2 ST. JUDE CHURCH OCTOBER 28, 2018 SOLEMNITY OF ST. JUDE, APOSTLE THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ST. JUDE - PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We the parish family of St. Jude, as members of the Body of Christ proclaim the Good News of Jesus in our worship, words and deeds. Out of love for God and neighbor, we dedicate our time, talents and treasures to the service of our faith community and to those who are in need. ST. JUDE, APOSTLE On the night of the Last Supper, Jude learned that we must encounter the Risen Christ in our heart: The Lord does not appear as a thing. He desires to enter our lives, and therefore his manifestation is a manifestation that implies and presupposes an open heart. Only in this way do we see the Risen One (Benedict XVI, 11 October 2006). Saints Simon and Jude, then, not only offer us a model of Christian unity and exhort us to deepen in this mystery by welcoming Jesus into our lives, they also intercede before God for us, asking that we may see the Risen One with eyes of faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, keep ourselves in the love of God, and wait for the mercy of Jesus Christ unto eternal life (Jude 20-22). OUR BLESSINGS ARE FROM GOD The tithe refers to the 10% of the income God s people return back to God. Many people tithe 5% to the local parish and 5% to other charitable needs like second collections. By our tithing we proclaim our faith that our blessings are from God, and, with confidence and joy, we give a portion of those blessings to support God s work in our church community. This expression of faith, gratitude and love should be prayerful and planned so that it can truly be the first fruits and the proportion that expresses our acknowledgment of Gods gifts. This is a real blessing for the Missions! Please continue to pray for missionaries, and for the people to whom they bring the Good News of Jesus. All Souls Day Envelope Please write the names of your deceased loved ones on the All Souls envelope and place them in the regular collection at Mass, no later than October 29 so that we can place these names on the altar for All Souls Day masses November 2. There are more envelopes available in the vestibule or on the gift table in the back of church. Masses on All Souls Day November 2 at 9:00 AM and 7:30 PM.

3 From the Pastor Happy Feast day of St. Jude! As we celebrate St. Jude, Apostle and patron of our parish we ask for his intercession on behalf of our parish family and the members of our families who are suffering. St. Jude is a special patron for those who are tempted to despair. We celebrate his faithfulness to proclaiming the gospel bearing witness to Christ as a martyr. In the gospel for St. Jude we hear the following: "Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God. When day came, he called his disciples to himself, and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles." (Luke 6:12-13) Jesus spends a whole night in prayer before making choosing his 12 Apostles from among the many disciples who followed him. St. Jude is chosen and is called Judas son of James. Let us always follow the Lord s example before making important decisions by taking time to pray in thanking God and asking for God s blessing upon our decisions. St. Jude pray for us. Remediation expense update The total of remediation expense paid out as of October 23 is $77, What remains is the expense and work for installing a septic tank. This expense amount is not yet known and the work still needs to be completed. "Invest in the Life of St. Jude" Pick-an-Envelope $25,092 has been raised for the parish as of Monday October 22, through our pic-an-envelope fundraser. Thank You to all who have responded. Proceeds go directly to the major expenses of the parish. Thank You Beth Thornton for bringing this idea to St. Jude parish and promoting the fundraiser among our families. Thank Marie Draghi and Effie Martyniuk for the work you have done towards this project. Thank you to all who have given and to all who worked towards making this fundraiser successful. Art and Crafts Group at St. Jude Church We are starting an arts and crafts group to help benefit the various ministriess at our church. Do you enjoy making crafts or are you an artist? WOMEN S LIFE LIVING IN FAITH EVERYDAY Have you ever felt a need to connect with other Catholic women, but weren't sure how to do it? 5 All Souls Memorial Mass Friday, November 2: 7:30 PM St. Jude Church On Friday, November 2, 2018 at the 7:30 PM Mass for All Souls, the parish of St. Jude, will be remembering especially the deceased members of the parish of the past two years, whose names are recorded in the parish, register which will be read aloud during the Prayer of the Faithful. Also if you have a loved one who died recently from outside the parish you are invited also to come and include his or her name to be read during mass. A place will be provided in the vestibule of the Church in advance of the mass for including these names. Everyone is invited to hold a candle for their deceased loved ones during the intercessions. St. Jude Knights of Columbus Council Coat Drive The St Jude Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a clean and gently used, coat drive. The coats will be sent to The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal to benefit the needy in the Newark, NJ area. The box for the coats is in the church vestibule. Christmas Party for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities The 3rd Annual Diocesan Christmas Party for Children and Young Adults with Disabilities will be held on December 15, Due to limited space, this is a ticket only event and pre-registration is required.
