1 ONNYCAMLAD PARISHES Rev Norman Morris, Rector of Wentnor with Ratlinghope, Norbury, Myndtown, Lydham, More & Snead, & Priest in charge of Churchstoke & Hyssington & Rural Dean David Jelves, Reader Captain Jon Price Fresh Expressions Community Evangelist Canon Julia Francis, Reader The Rector writes. What a summer we are passing through! After all the amazing Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which turned out to be far larger than the Golden Jubilee, and the Football European Championships (at the time of writing outcomes there not known!), we now have the Olympics and Para-Olympics to look forward to! There has already been great excitement and huge turn-outs for the passage of the Olympic torch throughout the country! The revival of the modern Olympics is a remarkable story, much of it thanks to Shropshire s own Dr Brookes over at Much Wenlock so we trust all will go well and the World benefits from this great coming together at London! The modern Olympics take in a huge range of sports and games but in the end comes down to the dedication and commitment of individual men and women to their chosen pursuit, whether it s a solo or team effort. Somewhere along the line, usually when one is quite young, there s a decision to go forward and be committed, come what may, to work for Olympic success! The actual outcome may well be uncertain but most competitors, looking back, usually see their lives achieving purpose, direction and meaning as a result. I think we can apply this lesson more widely and I would say that God has a plan for each one of us. Is God calling you?..well he may not be calling everyone to be a Vicar, though we certainly could do with a few younger ones working in rural parishes! Rather we all have a ministry to fulfill that may sound rather grand but it means that in all kinds of ways we have a calling to serve others, yes in our families but also more widely. It may also be the case that we have the ability and gifts to go further and serve the church and community in some more specific way. Speak Lord for thy servant heareth said the child Samuel to the voice of God calling him at the Shrine at Shiloh we all could do with listening to God as He may have plans for us!
