2 October 2011 Musings... By Pastor Joe With our folks heading off to Peru soon, I am reminded of Jim Elliot and four others who went into the Amazon section of Peru to translate the Bible into the Aucas now called Waodani Tribe s language. Five men were killed. Several of their wives later went and lived among the tribe to translate the Bible. Steve Saint, the son of one of the slain men, grew up among the Waodani s and learned to love the very people who had taken his father s life. Steve said in a recent interview regarding is father s death, Bad things don t come from God, but sometimes they seem bad. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church. Most people don t want to give God liberty to use their lives that way, because we call it tragic. Most think that it s okay to go with God s program as long as it fits their program. But I finally decided that I wanted God to write the story, because I know that it will come out best in the end that way. As a foot note most of the Waodani Tribe later became followers of Jesus. What seems like tragic to us in triumphant to God. How willing are we to let God use us, and under what conditions? OCTOBER SERMON SERIES: HAVING THE STOMACH FOR THE KINGDOM October 2nd: Having the Stomach for the Kingdom Part 1 Psalm 34:8 Isaiah 55:1,2 Luke 14:15-24 October 9th: Having the Stomach for the Kingdom Part 2 SUNDAY SCHOOL By Susan Fry We have had an exciting start to our Fall Children s Sunday School. Our goal was to set up teams of four teachers for each age group, which means each teacher teaches one Sunday per month and then they are able to enjoy Worship three Sundays of the month. This also gives the children continuity in teachers so they get to know each teacher and are comfortable leaving their parents and going to Sunday School with a teacher they know. We are using Gospel Light curriculum this Fall. Watch for the papers that your children bring home every week so that you can continue to discuss the lessons the children have learned at home. Next month s In Touch will give you a synopsis of what each age group will be studying in the Fall Quarter. I d like to introduce our team of teachers in each classroom. A Big thank you to each of them! In our Preschool class, Jan Spencer, Melissa Hartman, Sherry Hildebrand and Holly Ellsworth have teamed up. For Ages 6-8 years, the teachers are, Melissa Hale, Kathy Bauman, Jen Huizinga, and Sheila Giffen. In our Age 9-11 class, Holly Badke and Missy Coman have volunteered to teach. However, we are short of teachers in this group and are looking for two more volunteers. Paula Bramble has agreed to continue in this group until we get a full set of four volunteers but she has been teaching many years and deserves some time off. If you would be willing to join this team, please contact Susan Fry at By mid-november each child and / or church member has the opportunity to participate in a mission called Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan s Purse. We are going to ask each child and any member of his or her family or the church family that would also like to participate to create a shoebox of gifts that will go to children in underprivileged countries. Samaritan s Purse says it better than I can. Here is a quote from their website. Operation Christmas Child is a unique project of Samaritan s Purse that brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes, It provides an opportunity for people of all ages to be involved in a simple but hands-on project that has the power to transform children s lives. For now, start saving your shoe boxes and more information will be coming home with your children from Sunday School in the next couple of weeks as to how to create the shoebox and what you can include. YOUNG AT HEARTS By Joey Stillinger For many years, the Young at Hearts Committee has enjoyed serving luncheons for those members and friends of Trinity who are young at heart. It has been fun for us and we hope for all of you as well. Now, due to a shrinking committee and shrinking attendance, we have decided it is time to combine Young at Hearts with the Second Wind group. They usually meet every other month on the second Thursday of the month at noon for a program and a luncheon catered by Raedean's. The cost is They will be meeting on Thursday, October 13th. We hope to see you there! Page 3

4 TRINITY TREASURES MOMS GROUP October 2011 By Annette Slaybaugh Fall arrives at Trinity Treasures with great anticipation. Our enrollment is strong, and the teachers have wonderful learning programs in place for the children. We enter the new school year with some changes and improvements that are a reflection of both parent & advisory board input, and IdahoSTARS programming requirements. In an effort to provide a more secure environment a reflective hall mirror has been installed near the front desk that allows the person sitting there to have a better view of the hallways. Trinity Treasures staff will begin wearing a Trinity Treasures shirt that clearly identifies them at a staff member in an effort to make the staff easily identifiable to all parents and visitors. Also there will be an increased presence at the front desk in the morning and late afternoon. We are planning to install a large sign at