Horizons (Y7+8) & Discoverers (Y9+10) meet in the church Welcome Area. At the rear of church is The Haven, a glazed room where parents can take babies or children who are too young to join the children s groups and need some space to wriggle, crawl or cry! There are toys and books in boxes underneath the seats to help keep babies and toddlers entertained. The church hall can be found through the rear doors of the church. In the hall you will find toilets and baby changing facilities (in the disabled toilet). Prayer Night There will be a prayer night at St Giles this week, on Tuesday 22 nd September. The theme will be 'Living Life to the Max' which will help us to explore how we can develop our gifts from God. There are more details further down the bulletin. Visit to Trentham Gardens The Seniors visit for September is a coach trip to Trentham Gardens on Friday 25 th September, leaving the Church car park at 10am prompt and returning to Bridgford for 5.30pm, traffic permitting. The cost will be 15 per person which covers the

3 coach and admission to the gardens. Food will not be provided this time but there are at least 10 places where you can get drinks and lunch, or of course take your own picnic. St Giles The St Giles Women s Day Away will take place on Saturday 10 th October, 10am 4pm. This is open to women of any age and will take place in Tansley, Derbyshire, just outside Matlock (less than an hour s drive). Treat yourself to a day away and enjoy some wonderful food for body and soul. The day will include a lovely sandwich lunch and an afternoon tea. We will have worship, opportunity for prayer and teaching on the theme of Living Our Lives in God s Truth. Tickets are 10 and are available in church on Sundays from Angela Fifer and Eve Harper, or from admin@stgilesparish.com or call Claire on Everyone will make their own way there ready for the10am start. Please let Claire know of any dietary requirements or if you ll need a lift, by Sunday 4 th October. Please come and join us for spiritual and physical refreshment. Harvest Flowers and Church Decoration Please come along and help decorate the church for harvest on Saturday 3 rd October between 9.00am and 12.00pm. There are tasks that suit all ages and abilities - you don t need to come all morning, just a short stint is fine, but earlier in the morning would be great as all preparations need to be made before a wedding in church that afternoon. If you have any greenery and fruit or veg that can be used for decoration, please bring it along, or call Helen Jarvis to arrange collection ( ). If you would like to donate some money towards the flowers please speak to Helen. Thank you. Harvest Appeal Our Harvest All Age service will be held on Sunday 4 th October and, as we do each year, we will be collecting donations for The Friary on Musters Road. Please bring along what you can to the service. Harvest time contributions are vital to the Friary; the donations stock the shelves for the following year. These donations are used to provide nutritious healthy hot lunchtime meals approximately 400 a month have been served since the Friary opened the kitchen in March this year. The donations are also used for snacks served at our Café during drop-in advice sessions and for welfare parcels given to individuals with very little or no income. All donations make a real difference to people s lives. All types of food can be redistributed. Nothing goes to waste. Thank you. Knitting and Sewing Group The next meeting is on Monday 21 st September at 2.00pm in the Church Hall Meeting Room. Bring along some knitting, crochet or sewing - just turn up tea and coffee are provided! Stuart Townend in Nottingham Stuart Townend, known and respected around the world as one of the leading worship songwriters of his generation, will be playing in Nottingham on Friday 9 th

4 October, at 7:30pm at the Albert Hall. Tickets cost and are available from the box office on The concert will be a mixture of worship and performance, with Stuart talking about the songs and how they came to be written. The concert is in aid of the Canaan Trust, a Christian Charity based in Long Eaton that provides safe secure and healthy supported accommodation for homeless males aged Communion Service at Westdale St Giles is leading a service at Westdale Care Home, Melton Road on Tuesday 22 nd September at 11am. Everyone is very welcome to come along and join the worship with the residents please gather any time after 10.30am. For more information please speak to Rachel White. Men s Social This month s meet up will take place on Monday 28 th September. All men are welcome to come along to the Willow Tree pub from 8pm if you would like any more information please speak to Tony Vokes in church. Half Marathon Sponsorship A message from Alex Markland: I am running a half marathon on September 27th with a group of friends to raise money for the Ellen Macarthur Cancer Trust. It is a great charity that gives young people battling cancer the opportunity to go on life changing sailing trips, and a charity which has personal links with a member of the team. Dementia Friends Awareness Information Session As part of the deanery s commitment to offer support for and raise awareness about mental health issues, they will be holding a Dementia Friends awareness information session on Tuesday 6 th October at St Peter's Church in Ruddington. Sue Morris from St Luke's Gamston will be sharing her expertise as an Alzheimer's Society Dementia Friends Champion and will cover what it's like to live with dementia and some guiding principles that can help anyone become more "dementia friendly". We work with a Christian ethos at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to improving outcomes for older adults and particularly those with dementia and the isolated elderly. We are currently looking for community carers to join our team. No experience in care is required as full training will be given, however being a caring, empathetic and practical person is essential, as is being a driver with use of your own vehicle. 5 Quiz Night in aid of The Friary St Luke s Church (Leahurst Road) are holding a quiz night on Saturday 26 th September at 7.30pm to raise funds for The Friary. Teams of up to 6 people may enter - 5 per person (includes a sharing platter & a soft drink). You are welcome to bring your own alcohol to drink. Please contact the St Luke s church office ( ) to reserve tickets you can then pay for them on arrival on the Saturday evening. Are you new to St Giles? Have you been coming to St Giles just for the last year or so? Lee and Sally are hosting a welcome lunch for all those who have fairly recently become part of the St Giles congregation, at the Rectory on Sunday 18 th October after the 10am service. Book Aid Collection Sarah and John McGinley at New Life Baptist Church are the area collectors for Book Aid and regularly take books to them for onward distribution. They would be happy to receive any Christian books and bibles that are no longer required. 6 LIVING LIFE TO THE MAX PRAYER NIGHT Tuesday 22 nd September pm We will be singing and having time to think and pray about what gifts God has given us. We will be celebrating some ways that God has blessed St Giles church through the gifts and talents of the congregation including baking, photography, worship, praying with others and welcoming. Please come for as much of the evening as you are able to manage. It is absolutely fine if you are only able to pop in and out! Here s an outline of the evening: 7.30pm 7.45pm 8.15pm 9pm 9.45pm come along for tea, coffee and cake gather for worship and a prayer led from the front move freely around the church to different areas where there will be prompts to help us explore our gifts and celebrate what God has done in the lives of folk at St Giles. Donations can be left in the box at the back of church or dropped off at The Friary, 46 Musters Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 7PR. Update on Ha Fusi Elizabeth Dunford writes: When we visited Fusi Secondary School in March this year, it was great to see the school enjoying the benefits of having an electricity supply. We were very excited when we saw that the supply was being extended into the village and went to chat to the villagers about it. They had been fortunate to get a grant to connect their homes and were very grateful for the initial supply to the school. However, the one building not being connected was the primary school due to an anomaly in the grant. The Rafiki Thabo Foundation has decided that the primary school deserves (and needs) to be supplied with electricity and is paying for the connection and the extension into the classrooms. The local people are very grateful for the help they are receiving to help their children s education.
