We have a white rose for a family member of our church members who passed away this year, they are availabe in the Narthex and the Gathering Area. We will also be blessing the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes and UMCOR Health Kits, so please be sure to have them returned to the church on or before next Sunday (see page 2 for all the details on these). Women s Retreat - Fearless Next Saturday, November 11th Our theme for this year, Living Fearlessly, is something that is very relevant to the world we are living in today. Our speakers will be Pastor Gina and Pastor Peggy and our worship leader will be Kerri Hardwick, accompanied by The Lampstand Band. Check-in begins at 9am. Get your tickets now you can buy them after worship in the Gathering area or outside the Sanctuary, or through the week at the church office. New this year, you can sign up and pay using the WMUMC App on your smartphone. The cost is $10 if you buy a ticket in person and $11 if you use the App (to cover the processing fee) either way, this is a great deal! Invite your friends now. Lunch and childcare will be available, please indicate that you require childcare when you get your ticket. Pray for this event and for its leaders as we seek to make this a time of spiritual growth and equipping for women of all ages. Generous Living is the Way of Christ During October we were led through an experience of what it means to live generously. It was a time to evaluate how close we were coming to responding to God s Word. This congregation continues to demonstrate generosity by being a community of believers that is faithful to our mission statement, to make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, and to our membership vows, to faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness We always need to take time to renew our commitments and to evaluate if we are growing spiritually. We are reminded that God expects our best, and we remember that everything that we have belongs to God. When we work towards tithing for Kingdom building, God is pleased. We recognize that gifts include talents that can be used in church programs. Our sacrifice of time used to serve strangers in need locally and globally is generous giving. When we bag food, care for a child, supply Thrive, make flood buckets, health kits, and Christmas boxes, we are present in mission just as those present in Honduras and Red Bird Mission. Yet, we all need to grow in our Discipleship. Our presence in worship and church school is imperative and will develop the confidence necessary to spread the seeds of the Gospel and remind us that God is our priority, as well as our Tower of strength and security. We need to renew a Christian focus. Discipleship is a lifestyle and a continuous challenge; so today, with the Holy Spirit s presence and help, we renew and begin again to grow as God s servants. In Christ, The Generosity Team Closing the Living Generously Study Series Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church s Living Generously study series is coming to a close by inviting pledges for ministris and debet retirement for As an example to the congregation, the members of the Leadership Team and the Generosity Team have already pledged in the following ways. By October 29, 2017, leaders provided 19 pledges for the amount of $118,120 to the Family Life and Operations Fund; and leaders provided 17 pledges for the amount of $78,080 to be payable during 2018 to the Building Fund. Today, November 5 is pledge Sunday for the congregation. Having pledges for 2018 provides Warwick Memorial s Leaders the knowledge they need to prepare plans and make commitments to accomplish the underlying goals to Warwick Memorial s calling, To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World. We thank the leaders for their expressions of Living Generously with their pledges of gifts for Gifts are one of the ways God called us to Live Generously during our recent study series. The others are your time, talents, service, and thoughts and prayers for others here and away from our campus. In the future look for more information about Living Generously in these ways.

2 WARWICK WEEKLY WMUMC.ORG Page 2 Living Generously... Living Generously and Tithing Tithing is an Old Testament concept and often given as the standard for our giving. In the New Testament, giving is more geared to doing Jesus work. The scriptures also reveal how we should give. Here are some examples: We should give voluntarily. 2 Cor. 9:7 says, Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. We should give generously and expectantly. 2 Cor. 9:6 says, Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sow bountifully shall also reap bountifully. We should give sacrificially. Mark 12:41-44 says, And He sat down opposite the treasury, and began observing how the multitude were putting money in the treasury; and many rich people were putting in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amounts to a cent. And calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she had to live on. Our 2017 stewardship theme of Living Generously seems supportive of the concept of tithing. So, how much should we give to the church? Remembering that Christ gave his all for us, perhaps 2 Cor. 9:7 answers that question best of all, Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. Review of the Scriptures we asked you to memorize over the last 5 weeks: Week 1 Luke 10:27 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself. Week 2 Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Week 3 2 Corinthians 8:8-9 This is one way to prove your love is real. You know how full of love and kindness our Lord Jesus Christ was. Though he was very rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich. Week 4 Proverbs 18:10-11 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. The rich think of their wealth as an impregnable defense; they imagine it is a high wall of safety. Week 5 Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. For wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also.

Food donations can be dropped off at the church office any time during the week. The Commission on a Way Forward Update The Commission on a Way Forward has drafted an interim report to share with the Council of Bishops in its task of finding a way forward for The United Methodist Church (UMC) on the extent of LGBTQ inclusion. During the meeting in Nashville, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, members of the Commission agreed on presenting an interim report that emphasizes the need for unity of the UMC, yet recognizing the different theological understandings on LGBTQ identity. We are convinced that with love, we will continue to discern God s vision for our church and listen and see what God wants us to be and to do, said Bishop David Yemba, one of the moderators of the Commission. The three-day meeting at the United Methodist Publishing House featured heartfelt and spirit-filled devotions and a deep desire to share the love of God to all of God s people in the global church. As a commission of the Council of Bishops, the interim report will be shared with the bishops during their meeting at Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, next week. The members expect the bishops to offer feedback that would help the commission in getting to a final report next year in readiness for the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference. About the Commission: The 32-member Commission on a Way Forward was appointed by the Council of Bishops to assist the bishops in their charge from the 2016 General Conference to lead the church forward amid the present impasse related to LGBTQ inclusion and resulting questions about the unity of the church. 6 WARWICK WEEKLY WMUMC.ORG Page 6 Expand your Spirit Through Prayer... Your Guide to the Latest at WMUMC... Household Prayers Morning Thank you, Lord, for waking me up this morning, giving me a new start and another day to live for you. The light of day reminds me of the overwhelming love you give to us such that you even call us your children. Let me live this day in gratitude, showing your love in all that I say and do; for the sake of your son, Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen. Evening God of the heavens, I cannot count the stars you have strewn across the sky, nor can I measure the grace you have poured out upon me. Thank you for the gifts of this day, for they show me your generosity. Thank you for its challenges, for in them I find your wisdom and strength. Bless all those I have met today, and forgive me for the ways I have caused harm. Keep me in your care this night; and if I do not awaken in the morning, receive me into the glorious company of all the saints. In Jesus name. Amen. Sick? Going to Hospital?