the outside entrance of Trinity Treasures to clearly identify it as the childcare & school entrance. We hope this will help TPC visitors by directing them to the church entrance rather than using the childcare/preschool entrance. Staff training will begin in September that is funded by our IdahoSTARS grant. This High Scope Training is a valuable 20 hour training program that covers everything from classroom issues to parent/teacher interaction. We are extremely fortunate that all our teachers and assistant teachers will be participating in this training. Additionally, parent/teacher conferences will begin later this fall with a follow up in late spring. We will continue to keep parents updated with classroom and center information through our quarterly Trinity Treasures Newsletter. As our Trinity Treasures program continues to grow and develop, and we welcome new and returning families this school year, we want to thank our church family for all the support we have received over the years. The young lives we touch with our Christian based program is an important ministry. Our TT motto of Loving One Another, Learning Together, and Sharing the Love of Christ acknowledges that we are all a work in progress making progress. This truly is a wonderful outreach program that TPC can be proud of. MISSION NEWS Trinity s annual food drive to support the Idaho Food Bank has begun! You ll notice that there are food barrels both in the church commons area and by the entrance to Trinity Treasures. This helps the food bank provide food to the less fortunate members of our community during the holidays. There are more needy families than ever before in the Treasure Valley. IFB provides emergency food more than 119,000 times a month. Of those assisted by IFB network partners 26% are children, 54% adults, and 20% seniors & 206,433 families. You can help them by donating non-perishable food or canned items such as: soup, stew, canned meats, chili, tomato sauce, canned evaporated milk, non fat dry milk, peanut butter & jams. Starches such as cereals, oatmeal, rice, potatoes and pasta are helpful too. Items specific to the holidays such as canned pumpkin, yams or stuffing are good as well. They also would like desserts such as boxed cake or brownie mixes. The food bank will not accept jars of baby food due to its strict requirements about the seals on the jars. You may also make a monetary donation with a check made out the Trinity with Food Bank written in the notation line. Thank you for your willingness to help those in need this holiday season. By Melissa Hartman MOMS GROUP: The next MOMS group meeting will be held Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 5-7 p.m.. We will be coming together for a festive Mexican dinner, fellowship and a Halloween themed craft. There will also be crafts for children. If you are a mother, please join us. Nursery care is available. Please contact Sheila Giffen at with any questions. Also, please join us for a pre-service bake sale on Sunday, October 2, Money raised from this sale will help support the MOMS group for the upcoming year. Please stop by and try some of our delicious home made offerings! Page 4

5 FUSED YOUTH GROUP October 2011 By Jesse Fadel On September 9th, 80 plus students from Fused youth met at Wahooz Fun Zone for an all-night event! We joined other students from all over for this fun night sponsored by the Treasure Valley LaunchPads (a Christian release-time class ministry). We rode go karts, played mini golf, did bumper boats, laser tag, and had our fill of pizza until 1am. After Wahooz closed we drove the girls back to Eastwind and the boys spent the night at Trinity. In the morning the boys prepared a meal for the girls at Trinity and we had a devotion time before sending everyone home. Fall is officially here and we are fully into the swing of busy fall schedules. Football, dances, homework, & many other activities are now part of the youth's lives again. It's easy to get busy and forget about taking time for our faith but the fall presents incredible opportunities for ministry, faith, & outreach. So far this month we've seen an average Wednesday night attendance of 60+ students and it's exciting to see kids bringing their friends. After our Wahooz overnighter we had a worship night and a prayer night committing this semester to the Lord. We get together for games, pizza, and worship then Jr. High and Sr. High students separate to discuss Biblical topics in smaller groups. In the midst of business and homework our faith is still the most significant part of who we are and I'm thankful to see so many kids engaging their friends and making time for God on Wednesday nights at Fused. I pray that God continues to use us to reach out to this community and to grow deep in relationship with Him and each other. We've got several activities in store for the fall including a canned-food drive and a rake-up-boise service project. Check out the Fused youth calendar and the new Trinity youth web page. Youth Group will meet on Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Eastwind. Mark you calendars for these upcoming events: YOUTH CALENDAR OF EVENTS Friday, October 7th at 7pm Waiting Kind (free Christian Faith Center. We'll meet at 6pm and drive out together.
