4 PAGE 4 First Sunday of Advent FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT "Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. Today we begin the season of Advent. It is the shortest Advent season of all, with only twenty-two days. This is because the last week is only one day. Regardless of the length of this Advent, the liturgical readings prepare us to receive the full spirit of the season. Generally, whenever we hear the word Advent we automatically think about a time of waiting. However, today s readings highlight the meanings of being alert and watching. Being alert and watching for the sign of God s presence in our life. Being alerting and watching for the ways in which God wishes to act as the potter of the clay of our lives. In the Gospel Jesus said that the master could show up at any hour, "Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. The message is to pay more attention to what is happening, no matter what time of the day, whether in the morning, evening, or midnight. However, how can we be watchful and be alert with all of the commercial activities during the Christmas season? The message also reminds us that we are not simply getting into the commercial Christmas season, but also entering into a season of transformation with our God. In Mark s Gospel, Jesus invites us to be vigilant to the unexpected appearances of God in our lives. In his book The Joy of the Gospel, Pope Francis tells us the same thing. That it is time for us to distinguish the spirit of the age so that we can increase the good in the world and prevent evil tendencies. In addition to the frenzy of the Christmas consumerism, we are bombarded with so many distractions at different levels: world catastrophes, political turmoil, violence, illnesses, personal losses, work and family pressure, etc. These situations cloud our minds and hearts, and make it very challenging for us to live our Catholic life as "Be watchful! Be alert! This is true, as a Jesuit priest described in his book The Phenomenon of Man about the relation between the human circumstance and the spiritual life as: We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience. Our society surely makes it tough for us to feel like a spiritual being, to unleash our spiritual gifts. How do we overcome this challenge? Let us look further in this week s readings for the answers. In the first reading, Isaiah invites us to join him in crying, to recognize our own running away from God. The prophet calls us to take responsibility for which we are as a people of God and the Church, to admit the ways in which we are wandering far from the way of God, and to ask for God s grace and an awareness of God s presence in our life. Likewise, in today s Psalm we sang Lord, make us return to you. This indicates that humanity repeatedly turns away from God but never God from humanity. The words watch and watchful occurring four times in today s Gospel indicates to us that Jesus wants to let us know that serious discipleship should be a focal point of our entire life. Anyone of us who wants to observe the signs of God s presence in our lives is invited to imitate parents who foster ongoing awareness of their children. Parents and those who care for the weak and elderly do not have to always cherish the person they are caring for. However, they are called to keep eat least one ear constantly open for any call that demands a response. Therefore, during the shortest Advent season of this year let us do just that. Let us take time to block out as much earthly distractions