1 Thank you for worshipping with us. We hope that you found our service meaningful and inspiring and our people warm and welcoming! We would love to see you again! 22nd Sunday after Pentecost Week of October 16, 2016 OUR MISSION: The mission of Windcrest United Methodist Church is to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. IN THIS ISSUE Here are a few things to know about our church: We believe in grace. We believe in the forgiving grace of God. We also believe in extending grace toward one another. That means that we can be authentic about who we are and the things about which we struggle. In a world that admires getting ahead, we believe Christ is the one who makes us whole. We are all equal in our need for him. There are many places in our church life where you can receive and extend grace - retreats, small groups, worship services, Sunday School classes, mission trips, ministry opportunities. Worship Services: Sundays Traditional 8:15 & 9:30 am Contemporary Praise 11:00 am Wednesdays 6:15 pm BIBLE STUDIES & SMALL GROUPS 9:30 am Quest Class-McClung Bldg, 306 The Inquirers-McClung Bldg, 302 Millennium Miracles (M&M)-McClung Bldg, 303 We love to study. We have several Bible Studies being taught both in the evenings and in the day time. Some are topical: others focus on a particular part of Scripture. You don t need to be a member of our church to join any of our studies. The Searchers-McClung Bldg, 305 We love kids! We feel very strongly about providing for our children and youth everything they need to develop a strong faith and be equipped to face the world. Our children s ministry uses a variety of ways to instill the Word of God into the heart of a child. It dramatically shapes a child's life and it is just plain fun! 11:00 am Meet & Greet/Socktober 11 Pumpkin Patch Mission & Ministry Operation Christmas Child Prayer & Praise Bible Study am Builders Class-McClung Bldg, 301 Good News Bible Study-McClung Bldg, 303 The Procrastinators-McClung Bldg, 305 SENIOR PASTOR S BIBLE STUDY Tuesdays 10:00 am Fellowship Hall There is a place for you. They donated their time and talent to lift the shed and replace the floor. We cannot thank you enough for your support and dedication to your church and preschool community. The key to our success Rests in people like you, Who embody the spirit of greatness By saying, Yes I can, and you can, too! As in previous years, all the proceeds from the Olympiad will go to support the MERCY SHIP MINISTRY. Won't you join us on Sunday, October 30th (from 12:45pm to 4:00pm) for this latest edition of Pumpkin Olympics to be held on our church campus and hosted by captain jack o lantern (Cap n Jack), scourge of the Gourdabbean. Hey, you re staying for the Laity Sunday meal anyway so stay a little longer and have some fun with us. The games will begin promptly at about 12:45pm, give or take, and the closing ceremony is scheduled to begin promptly at about 3:30pm, or so. We ll have lots of games, prizes and great fellowship. And, once again, the fine folks at Painting With A Twist - the Forum will be supporting our efforts to raise money for mercy ships and have set aside a couple of hours on November 6th for us to come paint a picture and have a great time doing it (details to follow.) Many thanks to those of you who made a donation to our Heart of GOLD campaign. Between the church and the preschool I am delighted to say we raised $ to send to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in honor of our friend River Laurence. Your donation will be used to fund pediatric cancer research. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for making this campaign a success Linda Wilcoxen Director 14\October 16, \ October 16, 2016

We provide emergency assistance to individuals and their families in our community in the form of prayer, food, a Wesley nurse, some utility assistance and the listening ear who is part of the Body of Christ. For more information contact the church office. Every 2nd Thursday of the month WUMC Neighbors Helping Neighbors provides worship, breakfast, assistance with other needs and distributes food voucher for the following Thursday. 7 Playing for the Wrong Goal Kalee was determined to collect as many tokens as she possibly could. She loved the feel of the tokens in her hands and the thrill it gave her to have yet another one. The entire game, she strategized all she could to get more tokens. Little did she dream the surprise awaiting her at the end of the game. You see, the goal of the game was not to collect as many tokens as possible. While Kalee had succeeded at her goal, she d totally missed the point of the game. All her careful planning and work ended up being in vain. She d been playing for the wrong goal. ***** But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1 Timothy 1:5 (NASB) Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14 (NASB) For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you? And the king will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. Do you remember the parable of the sheep and goat? The sheep acted charitably, giving food, drink and clothing to the needy. The goats showed no charity. Windcrest UMC members Teddy Behrens and Beverly Cunningham have issued a Sheep Challenge to everyone here at WUMC. They have volunteered to oversee the small Neighbors Helping Neighbors food pantry that is housed here at the church. In an effort to keep the pantry sufficiently stocked, they are asking for the following donations each month. First Sunday Peanut Butter/Jelly Second Sunday Canned Soup and/or Saltines Third Sunday Pasta Sauces Fourth Sunday Canned Vegetables Fifth Sunday Beans/Rice -playing-with-the-wrong-goal *We are in great need of reusable grocery bags If you feel led to help out, please consider these donations when you are out doing your grocery shopping. They will have a table or cart in the Gathering Place each Sunday to collect the items and stock the shelves of the pantry. Thank you so much for your help and support of our Neighbors Helping Neighbors ministry. To see video please go to or the Church Facebook. 10\October 16, \ October 16, 2016
