Read more on page Special Lenten Offering Communities such as Agua Zarca are chosen by the Friends of Barnabas (FOB) to be included in the Community Development program based on criteria such as how far they are from a health care facility, lack of safe water or sanitary systems, whether they have been served by other aid organizations, and for security purposes, safe access. All communities must demonstrate a commitment to participating in health education and agree to a formal partnership. They receive general health care from medical teams twice a year, including general checkups, vision and dental care, vitamin distribution, fluoride, antiparasite treatments, and referrals to other FOB services. In exchange for medical treatment received, communities participate in health-related training and educational workshops on nutrition, reproductive health, hygiene, and malaria prevention. A health committee is established in each village to promote the program, and a health volunteer is identified, trained, and equipped to act in this role. See FOB Contd. on Page 5 United Methodist Women Jewelry Sale Fundraiser Following the services next Sunday, March 18th, the UMW will host the jewelry sale to benefit the Virginia Beach Justice Initiative, which works to prevent human trafficking in the Hampton Roads area. Good Friday Drama Performance, March 30th Behold the precious Lamb of God who saves us from our sin, who calls us all, His love to know. In faith, we follow after Him. We follow after Him. Join us March 30th for our annual Good Friday Drama/Choir Performance at 7:30pm in our Celebration Center. Our Living Word Drama Ministry and our Choirs join together to present Followers of the Lamb by Lee Dengler and Susan Naus Dengler. For the followers of Jesus Christ, the spotless Lamb of God, Holy Week is a week like no other in the church year. From the high praise of Palm Sunday, we move through the anguish of the Last Supper, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the cross of Calvary, until we reach the Alleluias of Easter morning. Like those followers of Jesus day, the disciples and other friends of our Lord, we seek, in this, our own day, to trace the footsteps that led our Savior to the culmination of God s eternal plan of salvation. Year after year, the music of the season aids our reflection in this journey of sorrow and love. With this in mind, we present the cantata, Followers of the Lamb. As we experience, through music and the spoken word, the words of Jesus, and the testimony of some of His followers may our hearts be kindled to join in following the Lamb. Invite a friend to join us this Good Friday in the Celebration Center beginning at 7:30pm to hear from His Followers. A nursery will be provided for small children and infants. Lenten Message... Reflection on the Miracle of Faith (Adapted from Made for a Miracle by Mike Slaughter) How will you activate your faith in your journey with Jesus? * Name an area or circumstance within your life where you are struggling with doubt. In what ways are you doubting God s ability or willingness to bring about change or progress? Confess to God your doubt and pray, Lord, I believe; help my unbelief. * Have you developed a life mission statement that guides you in activating faith? You may want to look at Mike Slaughter s book Dare to Dream: Creating a God-sized Mission Statement for Your Life. * In what parts of your life are you sitting back and waiting for God to bring about a miracle? Do you have debt issues? Do you need a job or a new job? Do you have a relationship that is badly in need of repair? Name one proactive step you will take this week to add your initiative to God s divine intervention. * Is risk aversion holding you back from taking the next step into God s preferred future for your life? Think of a risk you should take, identify the worst possible outcome, and ask yourself, Can I survive this worst-case scenario? If the answer is yes, start risking. As the apostle Paul said, I can do all this through him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13)