as we possibly can. Then let us be attentive, open and release our spiritual being, spiritual gifts. So that we can share them and consequently bring Jesus Christ more closely and fully into our lives, to the places where we work, live, play and worship. Only then there will be space for God s grace to enter. Only then we will Be watchful! Be alert! And be ready to welcome the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Primer Domingo de Adviento " Estén preparados y vigilando, porque no saben cuándo llegará ese momento"! Hoy comenzamos la temporada de Adviento. Es la temporada de Adviento más corta de todas, con solo veintidós días. Esto se debe a que la última semana es solo un día. Independientemente de la duración de este Adviento, las lecturas litúrgicas nos preparan para recibir el espíritu completo de la temporada. Generalmente, cada vez que escuchamos la palabra Adviento automáticamente pensamos en "un tiempo de espera". Sin embargo, las lecturas de hoy resaltan los significados de estar preparados y vigilantes. Estar alerta y atento a las señales de la presencia de Dios en nuestra vida. Ser alerta y observar las formas en que Dios desea actuar como el alfarero de la arcilla de nuestras vidas. En el Evangelio, Jesús dijo que el maestro podía aparecer a cualquier hora, " Estén preparados y vigilando, porque no saben cuándo llegará ese momento"! El mensaje es prestar más atención a lo que está sucediendo, sin importar la hora del día, ya sea por la mañana, por la noche o a la medianoche. Sin embargo, cómo podemos "estar preparados" y "estar vigilantes" con todo el consumismo que rodea la temporada navideña? El mensaje también nos recuerda que no estamos simplemente metiéndonos en el comercialismo de la temporada de Navidad, sino que también entramos 3 DECIEMBRE 2017 PAGE 7 en la temporada de transformación con nuestro Dios. En el Evangelio de Marcos, Jesús nos invita a estar atentos a las inesperadas apariciones de Dios en nuestras vidas. En su libro La Alegría del Evangelio, el Papa Francisco nos dice lo mismo. Que es hora de que distingamos el espíritu de la época para que podamos aumentar el bien en el mundo y prevenir las malas tendencias. Además del frenesí del consumismo navideño, nos bombardean con tantas distracciones en diferentes niveles: catástrofes mundiales, confusión política, violencia, enfermedades, pérdidas personales, presión laboral y familiar, etc. Estas situaciones nublan nuestras mentes y corazones. Nos hacen muy difícil vivir nuestras vidas católicas mientras estamos atentos y alerta. Esto es cierto, como un sacerdote jesuita describió en su libro El fenómeno del hombre acerca de la relación entre las circunstancias humanas y la vida espiritual como que: "No somos seres humanos que tenemos una experiencia espiritual; somos seres espirituales que tenemos una experiencia humana." Nuestra sociedad seguramente nos dificulta sentirnos como un ser espiritual, desatar nuestros dones espirituales. Cómo superamos este desafío? Veamos más en las lecturas de esta semana para las respuestas. En la primera lectura, Isaías nos invita a unirnos a él en el llanto para reconocer que nos estamos escapando de Dios. El profeta nos llama a asumir la responsabilidad como pueblo de Dios y la Iglesia. Se nos insta a admitir las formas en que nos alejamos de Dios. Además, estamos invitados a pedir la gracia de Dios y la conciencia de su presencia en nuestra vida. Del mismo modo, en el salmo de hoy cantamos "Señor, haznos volver a ti". Esto indica que la humanidad se aleja repetidamente de Dios, pero nunca