriate ways of distribution by the Fall Semester)

9 9 St. Brigid Church First Sunday of Advent From the Pastor s Desk 1 st Sunday of Advent- AIDS Sunday Happy New Year in the Church!! Word of God- Light and Vision! Jesus came to bring the light and affirm the Vision of hope for Salvation. He acted on that vision! Bringing light into the darkness of sin and through His entry into human history, His death and resurrection, the vision became a reality. Jesus has a vision for each of us, he wants us to not only be awake and alert to that vision, but to bask in His generous light and grace and act on it. Is that not what happened when the vision of St. Brigid became a reality in 1920? Is that not what happened in 1979 when the Josephites came to St. Brigid? As we look to the first century of faith at St. Brigid in 2020, Is not the vision still valid? Let us give substance to our Voice, Visibility and Vibrant Faith in Jesus Christ in South Los Angeles!!
