Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving November 23, :00 p.m. AS WE GATHER It has long been the custom of our people to turn in the fruitful autumn of the year in praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God for His many blessings and mercies to us. These words written by President Woodrow Wilson for Thanksgiving one hundred years ago are just as timely now as they were then. We are a blessed people, and there is so much for which we can turn in praise and thanksgiving to God! As the Lord Jesus sets a Thanksgiving banquet before you in His Word, join with your family to turn and give Him thanks and praise for the saving work He does in your life. Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! (Psalm 118:1). WELCOME PREPARATION CALL TO WORSHIP He Has Made Me Glad TCH214 OPENING SENTENCES Psalm 69:30; 100:4 5 Leader: I will praise the name of God with a song; People: I will magnify Him with thanksgiving. Leader: Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! People: Give thanks to Him; bless His name! Leader: For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, People: and His faithfulness to all generations. WORD PRAYER OF THE EVENING Pastor: Let us pray. Almighty God, Your mercies are new every morning and You graciously provide for all our needs of body and soul. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may acknowledge Your goodness, give thanks for Your benefits, and serve You in willing obedience all our days; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. People: Amen. 1

FIRST READING Psalm 100 (p. 427) (A Psalm for giving thanks.) RESPONSIVE SONG Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart LSB 806 SECOND READING Philippians 4:6 20 (p. 842) (God supplies our every need in Christ Jesus.) CHOIR REFLECTION Spirit of Thanksgiving Adult Choir. GOSPEL Luke 17:11 19 (p.749) (Only one who is healed returns to Jesus in praise.) HYMN Now Thank We All Our God LSB 89Stz. 1, 2 MESSAGE Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving Pastor Tom Acton APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 2

A Prayer of Thanksgiving (by verse and petition) I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. Psalm 34:1 Lord God, we praise You for every good gift in our daily life, but especially for Your love, grace, and mercy in the life, death, and resurrection of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. Psalm 69:30 Heavenly Father, increase songs of praise and thanksgiving from all Your people throughout the world, that we may make known Your glory to all. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 We give thanks to You dear God, especially for this good land and this nation dedicated to the liberty, peace, safety, and freedom of all its citizens. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 Move the hearts of all in government authority to lead in the ways of justice and mercy. I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. 1 Timothy 2:1 For the fruits of Your creation, the just reward of labor, the help we give our neighbor and the world-wide task of sharing Your mercy, we give You thanks. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song Psalm 95:2 Increase our joy and gratitude for the blessings of family and friends that we may live to your glory in our world. Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." Psalm 50: 15 3

Thank You, Lord, also for those things that challenge or even amaze us, opportunities to grow in faith and love toward others. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2 Bless, we pray, all who are in any need, especially among my family, friends and those on my heart now. For Your healing of all our conditions we give You thanks. You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever. Psalm 30:11-12 Above all, give us a generous supply of Your love that our love may never grow weary or weak but move us to serve others in Your name. In the name of Jesus, Amen. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen. Psalm 89:52 OFFERING Holy Manna Adult Choir (Your gifts for our food pantry may be brought to the altar during the collection of tithings/song.) SACRAMENT Pastor: As we approach our Lord and His bounty, let us confess the shallowness of our thankfulness for the daily bread He provides. Forgive us, Lord, for shallow thankfulness, For dull content with warmth and sheltered care, For songs of praise for worldly wealthiness While of Your richer gifts we're unaware: People: Teach us to thank You, Lord, for love and grace, For life and vision, for a purpose clear, For Christ Your Son, and for each human face That shows Your message ever new and near. 4

Pastor: Forgive us, Lord, for selfish thanks and praise, For words that speak at variance with deeds; Forgive our thanks for walking pleasant ways Unmindful of a broken brother's needs: People: Teach us, O Lord, true thankfulness divine, That gives as Christ gave, never counting cost, That knows no barrier of "yours" and "mine," Assured that only what's withheld is lost. Pastor: Forgive us, Lord, for feast that knows not fast, For joy in things that meanwhile starve the soul, For walls and wars that hide Your mercies vast And blur our vision of the Kingdom goal: People: Open our eyes to see Your love's intent, To know with minds and hearts its depth and height; Let thankful days in loving labor spent Reflect the truly Christ-like life and light. "Forgive Us, Lord, for Shallow Thankfulness" # 401; Copyright (c) 1965 Hope Publishing Co., Carol Stream, IL Used by permission. All rights reserved. Pastor: Our Lord's forgiveness is not shallow! He has made all things new in Christ Jesus, opening the doors to an eternal banquet hall, inviting sinners to dine with Him as the gracious host and guest. Therefore, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us: LORD S PRAYER (Matthew 6:9 13) People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. 5

THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Matthew 26:26 28; Mark 14:22 24; Luke 22:19 20; 1 Corinthians 11:23 25 Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. We believe the Bible teaches: 1) Jesus Christ is our only Lord and Savior from all sin, death, and the power of evil; 2) the Risen Christ is really present in the Sacrament and that with the bread and wine we receive His Body and Blood; and 3) we resolve to dedicate our lives to the service of our Lord in His Body, the Church, through worship, sacrificial giving, and thankful living. The center of the individual cup trays contains non-alcoholic wine for those who prefer this substitute. Gluten-free communion wafers are available. Request this wafer from Pastor.