Dios de la humanidad. Las palabras "vigilar" o "vigilantes" ocurren cuatro veces en el Evangelio de hoy, lo que nos indica que Jesús quiere hacernos saber que un discipulado serio debería ser un punto focal de toda nuestra vida. Cualquiera de nosotros que desee observar los signos de la presencia de Dios en nuestras vidas está invitado a imitar a los padres que fomentan la conciencia continua de sus hijos. Los padres y aquellos que se preocupan por los débiles y los ancianos no siempre deben valorar a la persona que están cuidando. Sin embargo, están llamados a mantener al menos un oído abierto para cualquier llamada que requiera una respuesta. Por lo tanto, durante la temporada de Adviento más corta de este año, hagámoslo. Tomemos el tiempo para bloquear tantas distracciones terrenales como podamos. Entonces, seamos atentos, abramos y liberemos nuestro ser espiritual y nuestros dones. Entonces, podemos compartirlos y consecuentemente traer a Jesucristo más de cerca y completamente en nuestras vidas, a los lugares donde trabajamos, vivimos, jugamos y adoramos. Solo entonces habrá espacio para que entre la gracia de Dios. Solo entonces estaremos " preparados y vigilantes" para recibir el regreso de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. EL ÁRBOL DE OBSEQUIOS Ayude a hacer las Navidades un poco más felices para los menos afortunados en nuestra comunidad al elegir patrocinar a una familia o un niño. Hágales saber que no han sido olvidados y comparta con ellos el amor de Jesucristo. Para hacerlo, por favor tome una etiqueta del árbol de obsequios. En esta etiqueta encontrará un niño o una familia de 2 o más niños. Le pedimos que proporcione al menos un regalo nuevo por niño y, si es posible, alimentos para la familia. Por favor, traiga sus NUEVOS obsequios sin envolver y comida con esta etiqueta al centro parroquial antes del 10 de diciembre de Gracias por ayudar a los necesitados a tener una Navidad más feliz. El árbol se encuentra en la Iglesia. CELEBRACION DE NUESTRA SENORA DE GUADALUPE La celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe será el 12 de diciembre. Todos son bienvenidos. Las Mañanitas empiezan a las 4:30 AM y la misa a las 5:00 AM. Todos están invitados al gimnasio para disfrutar chocolate, café y pan dulce y escuchar música de Mariachi, después de la misa. Otra misa será ofrecida a las 7 PM en la iglesia. Después de la misa Habrá una recepción en el gimnasio.

Các bài đọc phụng vụ chuẩn bị chúng ta đón nhận trọn vẹn tinh thần của mùa này cho dù trong thời gian ngắn. Thường thì mỗi khi chúng ta nghe đến Mùa Vọng, chúng ta nghĩ ngay đến thời gian chờ đợi. Tuy nhiên, các bài đọc hôm nay nhấn mạnh đến những ý nghĩa của việc canh chừng và tỉnh thức. Tỉnh thức và canh chừng để nhận ra dấu chỉ sự hiện diện của Thiên Chúa trong đời. Tỉnh thức và canh chừng trong những cách Thiên Chúa mong muốn chúng ta làm với tư cách là thợ gốm của cuộc đời ta. Trong bài Phúc Âm Chúa Giêsu nói sự xuất hiện vào bất kỳ lúc nào, Hãy canh chừng! Hãy tỉnh thức! Các con không biết được giờ nào sẽ đến. Sứ điệp này chú ý nhiều đến điều sẽ đến, bất cứ lúc nào trong ngày, cho dù buổi sáng, buổi tối, hay nửa đêm. Nhưng, chúng ta canh chừng thế nào, và tỉnh thức với những sinh họat quảng cáo trong mùa Giáng Sinh chung quanh ta? Sứ điệp nhắc nhở ta rằng chúng ta không chỉ tham dự vào những quảng cáo Giáng Sinh, nhưng cũng hãy bước vào mùa biến đổi với Thiên Chúa. Trong Phúc Âm thánh Marcô, Chúa Giêsu mời gọi chúng ta hãy tỉnh thức đến những sự xuất hiện bất ngờ của Thiên Chúa trong đời ta. Trong cuốn sách Niềm