3 DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY APRIL 23, 2017 From the Desk of Fr. Ron, In May of 2000, his holiness Pope John Paul II had added a name to this second Sunday of Easter, titling it Divine Mercy Sunday. This had it origin in the meditations upon the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus by Saint Faustina. Rightly so, the whole Easter Season is a celebration of God so loving the world that He gives to us His only Begotten Son. The example of the Passion, sufferings and freely embraced death of Jesus for our benefit, is truly an act of Mercy towards all of us. The readings of the Sacred Scriptures assigned to this second Sunday are always those that recall the story from the Gospel of John, of what occurred later in the day on Resurrection Sunday. Jesus appeared behind locked doors into the midst of those who gathered together again, after those most tragic events. The biblical lesson recalls how the disciples gathered and were filled with fear about these events and what would also be their fate. It is into this gathering that Jesus appears. Their fear most likely intensified. On one level it is fear of who is this who can breech locked doors to enter their gathering? Recognizing that it is Jesus, brings with it another level of fear and embarrassment. What would He say to those who abandoned Him at His most critical hour? What would He say to Peter who denied Him three times or to the beloved disciple that ran off naked from the road to Calvary, while the soldiers grabbed for his cloak? Instead of any chastisement or of any correction comes the message, Peace be with You. Truly this encounter is one of extreme forgiveness and mercy. This is Mercy Sunday. This is the time when, along with the disciples, we too are to receive the merciful love of our God, if we but accept that the Sacrifice of Jesus was endured for us as well. May we, though very unworthy, receive this generous act of Mercy into our lives and allow it to transform us into people of mercy toward others in our daily encounters. ST. MARTIN DE PORRES will be having a whole Mortgage Burning Weekend of celebration, beginning on Friday, May 19 th as the Holy Name Society conducts evening prayer, a special awards presentation, and a wine & cheese jazz reception. Saturday, May 20 th gathers parishioners and supporters for a basket raffle auction luncheon. On Sunday May 21 st we welcome Bishop Malone to celebrate with us as we burn our seventeen year mortgage and complete our commitment that began at the dedication of our new church building March 11 th Mark your calendars and make plans to join us in celebration. 4 NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY WILLIAMSVILLE, NY HEALING MASS ON FRIDAY MAY 7PM Let's come together and pray for our family, for our community, for one another, especially the sick, those in hospitals, those with cancer, the homebound, those going for surgery, those with special intentions, the travelers, etc. This Service is for anyone seeking "physical, spiritual healing." Everyone is welcomed and will be prayed for. I am glad to offer this Mass. As you come, may you be blessed. James 5: St. James tells us: "Is anyone sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven." Please, invite your family members, friends, relatives, co-workers etc... Remain blessed Fr. Daniel Ogbeifun. 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF FATIMA approaching here at Nativity of the BVM Fatima Facts: ".After the second apparition of the angel the children were very faithful in praying the Pardon Prayer. They were kneeling down with their heads to the ground when the angel appeared a third time in the fall of 2016 with a chalice and a Eucharistic Host. Leaving the chalice and host suspended in the air, he knelt down beside the children to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. He then offered the Eucharist as Holy Communion to the children. Lucia received the consecrated Host, but since they had not yet made their first Holy Communion, Francisco and Jacinta received the Eucharist from the chalice. You are also invited to host the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of our Blessed Mother in your home for one week with the commitment to offer the Rosary daily during the week. Use the sign-up sheet in the Marian chapel on weekdays or in the back on weekends please call, for further information. What a beautiful way to celebrate our Blessed Mother! MARIAN CONSECRATION Drawing from the wisdom of St. Louis de Monfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa, and St. John Paul II, Father Michael Gaitley has compiled 33 Days to Morning Glory, a DVD series. Come, join us as we gather to share this teaching series. We will meet on Monday evenings at 7 PM in the Msgr. For the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, Pope Francis has decided to grant a plenary indulgence opportunity throughout the entire anniversary year, which began Nov. 27, 2016, and will end Nov. 26, THE DIVINE MERCY CELEBRATION Join us today for The Divine Mercy Celebration Sunday, April 23@ 1PM Here at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary "Say unceasingly the Chaplet that I have taught you. Whoever will recite it, they will receive great mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy." (Diary, 687) When this chaplet is said by the bedside of a dying person, divine wrath is placated, unfathomable mercy envelopes the soul, and the very depths of My tender mercy are moved for the sake of the sorrowful Passion Of My Son (Diary, 811) PICKLE BALL FUNDRAISING EVENT The pickle ball fundraising event was a success!
