We rely on the help of the Holy Spirit. Our secure giving option is accessiblee through our church website: stjudech.org Special Collection this Sunday This Sunday, September 23, a special collection is dedicated for the relief of the people of the state of Kerala, India, who have been devastatedd by the most extreme flash flooding and landslides in nearly a century. According to reports provided by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) which is actively working on site with the relief effort, hundreds of people are dead and about 1,000,000 people have been displaced by the catastrophic flooding. These displaced people are in desperate need of food, clothing, potable water, medicine, and shelter. Those who wish to donate to the relief effort online can go to the diocesan website Kerala Flood Relief. Thank you for your assistance and follow the link to our suffering brothers and sisters devastated by this historic flooding. From the Pastor Last Sunday we heard St. James call us to put our faith into action, this Sunday in the second reading at Mass, he teaches us that we are to seek wisdom: Where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul practice. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for those who cultivate peace. (James 3:14-16) Let us put our faith into action keeping mind to do so with the wisdom from above whichh includes humble service, cultivating peace, being peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity.

4 Office of Faith Formation and Discipleship for Families Marie Scocca-Draghi, PCL Office Beth Thornton, Assistant PCL & Youth Group Coordinator Mission statement: The St. Jude Office of Faith Formation and Discipleship for Families strives to foster a welcoming atmosphere and environment which encourages authentic evangelization of the faith for all people, at every age, and state of life. Vision statement: The St Jude Office of Faith Formation and Discipleship for Families realizes that all endeavors in catechetical ministry must be about evangelization and will consider each encounter an opportunity to build an authentic personal connection with the individual or family in order to effectively share the good news. "..there is no separation or opposition between catechesis and evangelization...they have close links whereby they integrate and complement each other" (Catechesi Tradendae,18) For further details on our programs, please contact the Office for Faith Formation at BLESSING OF ANIMALS OCTOBER 6, 10:00 AM AT ST FRANCIS STATUE BY FATIMA SHRINE ON PARISH GROUNDS OF ST JUDE CHURCH Bring your pet for this special blessing. If it is rainy the blessing will take place in front of entrance to church. This blessing is connected to the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4), who lived from about the year 1281 to the year 1226 dying on October 3. St. Francis befriended and preached to animals. He followed Christ s example of self emptying through prayer, suffering and poverty with joy and love. He took in the great beauty of all God s creation including the many creatures but more intensely showed love for Jesus and the Church especially in reaching out to the poor and suffering. His witness attracted many and helped bring renewal in the Church of his day Join the Choir Music Ministry at St. Jude Church To join the choir or for more information about St. Jude parish choir, contact Bob VanDongen, Director of Music Ministry by texting him at SILVER & GOLD WEDDING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION - Sunday, October 21, 2018 You are cordially invited to celebrate your 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary with the Church of Metuchen. Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for this year s carnival at the parish picnic. The response was overwhelming, and all the children were delighted to have a choice amongst so many wonderful items. Any leftovers will be saved for next year. Remember, before you recycle your kids treasures, ask yourself if it s something you could set aside for our annual carnival. We are so blessed to have such generous, thoughtful parishioners. Knights of Columbus Council I would like to publically thank all my Brother Knights who helped with the Parish Picnic by cutting back the hedges, putting up and taking down very wet tents. setting up and taking down tables & chairs, manning the grills and cooking and helping with many other activities that contributed to the family event for our parish family. Unfortunately, we couldn't control the rain; in spite of that it was a successful event and a good time was had by all! On a separate note, Tom DeMange and George Allaman ran another successful Golf Outing at Shawnee. Those who unfortunately couldn't participate missed a great time. Again, I want to personally THANK my brother Knights for all they do for our parish and the public. Coming up rather rapidly is the Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 13th. You don't want to miss it. Tickets are available after mass on Saturday and Sunday. Respectfully, Roy LaBarbera- Grand Knight