Vui Tin Mừng, Đức Giáo Hòang Phanxicô nói với chúng ta giống như vậy. Đây là thời giờ cho chúng ta phân biệt tinh thần của thời đại để chúng ta phát triển điều tốt trong thế giới và ngăn ngừa khuynh hướng làm điều dữ. Thêm vào sự cuốn hút của tinh thần tiêu thụ Giáng Sinh, chúng ta bị đổ đầy với những phân tâm từ nhiều mức độ: thiên tai thế giới, khủng hỏang chính trị, bạo hành, đau bệnh, thiệt hại cá nhân, công ăn việc làm và những áp lực gia đình, v.v. Những biến cố này có những cách thế làm mờ tối tâm trí và trái tim của ta, gây nên nhiều thử thách đối với lối sống của người Công Giáo là, canh chừng và tỉnh thức! Đúng như một linh mục Dòng Tên diễn tả trong cuốn sách Hiện tượng của Con Người trong liên hệ của nhân lọai và đời sống tâm linh như sau: Chúng ta không phải là con người có kinh nghiệm tâm linh; chúng ta là con người tâm linh có những kinh nghiệm con người. Xã hội đã tạo ra khó khăn cho chúng ta cảm nghiệm là một con người tâm linh, tháo bỏ những ơn tâm linh của chúng ta. Làm sao chúng ta thắng vượt được những thử thách này? Hãy đọc kỹ những bài đọc của tuần này tìm câu trả lời. Trong bài đọc thứ nhất, Tiên Tri Isaiah mời gọi chúng ta liên kết với ngày trong khóc than, nhìn nhận con đường sai trái của mình đi xa rời Thiên Chúa. Vị tiên tri kêu gọi Sinh Họat Cộng Đòan chúng ta có tinh thần trách nhiệm với tư cách là dân Chúa và thành phần của Giáo Hội, nhìn nhận con đường chúng ta đang đi xa Chúa, và xin ơn Chúa ý thức sự hiện diện của Chúa trong đời ta. Cũng vậy, trong Thánh Vịnh hôm nay chúng ta hát, Lạy Chúa, xin dẫn chúng con trở về với Chúa. Điều này chứng tỏ rằng nhận lọai tiếp tục xa rời Thiên Chúa và Thiên Chúa thì không xa rời nhân lọai. Những chữ canh chừng và tỉnh thức được nhắc đến 4 lần trong bài Phúc Âm nói cho chúng ta thấy rằng Chúa Giêsu muốn ta biết rằng tinh thần môn đệ đích thực phải là tâm điểm của đời chúng ta. Bất cứ ai muốn quan sát dấu chỉ sự hiện diện của Chúa trong đời được mời gọi bắt chước cha mẹ là những người luôn tỉnh thức canh chừng con cái. Cha mẹ và những người săn sóc người già yếu không phải lúc nào cũng quí hóa những người họ săn sóc. Tuy nhiên, họ được mời gọi phải để tai thường xuyên khi họ được nhờ giúp đỡ. Vì thế, trong Mùa Vọng ngắn nhất năm nay, chúng ta hãy làm như thế. Xin dành thời gian gạt ra ngòai càng nhiều những bận rộn thế gian càng tốt. Rồi hãy để ý, mở tâm hồn và tâm linh, những ơn thánh tinh thần, để chúng ta có thể chia sẻ chúng và kết quả là chúng ta đưa Chúa Giêsu Kitô đến gần và đầy tràn trong đời ta, đến những nơi ta làm việc, sống, giải trí, và thờ phượng. Chỉ khi đó sẽ có chỗ dành cho Thiên Chúa ngự đến. Chỉ khi đó chúng ta sẽ, Canh chừng! và tỉnh thức! Và hãy sẵn sàng đón mừng sự trở lại của Chúa Giêsu Kitô. Anh chị em nhớ đi tham dự cấm phòng hai tối thứ Ba và thứ Tư mùng 5 và mùng 6 sắp tới với Cha Vũ Thế Tòan, và Nguyễn Văn Khải từ 7-9 giờ tối. Xin cha mẹ đi với các em tham dự cấm phòng bằng tiếng Anh với Cha Angelos Sebastian vào tối thứ Hai mùng 4 tháng 12 từ 7-9 giờ tối. Anh chị em tham dự buổi hòa nhạc Giáng Sinh ngày thứ Sáu 15 tháng 12, từ 7-9 giờ tối. Trong ngày này Lễ chiều sẽ cử hành tại Hội Trường. Thánh Lễ Buộc-Lễ Đức Mẹ Vô Nhiễm tại Cộng Đòan vào lúc 5:30 pm thứ Năm mùng 7/12, thứ Sáu ngày mùng 8/12 lúc 12 trưa, 4 chiều và 5:30 chiều. Hai ngày hòa giải mùa Vọng thứ Tư 13 tháng 12, và thứ Năm 21 tháng 12 lúc 7 giờ tối; ngày thứ Sáu 22 tháng 12 có giải tội cho người đi làm ca đêm từ giờ sáng. Các linh mục giải tội sau các Lễ sáng ngày thứ Bảy trong Mùa Vọng từ 8:30 sáng 9:30 sáng và buổi chiều thứ Bảy từ 3:00 chiều -4:30 chiều.
