3 SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS All classes are underway. A total of 36 children are registered. Average attendance is each week. Let s aim for 100% attendance! $55 was received in memory of Pani Magdaline Salley. $40 was received in memory of + Dolores Brudnak. Eternal Memory! Thanks to all who gave for the annual Sunday School collection this year. A total of $646 was received. MANY THANKS! A fall outing to Weakland Farms is planned for Saturday, October 20 th from 11 AM to 1 PM. Sunday School children are free, while adults or other children s price is $8.00. Lunch is included. Information has been distributed to children. Replies must be returned by October 19 th. YOUTH OUTING The youth from area Orthodox parishes will have an outing to the Challenge Ropes Course at the Antiochian Village on Sunday, October 21 st at 2 PM. Cost is only $10 per person. This news has been distributed at Sunday School. The program is for children 12 and over. There is also a required medical waiver form to be filled out for each participant. Please see Louise Brudnak or Nancy Kobal for this form. You can also contact Fr. Miles Zdinak if you have any further questions EDUCATIONAL CENTER NEWS Thanks to all who contributed to help defray the costs of the new chairs. Total donated was $2, Below is listed those who generously helped out with the project. A second project has been completed. The outside around the building has been repainted brown, and sofit and facia has been repaired. Also, new curtains have been added to the inside windows. A roof repair is underway. With the last heavy rain, ceiling tiles have falled inside the Sunday School rooms. Repairs to the edges of the roof around all of the building will be done. HELP! Help is needed for a clean-up day on Friday, October 19 th. Men and women are asked to help clean, hang pictures and help beautify the building inside. Come at 9 AM to help out even if you can stay for a few hours. A pork chop dinner is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, November 4 th, 11 AM till sold out. Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 and under. Donations of cakes from our parishioners will be greatly appreciated. Sunday School children are treated FREE. Anyone else joining the Sunday Schookl, the charge is $8 (child or adult). Included is a lunch of a hot dog, drink and french fries. 5 THANK YOU from Saturday s Kitchen Board Dear Friends: Saturday s Kitchen wants to thank everyone who contributed to and supported our Christmas in July campaign. We ve had overwhelming support this year with many of you contributing more than once. We also extend a special thank you to George and Sara (Polacek) Mihalaki and their entire family for their very generous contributions. Thanks to everyone s generosity, our Cathedral raised $1,415! We also thank everyone who helped solicit funds at the Galleria Mall. Many of you solicited several times and covered for late cancellations. Thanks to all your efforts, we received $4,480 at the Galleria Tree! We also thank everyone who stuffed, stamped and addressed oer 1,200 envelopes for local businesses and professionals. Altogether, we raised over $21,000 and funds are still being received. We extend a special thank you to Fr. Frank Miloro for supporting our love trees over the last 6 years, and for extending the use of the auditorium and chancery when needed. Father is our greatest advocate, and we thank him for all his support and many kindnesses. Despite our success, the need is still overwhelming! There are 25 food pantries in Johnstown and the Greater Johnstown area. These pantries serve over 3,000 families each month, with attendance up fro 20% to 31%! It costs St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank over $26,000 every six weeks to supply these pantries. Food costs at the Family Kitchen (wholesale) was increased from $200 to $300 per day. Because of reduction in government funding, many Pantries are unable to purchase turkeys or ham for their patrons during the upcoming holidays. Many have contacted me personally to inform us that only through our Christmas in July disbursements (your donations!) they are now able to do so. Through your generosity we are able to assist 19 of the 25 Pantries (all 11 in the immediate area and the largest ones in the surrounding areas). We will also be able to help the St.Vincent de Paul Food Bank, the Salvation Army, and both the weekend and weekday meals at the Family Kitchen. So you see, together we are making a difference! Again, we extend a most heartfelt thank you for all your love, compassion and generosity. May God bless all of you dearly.
