SACRAMENTS Anointing of the Sick: Those wishing to receive the Anointing of the Sick are asked to speak with any of the priests or call the office at Masses for Anointing of the Sick are celebrated throughout the year, and are announced in the bulletin. Baptisms: Infants through 2nd Grade: Parents are asked to attend our Baptism Preparation class on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Sponsors are also invited to attend. You must be registered parishioners for at least two months prior to the baptism. Please call the office at or secretary@olsparish.com for more information and to sign up. Third graders and older: Parents are asked to call our Director of Children s Sacraments, Lauri-Anne, for information at Communion to the Homebound: If you are ill at home and wish to receive the Eucharist, call the office at First Holy Communion and Confirmation: The Diocese of Reno requires a two year preparation for children and teens receiving these Sacraments. Please contact Lauri Anne Reinhart at Marriage: Couples wishing to be married at Snows need to make their initial contact with the parish six months before their wedding date. J B Isaiah 49:1-6 Psalm 139 Acts 13:22-26 Luke 1:57-66, 80 JOHN THE BAPTIST Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense celebration of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often described as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and Christianity. More commonly, John is known as the precursor of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming. Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory (Isaiah 49:3). MINISTRY NEWS NEEDY MINISTRY The Food Pantry will be closed from now to July 31, opening again on August 1. There will be NO FOOD OR CLOTHING DISTRIBUTION OR COLLECTIONS during that time. Please do NOT bring donations to the church or to Sr. Carmen s office. We will resume accepting food and clothing donations August 1. MUSIC MINISTRY Joseph asks: What is your reason for not joining the choir? "I don't know how to sing." Are you sure? Let s get together and. find out. "I've never sung in a choir before." Many in our choirs are first-timers. "I don't know how to read music." Many of our singers don't read music. "I can't be there every week." That's OK. Come when you can. Second Year Confirmation: Parent meeting on Monday, September 17, 7:00 p.m. at the parish center (this include parents of Manogue students, sophomores or older) First Year Confirmation: Parent Meeting on Tuesday, September 18, 7:00 p.m. at the parish center (parents of public school students 9 th grade or older) CRE (also known as catechism or CCD classes) begin the week of September 9 ALL ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS are expected to attend CRE classes every year if they are not in a Catholic school, regardless of the age at which they receive sacraments. They will grow in faith and knowledge, learning with classmates whose families share their same values and beliefs. DEPRESSION AND BIPOLAR SUPPORT ALLIANCE (DBSA) Individuals with a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of depression or bipolar disorder are invited to attend our next DBSA meeting on Tuesday, July 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. 5 Our diocese is privileged to have been chosen by the University of Dallas to serve as one of their Catholic Biblical School sites in the coming year. DEEPEN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE! The University of Dallas in the Diocese of Reno Brochures and registration forms may be downloaded at the diocesan website (renodiocese.org), under the Ministry tab: Or contact Dr. Lauri Anne Reinhart at the diocese, , and ask to have the application form and brochure mailed to you. Registration forms are due by August 15 because we need to plan for the August 25 session (see below) CBS will be offered on Thursday nights, beginning in September, 6-8 PM at three different sites: Our Lady of the Snows Parish Center, Reno St Patrick s, Fallon St Joseph s Elko Annual Cost: $550 per person + books There will be one Saturday session in Reno, August 25, 9:30-12:30. Our teacher, Gene Giuliano from the University of Dallas, will come to Reno to introduce the program to participants and talk about the Bible from the Catholic perspective. (This session will be taped for registrants who cannot make it that day.) This is a four-year program, and participants may attend any or all of the four years. The first two years of the CBS program focus on the biblical books that form the foundation of both the Old and New Testaments. Years Three and Four of the program cover the remaining books of the bible, emphasizing their contexts and principle themes. While starting at the beginning of the four-year cycle is encouraged, a student can join the program at any point.
