1 Directory 2014 Wesley United Methodist Church

2 Care Ministries Hospital Visitation Team Meal Care Visit Wesley Members during hospital stays in coordination with Pastors. Prepare and/or deliver meals to families during times of illness, birth, or crisis. 1-2 Hours 1-2 Hours Prayer Pray at home weekly for Wesley staff, ministries and congregational requests. Weekly Rosebud Delivery Deliver rosebuds to those with new babies. Wesley Cares Provide outreach to Wesley s homebound through visits, phone calls, cards, s. Monthly/As needed Bus Drive church bus to transport seniors from local retirement communities to and from morning worship & special events. Quarterly 4 Hours College Connection Send care packages to our college students. Quarterly 2 Hours Prayer Shawl Knitters and crocheters interested in sharing our prayerfully created handicrafts with others during times of celebration and need. Monthly Emergency Response Team To be the first responder to any emergency that occurs at the church during worship Mornings, Special Activities 9:15-10:30 or 10:30-12:00 Missions Action Ministries of Augusta: Bike Refurbish and distribute used bicycles to children in need. Late Fall 2-4 Hours Action Ministries of Augusta: White Christmas Christmas support for local families and children in need. Christmas Season 1-4 Hours Brittany s Friends Volunteers meet together for a variety of 1 st & 3 rd sewing and mission-oriented projects. Monday Help plan, shop for and host birthday Caring Candles parties for children at St. Luke UMC every Once a. Columbia County Cares Assist local food bank. FaithCare Clinic FaithCare Clinic, Inc. provides free care for minor illnesses and ongoing primary care, professional counseling and some prescription drug assistance. Volunteers needed include physicians, nurses, physician assistants, medical staff, and professionally trained pastoral counselors. Every other Tuesday night 2-4 Hours Foreign Mission Team Travel to and be in ministry in places like Honduras and Africa, etc. TBA

3 Missions (Continued) Good Neighbor Ministries Work alongside St. Luke UMC assisting with various supportive activities for the children of the Harrisburg community in downtown Augusta Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) IHN is a ministry for homeless families with children. Wesley is part of the Augusta network of area churches of various denominations. Each church hosts a several families three times per year, and volunteers are needed to set up, clean up, are meals, serve as overnight and activity hosts, and grocery shop. Quarterly 2-8 Hours per week of hosting Master s Table Soup Kitchen Soup kitchen ministry to local homeless. Duties include aring lunch, manning serving line and clean-up following meal. Third Thurs. every other 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (approx.) Mechanics The ministry ares donated cars to give to the needy. This ongoing ministry has donated over 300 cars. Volunteers should like to work on cars as a hobby and want to help those in need. 4-6 Hours per case Men In Mission Men In Mission seeks to provide fellowship and mission for men of all ages. This group takes on local mission projects of all varieties. Breakfast and devotional every Tuesday morning at 7 AM. Breakfast Tuesday mornings, projects as needed Pumpkin Patch Assist with the sale of pumpkins & flowers. October Relief and Recovery (Short term mission trips) Local and national mission trips primarily focusing on construction projects can be overnight or day jobs. Volunteers can choose projects to participate in as their schedules permit. 3-5 s per year Long weekends or one day jobs plus training United Methodist Women (UMW) UMW support missions around the world including the United States. Projects include children's homes, community centers, hospitals, schools, universities, and missionaries. Five groups meet September through May. Involvement by group and can include an extensive missionary education program involving mission study, reading program, and group programs. Circle activities by Circle Wesley Yard Sale Wesley s semi-annual yard sales raise thousands of dollars for mission and outreach. Volunteers are needed to collect items, set up, work during the sale, and break down afterwards. Spring and Fall 6+ Hours

Wesley Window Mailing Team Label and mail our newsletter, The Wesley Window, on Wednesdays Weekly Boy Scout Ministries Wesley Chartered Boy Scouts of America Pack, Troup, and Crew Cub Scouts - Pack 615 is for boys in the first through fifth grades or 7-10 years of age. Boy Scouts Troop 615 is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light award or who are beyond 5 th grade. Venture Crew - Crew 615 is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eight grade) through 20 years of age. according to activity Year round program with participation that according to activity

