BULLETIN DEADLINE Friday by 4:00pm Bulletin Editor: lorizk@stmatthewwausau.org CYCLE C NOVEMBER 6, nd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME "Those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage." Jesus' response to the Sadducees regarding their question about the resurrection of the dead actually raises another question for us: what about marriage in heaven? We understand marriage to be "until death do us part," but what exactly becomes of this special relationship in the afterlife? Pope Francis gave a homily on this Gospel passage in which he discussed the mysterious transformation that will take place for those who enter into the joy of heaven. The Holy Father tells us, Jesus explains that "life after death does not have the same parameters as our earthly life. Eternal life is another life, in another dimension where, among other things, there will be no marriage... The life that God prepares for us is not a mere embellishment of the present one: it surpasses our imagination, for God continually amazes us with his love and mercy" (Angelus, November 10, 2013). An interesting interpretation of this comes from Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, the Preacher of the Papal Household, who said "marriage does not come to a complete end at death but is transfigured" (Homily, November 10, 2006). Catholic author Stephen Ray described it this way in a letter to his mother who was grieving the loss of her husband: "We cannot understand our new spiritual bodies and heavenly existence any more than a caterpillar can comprehend what it will be like to be a butterfly. We cannot anticipate how personal relationships will flower in glory any more than [an] acorn can anticipate standing 50 feet tall." Whatever it will be, we can trust it will be wonderful! The location for the retreat has changed from the cafeteria to the Angelorum. Call Joy (715) for additional information. Dead Theologians Society (DTS) is off to a great start. Over 30 teens have joined us to hear about Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Padre Pio. Please came and join us at Resurrection on Sunday evenings! Our next meeting is on Sunday, November 13th, 6:00-8:00pm. The evening begins with a great meal provided by the parents. We then proceed downstairs into the candle lit room. Additional meeting dates for 2016 are November 27th and December 11th. All High School Teens are welcome. We've had a busy summer. You may be surprised to learn that much of our help has gone to households right in the area around St. Matt's parish. Many households are struggling to balance their budgets, have had their "Food Share" entitlements cut, and are in great need of paper & personal products (which cannot be purchased with Food Share cards. The cash & gift cards have enabled us to purchase fresh meat, fish, fruit & vegetables. Our other sponsors have also helped out with bread/bakery, gas, and some household items. The "Family Life Committee's" decision was one of the best things they could have done in this "Year of Mercy". THANK YOU, "FAMILY LIFE COMMITTEE", all parishioners from St. Matt's & other parishes, and individuals at large for making our mission a lot easier. Nothing hurts the heart more than when we have to say, "Sorry, but we just don't have the resources to help you." Our biggest project of the year, "THANKSGIVING BASKETS" is right around the corner. NOVEMBER SHARE SUNDAY NOVEMBER 12/13 November means Thanksgiving and the Circle of Joy Thanksgiving baskets!! Last year the Circle of Joy helped 25 households enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving and also received enough food, personal products and cleaning supplies to take care of their needs until Christmas. Your donations on Share Sunday will enable the Circle of Joy to once again fill those Thanksgiving baskets. All donations are greatly appreciated; of high priority for the baskets is toilet paper, Kleenex, laundry detergent, shampoo, toothpaste and tooth brushes and body lotion. Family Life Committee Newman Catholic Schools 29 th annual Winter Wonderland Benefit Auction will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Stoney Creek Inn. You are invited to celebrate this annual extravaganza where we gather to celebrate and support NCS schools.
