2 WARWICK WEEKLY WMUMC.ORG Page 2 Growth Opportunities... The Wesleyan Class begins studying 12 lessons from Max Lucado s book titled, James starting today. This study of the Bible will tell us that it is not works that save a Christian, but that works are the mark of a Christian. We invite and welcome anyone who is interested in learning about the life of a Christian from the point of view in the Book of James. It will broaden their understanding of the New Testament. Please join us Sunday mornings in room 21 at 10:10 a.m. Election Night Communion Service: Join us on November 8th at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary for a communion service with time for prayer for our country and its future. 5 WARWICK WEEKLY WMUMC.ORG Page 5 Mission and Serve Opportunities... Care Ministry Offers Opportunity to Serve: Pastor Bert and the WMUMC Care Team has developed a new ministry that will train and guide lay people to spiritually care for people in our church and community. Trained lay volunteers, known as Congregational and Community Care Ministers (C3s), will use their gifts and graces to be a partner in ministry with the clergy and staff. Expanding, but not replacing the Pastors, C3s may do things like make personal visits, telephone persons in need of contact, meet one-on-one with persons in need of a listening ear for prayer and encouragement, and encourage persons in need. C3s are trained to develop active listening skills and theologically appropriate responses, as well as be given Scripture suggestions for various situations. To learn more, come to one of the information sessions: 10/9/16 at 7 and 7:30 pm in room 10 and 11/3/16 at 7:30 pm in room 27. Training will be two Saturdays, one in November and the other in January. Please pray for this ministry and consider how you might be called by God to use your gifts. Please contact Pastor Bert with questions or for more information - pastorbert@wmumc.org. Honduras Medical Mission Team Needs More Members: Five more medical and non-medical folks are needed to complete a Friends of Barnabas Foundation ( member team going to Honduras February 11-19, Prayerfully consider becoming a member of this group, sponsored by Warwick Memorial UMC and The Brandermill Church in Richmond, as it provides medical, dental, and eye care to five mountain villages. God may be calling you to this very mission. The experience is both rewarding and life changing. Youth in High School can go with a parent or guardian. If unable to go, you may help by making a donation towards medical supply costs or a scholarship to enable someone else join the team. Your contributions made out to Warwick Memorial UMC with Honduras on the memo line will be greatly appreciated along with your prayers. For more information or to volunteer, please contact co-leader Carlos Liceaga at or carlosliceaga@cox.net. Hotdogs and Homework - Hands Across the City - Volunteer in Mission! Hotdogs and Homework is being held Mondays from 4:30pm-6pm at the Courthouse Green HOA office (volunteers needed from 4pm to just after 6pm). We serve a light meal (usually hotdogs) and then help the kids with their homework. We have opened the program up to children of all ages who have been active in the summer lunch program. Despite the fact that we are offering homework help at an elementary, middle and high school level, there is no need to be an expert. Please do not be intimidated! If you want to come and just help serve the hotdogs that will be fine, but know that there are a number of younger children who will likely just need help reading. To volunteer, register on our website ( org), call the church office ( ) or Pastor Peggy (pastorpeggy@wmumc.org). Upward Volunteers Needed: Registration Volunteers Needed: Volunteers to help with all the registration dates for evaluations and sizing for basketball players and sizing and orientation for the cheerleaders. Please contact Brenna Watkins at bswusaf@yahoo.com or Help with one registration or help with all, but please help! Volunteer Referree s Needed: Volunteer to referee the games. Games begin in January and we need volunteers to referee. Even if you have no experience, please contact Shaun Kelley to learn more and see how you can help with this wonderful ministry. Contact Shaun at or kelleyshaun@yahoo.com Christmas in September: Our annual Christmas Child campaign will officially begin next Sunday, but it s never too early to start collecting small gifts for our shoeboxes, which will bring happiness to impoverished children around the world. Watch for additional information and materials on upcoming Sundays! Our 2015 Honduras Medical Mission Team The Youth Program Continues to Request Volunteer Support: Over the past 3 years, our youth program has grown from 4 regular youth to sometimes numbers in the 30 s for grades 6 to 12. As many of you know, Dawn Sanderson, who was a huge asset to helping with our middle school youth, was recently deployed with The Air Force. John Evans is doing an excellent job with the help of Steve Crossett and some others. However, helpers are still needed for this year. Please consider where you might help this program that God has grown and is continuing to bless. Invite cards were recently made available from the youth in all Sunday school rooms. Pick up one today or contact John Evans, our youth director, for information or to volunteer at: john_evans@verizon.net. Extra Help Needed for Preschool and Elementary Sunday Programs: What a joy it is to have little ones and elementary children in God s house on Sunday evenings excited and ready to learn and grow in their faith. Our faithful leaders do an excellent job with programming and special events for our children. However, some Sunday evenings, they simply need extra hands for crafts and activities to help in both age groups. If you are interested in helping weekly or just some Sundays, please contact Sharon Ellis, our children s ministry coordinator at: cutygrgal@cox.net. A church with children growing in faith is a treasure. Consider helping cultivate that gift!

6 WARWICK WEEKLY WMUMC.ORG Page 6 Expand your Spirit Through Prayer... Morning Prayer: Silent sunrise sanctuary a dome of shelter for the birth of day. Birds and bugs begin an opposite of lullaby proclaiming life anew. We wake in wonder discerning between dream and daylight a mystery ends, another begins. Sunshine scatters shadows a heathery view melting gray morning mist. Never ceasing, never ending God s mercies new each morning. Amen. Evening Prayer: Dusk to dark, to full moon brightness, blue night sky, speckling of stars and planets, white lights forever patterned, read and known but you knew them first and through them allowed yourself to become known. Thank You! Praise You and Goodnight!
