C Amen. P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Thank you for the prayers for safe travel and productive time. Please continue to keep the lovely people of Baton Rouge in your prayers as many are still living in FEMA trailers as they work to fix their homes. Also, please keep the Trinity Lutheran Church-Baton Rouge family in your prayers as they work tirelessly to serve those in need in the community. We have definitely witnessed how our Lord uses each of our gifts for the greater good. Our God is so GREAT, so STRONG, and so MIGHTY...there is nothing my God cannot do!!! A special thank you to Dan Hoppmann for coordinating efforts to make this trip possible! Jr High Youth This week will be our last youth event as 5/6 & 7/8 from last year. Starting in August everyone will move up! So this week: Monday, July 10 th from 7-9pm we will have 5/6 grade Bible Study in the Youth room. We will be studying GOODNESS & FAITHFULNESS and what that means for each of us. Hope you can join us for fellowship, study of His Word, and a snack (of course!) 5 Immanuel; Higginsville Vacation Bible School The Reformation comes to life with the Reformation Walk where participants move through stations learning about the Reformation, receiving a sticker as they visit each location on their "map." At the Reformation Walk, participants ages 3-12 will travel to stations and learn about Luther's Ninety-Five Theses, create and learn about the meaning behind Luther's seal, play games, sing hymns of praise, and much more! We hope you can join us in celebrating the 500 th Anniversary of the Reformation at our special VBS, The Reformation Walk, on Sunday, July 9, 2017! VBS will be held from 1pm-5pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Higginsville. Please register by June 26 th to receive a t-shirt. Saying Goodbye to Pastor & Lanett Jauss We say farewell to Pastor Jauss and Lanett as they prepare to move to New London, Missouri. His last Sunday to preach here will be on August 6 th. We hope you can join us for his final service and a potluck dinner in the Immanuel Lutheran School gym following worship to thank them for their time and service at Immanuel and to wish them God s blessings on their new chapter in life. Family Footnotes Several of my devotions this week have referenced the apostle Paul. Sometimes in my human reasoning I have to wonder why there were so many obstacles that Paul faced when he was doing work for God s kingdom. One might think that during his great missionary journeys to Rome, Paul would have been spared from the violent storms and the hands of his enemies. Not so. I do believe it is in the struggle that learning takes place. Self-confidence will never be enough when your world turns upside down. My devotion went on to say, The cost of our redemption was everything God had to give, and anything worth having is expensive. Difficult times and places are our schools of faith and character. If we are ever to rise above mere human strength, and experience the power of the life of Christ in our mortal bodies, it will be through the process of conflict We are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angles nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 8: 37, 38. Hold fast to these words of encouragement. (Quote taken from Streams in the Desert) The Lord s Prayer (8:00am) C Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. We believe that in the Lord s Supper our Lord gives to us His true body and blood with the bread and the wine for the forgiveness of our sins. We recognize the charge that St. Paul offers in 1 Corinthians 11:27-28 that those who come to receive the Lord s Supper ought to examine themselves so that they do not eat and drink in an unworthy manner. Therefore, out of concern for those who have not been instructed in the faith or who hold to a different confession, we ask that only members of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations receive the Sacrament. If you would like to learn more about what our congregation teaches, to inquire about becoming a member or have questions about our practice, please speak to one of the pastors.