Some knowledge of music reading necessary. of Service Weekly rehearsals, Fall - Spring Wind and String Ensemble Instrumentalists are a selected piece of music on their own and come together for a 30 minute group rehearsal the week before they play in worship. Once every 4-6 weeks 1-4 Hours Lighting Team Coordinate lighting for programming. Projection Team Contemporary Run projection images for lyrics and visuals in Contemporary Worship, 9:30 and 11:05. 4 Hours per Lighting 9:30 and 11:05 Contemporary Run lights for contemporary services. Training provided Once a 3-4 hours Seasonal Choir Members Sing with choir for special seasonal programs only. If you are a member of regular Adult Celebration Choir, please do not check seasonal choir member. Seasonal One hour weekly for practice Sound 8:30 Traditional, 9:30 or 11:00 Contemporary and Traditional Provide technical support and run sound board for worship and events; sometimes needed for special weekly events as available. Training provided. Monthly 2-4 Hours Musical Set Up and Break Down The before and immediately following the musicals help is needed to set up and break down the stage. Twice a year 8:30 Service Accompanists Prepare a prelude, offertory, and postlude of your choice and play the service music. Once a Faith Notes Vocal ensemble that meets weekly for rehearsals and provides music for the ly communion at Brandon Wilde and occasionally for Traditional Worship. Weekly 30 Minutes Youth Praise Band Assistants Altar Artists Help youth praise band rehearse and leading of worship. Altar Artists Create 3 dimensional art to be displayed in Traditional Worship. Artists will be provided themes and asked to use their creativity to design visual imagery to coordinate with sermon topics or seasons. Wednesday and evenings 2 3 designs per year Advent Decorator Decorate church for Advent One week prior to Advent Advent Reader Christmas Eve Reader Holy Family Assistant Read selected scripture and light Advent candle one morning during Advent Read selected scripture at a Christmas Eve sesrvice Individual willing to help Holy Family dress and enter worship at a Christmas Eve service Once during worship Once during worship Once prior to worship

7 Children s Ministries School Teachers Teaching, co-teaching and helper positions available on s at 9:30am service. Weekly, or on rotating basis plus Small Group Leaders A leader who will hang out and build relationships with a group of 8-10 kids and help them understand the message they heard in large group and help apply it to their lives through guided discussions. Opportunities on s at 11:00am or on Wednesday nights. Weekly, or on rotating basis plus Visitor Welcome Desk Assist with greeting visitors and making them feel welcomed as well as assisting with Kidcheck Once a 30 min Substitutes Fill in for School teachers or Small Group Leaders Morning or Wed. Night Sheriffs Patrol our hall and help make it a safe and secure area. or Wednesday nights Weekly or rotating Mid-week Help are the material for Wed. night Weekly or rotating Nursery Opportunities for someone to share God s love by rocking babies or reading to toddlers at any service. Rotating basis Samaritan s Purse - Operation Christmas Child Help plan, organize and advertise shoebox ministry that sends toys and toiletries for needy children around the world. Every Fall Seasonal Events Volunteer Help produce seasonal children s events such as Pumpkin Palooza Fall Festival, and Easter Extravaganza. One weekend, seasonally Vacation Bible School Volunteer Teachers, Storytellers, Tour Guides, Music Leaders, Recreation, Kitchen and Youth Coordinators needed for Wesley s large VBS summer ministry. One week during June by position Tech Team Behind the scenes in the tech booth running sound, computer or lights. We will train you. Weekly or rotating basis Children s Choir Rehearsal Assistant Help with children s choir on Wednesday nights. No singing involved. 1-2 times per Large Group Communicators/Drama Team If you are a person who is good in front of large groups of kids or has some drama background we have some opportunities for weekly and seasonal characters and communicators. Handy Man Build sets and props, make repairs and do odd jobs for the youth ministry. Special Events To help monitor large crowds during special events.
