3 FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 16, 2017 From the Desk of Fr. Ron, There is a gentleman, which we at ROTA (Reaching Out 2 Africa) know, who works to secure packages of seeds primarily for food crops. He has a whole method he uses to secure these seeds for free. They are often those packages of seed that have not been sold, are a bit out of date, but still will yield a crop. These he brings to us, to send them on through various missionaries, to different countries where they can be used. Those seeds will do no one any good until they are scattered upon the ground. Left in the package, they are of no use to anyone. This weekend s Biblical lessons speak volumes about that very fact. God through the prophet Isaiah speaks about the effectiveness of His word, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me empty, but shall do what pleases me, achieving the end for which I sent it, (Isaiah 55:11). In the Gospel reading, Jesus speaks through the wisdom of the parable of the sower, who generously spreads seeds and which condition will yield the best results. In both of these lessons, the Word of the Lord, the Seeds need to be scattered and sown somewhere to begin the process. Left in a package, they remain dormant and useless. In our Baptism, with the strengthening of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation, and with our weekly and even daily nourishment of Holy Eucharist seeds of God s love and His holy will have been planted within us. But they need to move from us to others. That requires our cooperation with God s plan. We are not being challenged to set up a platform on street corners and shout the Gospel at the top of our lungs, but we are challenged to share the Good News of Jesus, always through our words and works of charity and justice. We need not be discouraged, if some of the seed we sow falls on deaf ears and hearts. Our job is to sow the seed. God will take care of the rest. May the Spirit of God give you the courage to sow the seeds of the Good News to others. EVENTS IN OUR SISTER PARISHES ST. MARTIN DE PORRES and ST. LAWRENCE PARISHES both are sites for the summer lunch program for children and youth. Though the sponsorship of the Buffalo Public Schools, summer lunches are provided for area children at approved sites. In addition to the lunch program, summer reading books are provided and church members take the time to share reading stories with some of the children. We warmly welcome our neighborhood children and ask that the Lord bless and protect them during these summer months. SECOND COLLECTION This weekend, Sunday, July 16 our second collection will be for Peter s Pence, which provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. The proceeds benefit our brothers and sisters on the margins of society, including victims of war, oppression, and disasters. Call for New Parish Council Members The Council has an opening for two new members with a two-year term starting in September. Registered members of the Parish who are not lay employees or immediate family members of lay employees of the parish are eligible for membership on the Council. Parish Council members are expected to attend monthly Council meetings and to participate as needed in ad hoc workgroups to move the work of the Council forward. The work of the Council over the next few years will be especially important as we continue implementation of the five-year strategic plan, and begin new evangelization efforts. 4 NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY WILLIAMSVILLE, NY HEALING MASS FRIDAY AUGUST 7PM Let's come together and pray for our family, for our community, for one another, especially the sick, those in hospitals, those with cancer, the homebound, those going for surgery, those with special intentions, the travelers, etc. This Mass is for anyone seeking "physical, spiritual healing." Everyone is welcomed and will be prayed for. I am glad to offer this Mass. As you come, may you be blessed. James 5: St. James tells us: "Is anyone sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. Fatima Facts: The second concern that Lucia addressed to our Lady arose from all the skepticism of her family, especially her mother, and from all the ridicule she was receiving from people who did not believe in the apparitions. I would like to ask you to tell us who you are and to work a miracle so that everybody will believe that you are appearing to us. In May, our Lady had told the children she would reveal her identity later on. Now in July, she said, Continue to come here every month. In October, I will tell you who I am and what I want, and I will perform a miracle for all to see and believe. Lucia then requested favors for various people. As time went on, the number of spiritual and materials favors increased. Our Lady told Lucia that it would be necessary for such people to pray the Rosary in order to obtain the graces they were requesting.
