Sunbeams (ages 2½ - 4½) and Junior Church (primary age children) meet in the church hall. Horizons (Y7 + 8) and Discoverers (Y9 + 10) meet in the Welcome Area. There is also a crèche in the hall for younger children. The Church Hall can be found through the rear doors of the church. In the hall you will find toilets and baby changing facilities (in the disabled toilet) At the rear of church is The Haven, a glazed room which can be a great place to take unsettled children or infants. It is connected to our sound system, so you won t miss any of the sermon! Funeral in Church this week The funeral of Mrs Marina Poon will take place at St Giles at 10.00am on Friday. Soup and Rolls at the Rectory After our Easter break our monthly light lunch at the Rectory is back this week - on Wednesday (18 th of May) after mid-week Communion (about 12 midday). Come and enjoy delicious home-made soup and tea or coffee. All welcome.

3 Sidespersons Rotas The new Sidespersons Rotas are available in named envelopes at the back of Church. Caroline Harper Charity Concert Our son John, a saxophonist, will be performing at the Djanogly Recital Hall, Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham University on Saturday 18 th June at 7.30pm. All profits will be for the work of Cruse Bereavement Care in Nottinghamshire. The programme will be wide ranging and will include music by Bach, Debussy, Gershwin and Brubeck, so will suit a range of tastes. Tickets are 10 (conc. 8) so please buy them from Claire or phone Fliers are available at the back of church. Andrew and Claire Barker Thank you! Helen and Sylvia wish to say a very big thank-you to the band of helpers who made such a wonderful job of decorating the church for Easter. Also a big thank you to the congregation for the generous donations which ensured the purchase of so many beautiful flowers. Christian Aid Week th to 21st May It's Christian Aid Week! Please pray for the 32 collectors from St. Giles along with collectors from other churches in West Bridgford and beyond as they deliver and collect the red envelopes this week. There are envelopes at the back of church if your road is not collected from and you would like to give a donation. Please hand these in to either Debbie or Matt Keown. The Quiz Night We are delighted to report that the Quiz raised an amazing 4381, even beating last year's total! We are so grateful to everyone involved in this year's event and for making it such a fun and lucrative evening - we could not have raised so much money without you all! This is the fourth year we have organised the Quiz Night and the format obviously works because we raise so much money. But as well as fundraising, we do want you all to have a great night too and are very open to any constructive feedback you can give us about how we might do things differently next year to compliment the Quiz? Please come and see us if you have any ideas. Easter Balloon Found! It seems the prevailing wind as very different this year, as we have had news of one of our Easter balloons being found near Banbury.

4 Ruddington and District Choral Society Concert RDCS s next concert will be held at St Giles this Saturday, 21 st May starting at 7.30pm. It will be a performance of Mendelssohn s Elijah, conducted by David Woodhouse, and the organ will be played by Philip Millward. Tickets are priced at 8 in advance, or 9 on the door, including refreshments, and can be obtained from: Perkins Hardware, Ruddington; Tall Frog, Melton Rd, West Bridgford; or Choir members ( ). Calling all Gentlemen! The inaugural meeting of a new social group for the men of St. Giles is being held at the Willow Tree on Monday, 23 rd May at 8.00pm. All men are invited to come for a convivial drink and chat, and to tempt you along to the first meeting sandwiches and other light snacks will be provided. It is hoped that this will become a regular monthly meeting and if there is sufficient interest we might occasionally drive out to a country pub during the summer months. If you are interested and would like to know more, please talk to either Marc Gadsby ( ) or Tony Vokes ( ). Royal Wedding Thank You A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Royal Wedding at St. Giles such a lovely event. We're really grateful to all the people who set up and cleared up, who helped serve the refreshments and to Richard for sorting out the technical side. We were really overwhelmed by all the generous donations of decorations, bubbly, and food. And, of course, a special thank you to Will and Kate for making it such a gracious and memorable occasion. May they have a long and happy life together. Executive Personal Assistant to Diocesan Chief Executive and Archdeacons A skilled organiser, good at working with others in a pressurised environment is needed for this challenging and rewarding post within the Church of England in Nottinghamshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for running the office of three senior staff who enjoy working collaboratively. In addition to the responsibilities of a PA the post holder will oversee two other staff and work on certain projects independently. The ability to multi-task and operate with discretion and judgment in sensitive situations will be essential, along with excellent oral and written communication skills. 5 Theatre Trips Our keen theatre-goers have selected three plays - all comedies - for us to enjoy between June and October: Fur Coat and No Knickers by Mike Harding (Thursday, 30 th June at 7.30pm, Theatre Royal). Two families from very different sides of the tracks are brought together with hilarious consequences as they gather for the wedding of Deirdre Ollerenshaw, and her husband-to-be Mark Greenhalgh (son of a wealthy businessman and councillor). Throw in Peter, an unpublished poet and part time anarchist, and Father Malloy, an ecclesiastical drunk, and the scene is set for madness and mayhem in this classic comedy romp. In the adjoining room, Amanda and Victor are enjoying their first moments of wedded bliss. The only problem is Elyot and Amanda used to be married to each other. When they meet again they throw themselves into a love affair without a care for the scandalous consequences. Noël Coward s passionate and witty love story, glittering with razor-sharp dialogue, remains one of the most successful and popular comedies ever written.
