3 Saint Paul Lutheran High School will be hosting a Boys basketball grade school camp June 11 th through June 15 th from 8:30-10 am at Weis Gym on the campus of Saint Paul. The camp is open to boys entering 4 th through 8 th grade in the fall of You can pick up a registration form at Saint Paul Lutheran High School s office or online at splhs.org/events. Any questions Monte Pitsch at mpitsch@splhs.org. Soccer Camp SPLHS will be hosting a soccer camp July 9-13 for all youth entering 1 st 8 th grade. The $55 cost includes the camp, a t-shirt, and soccer ball. The 1 st 4 th grade session will be from 8:00 9:30am. The 5 th 8 th grade sessions will be from 9:30 11:30am. Registration forms may be found in the grade school office, church office, and the SPLHS office. You may also register online at sites.google.com/splhs.org/soccercamp. Contact Coach J.T. SAINTS PRIDE All Saint Paul Lutheran High friends, alumni, and families! We will have Work Days Thurs-Sat June on the campus of Saint Paul. Old Testament Lesson Deuteronomy 5:12 15 The people of Israel are commanded by God to observe the Sabbath Day as a day of rest and honor for the God who rescued them from slavery in Egypt. 12 Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Jesus explains that God s command to rest on the Sabbath Day is not some legalistic burden but is meant for humanity s health and benefit. 23 One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. 24 And the Pharisees were saying to him, Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath? 25 And he said to them, Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: 26 how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him? 27 And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath. Prayer of the Church After each petition: P Lord, in Your mercy, C hear our prayer. 4 LWML District Convention Ruby Dean Frerking and Kathy Schnakenberg, delegates, and Alyssa Petty, alternate delegate, will represent St. Paul s Lutheran Women s Missionary League (LWML) Ladies Aids this coming weekend, June 8-10, at the Missouri District LWML biennial convention at Lake Ozark. -- The convention agenda includes mission speaker Rev. Todd Kollbaum, director, LCMS Rural & Small Town Ministry, Concordia; keynote speaker Elaine Bickel, humorist and author; and interest sessions on Apple of His Eye Ministry led by Rev. Robert & Kristi Roegner; A Christian Response to Homosexuality led by Rev. Kristopher Morris; and Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs led by Top Dogs or keepers including Renee Ravanelli and Jill Kusel of St. Paul s of several comfort dogs from across the state. Their dogs, including St. Paul s Jessy, will be present and assist with the interest session. -- The convention theme is He Knows My Name, based on Isaiah 43:1. The LGSH Auxiliary will host its Annual Ice Cream Social on Sunday, June 17, 2 to 4 p.m., in the new LGSH multipurpose room. Homemade desserts, ice cream, and beverages will be served. Young music students of Dr. Linda Kruger will entertain. Tickets may be purchased from auxiliary members for $4.00, or donations may be made at the door. Proceeds will be used to purchase new vertical blinds for the Nursing Home dining room and a photo package so that residents pictures may be displayed outside their doors. The social is free for residents of the Good Shepherd Home. Cemetery Flowers The Cemetery Committee kindly requests that flowers placed on or around headstones for Memorial Day be removed by June 5, All flowers remaining after that date will be disposed of. Missouri s Largest Diaper Shower sponsored by Lutherans for Life of MO Mother s Day (May 13) - Father s Day (June 17). Bring disposable diapers of any size to church (box in narthex) or the church office between Mother s Day and Father s Day as a way to thank your family for giving you life! The number of diapers (not packages) collected will be sent to MO state. Please Contact Kathy Schnakenberg with any questions at Cross Camp Holy Cross Lutheran; Emma, MO will be hosting their first Cross Camp on Thursday, June 14, from 9:00am - 4:00pm. The theme for the day will be Put on the Armor of God - all about houw God will care for you. Hear about how God s word covers you. We will be creating a Boot Camp atmosphere so com in your camo and ready to stretch your skills. Children beginning Grade 1 through Grade 8 are invited to attend. There is no cost for this event and lunch will be provided. Please contact the Holy Cross secretary at to register. Cross Camp #2 will be held July 2, and Cross Camp #3 will be held on August 3. 9

5 Voters Meeting A regular Voters meeting of St. Paul's Lutheran Congregation will be held on Wednesday, June 13, at 7:00pm, in the Church. We hope that you will be able to attend this important meeting. We encourage all members to be involved in the decisions of our church. Copies of the proposed budget can be found in the church narthex and the church office. New Adult Bible Class begins June 10: "Law and Gospel." Pastor Michael will lead a discussion about the two most fundamental teachings in the Bible: Law and Gospel. This course will define both terms, show how Law and Gospel are found in both the Old and New Testaments, discuss the importance of keeping these two teachings distinct, and how both apply to our Christian life and experience. This class meets in the gym at 9:15 am Sundays, June Family Footnotes God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars. I love to take pictures, so this quote of Martin Luther s most certainly rings true to me. I enjoy finding beauty in the simple things that God encircles me with, and I see those things as special blessings in my day from Him. I see God s hand at work each and everyday all around me, in the big things and the little things, if I am willing to look. God shows Himself to us in different ways, but He most certainly blesses us each in a unique way every day. Unfortunately, some of those blessings become a blur as we speed by them in our busy day without taking time to notice or without taking time to listen. I find myself becoming restless, negative, and overwhelmed if I don t take the time to breathe in and concentrate on the things that God has blessed me with. Practice choosing gratitude over grumblings, faith over feelings, and blessings over burdens. It doesn t always come easy because that can be tough when circumstances dictate otherwise. I believe St. Paul had some experience with this when he wrote, Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus I Thessalonians 5: This does not mean plastering a fake smile to our face and saying everything is fine, but I think it does mean to intentionally focus on the blessings and stay connected to our Savior as well as the body of believers. When we worship with other believers, there is power in that. When we receive the Word and Sacrament, there is power in that, too. We believe that in the Lord s Supper our Lord gives to us His true body and blood with the bread and the wine for the forgiveness of our sins. We recognize the charge that St. Paul offers in 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 that those who come to receive the Lord s Supper ought to examine themselves so that they do not eat and drink in an unworthy manner. Therefore, out of concern for those who have not been instructed in the faith or who hold to a different confession, we ask that only members of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations receive the Sacrament. If you would like to learn more about what our congregation teaches, to inquire about becoming a member or have questions about our practice, please speak to one of the pastors. For those who have problems consuming alcohol, you are invited to receive diluted wine from the purple glasses in the center of the tray of individual cups. For those who have dietary restrictions, gluten free wafers are available upon request.
