2 Relationship with GOD More than Just SUNDAY This Respect Life Month, let s end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood October is Respect Life Month, and I am moved to share both good news and a challenge. The good news is that the HHS contraceptive mandate has been radically revised in favor of religious liberty. This is the mandate that, beginning more than six years ago as part of Obamacare, sought to force everyone from nuns to business owners to pay for contraceptives, including Plan B abortion-inducing drugs. With this new ruling by the Department of Health and Human Services, any nonprofit or private employer will be able to decide, for religious or moral reasons, not to cover contraceptives in its insurance plan. This good news comes on the heels of passage by the House of Representatives of a bill that would ban abortion after 20 weeks because of the pain felt by the unborn child at that stage of development. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act faces a much tougher battle in the Senate, but President Trump has promised to sign it into law if it reaches his desk. By the time this information appears in this bulletin, the fate of the bill may be decided. If it has not passed, please use the contact information to voice your support for this legislation. But there is another challenge that is arguably even more dramatic. That is the ending of taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, which has been receiving half a billion dollars of our money each year. This was a central campaign promise of Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress, but so far it has not advanced. Congress needs to feel the urgency of this step. It would have not only a practical, financial effect, but arguably an even greater symbolic one. We would be saying to Planned Parenthood and to each other that we are not willing to see another dime of our money going to an organization whose main business is the killing of unborn children. Again, please use the contact information on the back of this insert to make your voice heard. To assist you, here are key points from pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List ( 1. Planned Parenthood and other abortion businesses do not deserve taxpayer funding. They should divest themselves of abortion or self-fund. 2. Undercover videos show that Planned Parenthood has been engaged in unethical and possibly illegal medical and financial practices connected to the trafficking of unborn children s organs. 3. Planned Parenthood affiliates have been referred to the FBI and the Attorney General for criminal investigation by the Senate Judiciary Committee and the House Select Panel on Infant Lives; Planned Parenthood is unworthy of receiving Taxpayer money. 4. Planned Parenthood affiliates have been identified by Auditors and investigators as the source of at least $12.8 million in waste, abuse, and potentially fraudulent Medicaid overbilling and penalties. 5. Taxpayer funding accounts for 43% of Planned Parenthood s overall revenue. 6. Planned Parenthood performs over 300,000 abortions annually. 7. There are approximately 20 times more community health centers (13,540) nationwide than there are Planned Parenthood centers (about 700) Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) alone served 24.3 million individuals last year, nearly 10 times more Individuals than were served by Planned Parenthood centers (2.5 million). Contact your Senators and Representative about Defunding Planned Parenthood Here is a sample message for a letter (most effective), phone call (second most effective) or . I, the undersigned, call on you to advance legislation ending taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize America s largest abortion business with their tax dollars. Abortion is not healthcare. I call for these funds to instead be directed to life-affirming community health centers. May Jesus be their constant guide Prayers and Condolences Our prayers and sympathy go to the family and friends of: Richard Braatz, husband of Elizbeth Betty Braatz, who died Sunday, September 29th. Andrew Jagodzinski, uncle of Ted Stencil, who died Thursday, October 5th. May they Rest in Peace TREASURE SALE - THANK-YOU THANK-YOU THANK-YOU-- EVERYONE These words have so much meaning to them but yet sound so simple. The Treasure Sale was a huge success this year and we broke all records. Gross revenue this year will be around $72,000 and we will net around $61,000. This is a 16% increase from Absolutely Amazing!!!! There are still a couple more bills to pay and then the final amounts will be published. This could have never happened without all the help from everyone. We had many people step up for the first time this year, and we needed every one of you to pull this off. The hot weather made it a little rough for us, but we pulled it off. Thank-you for being so patient with me. It was a year of much learning for me with very few free hours in my day. But we did it!!!!!! A very special thanks to Phil Menzner and Art Flashinski for donating the use of the semi trailers. Another BIG thank you to the Gajewski Family for the use of the camper for the overnight security. --Kathy Miilu, Treasure Sale Chair We want to thank Fred Mueller Buick, GMC, Mazda for their Hurricane relief by accepting a trailer load & a half of leftover clothing from the Treasure Sale to be taken to Houston, Texas for Hurricane Harvey relief. Without this effort we did not find a place that would accept the leftover clothing. This allowed St. Matthew s Parish to participate in the Hurricane Relief effort. Thank you for sponsoring the truck to go to Houston. 5
