PEDER S This final week of Lent leads us on to the gathering of Jesus and his disciples for their last supper on Maundy Thursday and the observance of his crucifixion on Good Friday before we gather to celebrate the joy of his resurrection on Easter Sunday. We hope you ll make time to be a part of this journey that is at the core of our Christian faith. Invite a friend to worship with you as we open our hearts and doors during this holy season! Passion Sunday, March 29 ONE WORSHIP SERVICE at 9:00 am Join us for this service that leads us into Holy Week, with waving of palm branches and the Passion According to Mark. Maundy Thursday, April 2 Agape Meal & Worship at 6:30 pm Join us as we gather in the Fellowship Hall around tables for a light supper - and the Lord s Supper - and hear readings from John s gospel of this night that ended with Jesus arrest. Please sign-up on the table outside the Fellowship Hall to let us know you ll be attending this new service. Good Friday, April 3 Worship at 7:00 pm A tenebrae service of scripture reading, song and prayer that marks the solemnity of this holy day. Please join us for this time of worship and reflection that is central to our Christian story. Easter Sunday, April 5 Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed! Worship at 9:00 and 10:45 am Join us for a joyous Festival Worship with Holy Communion with music by St Peder s Choir and friends as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ in the midst of our beautiful Easter garden created in our nave. Easter breakfast served by the St Peder s Youth at 10:00 am Plan to share in our annual Easter breakfast of scrambled eggs and sausages hosted by our youth and supported by your free-will offerings. This event is a fund raiser for the youth going to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in July. 2 THE BEST FISH EVER! ST. PEDER S ANNUAL CODFISH GETS RAVE REVIEWS WITH HELP OF NEWLY REMODELED KITCHEN Thanks to everyone who worked to get the kitchen up and running. The new layout was efficient and spacious. Thanks to those of you who did all the cleaning and unpacking before the cooking crew came in on Friday. Thanks to all the cooks, bakers, errand runners, table setter uppers, cheese slicers, servers, dishwashers, cashiers, and all those who enjoyed the fish, meatballs, and delicious mustard gravy! An especially warm thank you to Jim Austin for all the work remodeling the kitchen! Tusind Tak! Sue Nielsen Thanks to the Codfish Dinner coordinators and crew for a wonderful dinner this year! Several guests remarked that it was the best fish ever! The kitchen got its first workout and seemed to serve our needs well. This annual dinner is a significant outreach event for St Peder s. More than half the guests are not members of St Peder s - and every year we get new people from the neighborhood. Thank you to all who help make this ministry happen! It s an opportunity for us to serve our neighbor by offering good food, good company, and good conversation with friends old and GROWNUPS AND KOINONIA POTLUCK LUNCH TO CELEBRATE SPRING! Invite a friend, bring a favorite dish to share, and let s gather again (finally!) for some fine food and fellowship at the April 17 Grownups and Koinonia Luncheon. We ll eat at noon. Don t miss this opportunity to share a meal with friends old and new and enjoy one another s company on a spring day. new for one evening in March. 3 Celebrate the new life of Easter with us this Spring! Join us for worship, faith formation or one of many festivities A Festive Sunday, April 19 Join us for worship (one service at 9:00 a.m.) this Sunday as the St Peder s Choir, directed by Anika Kildegaard, presents Gabriel Faure s Requiem. This musical offering promises a meaningful worship experience! (There is no 10:30 worship on April 19.) After worship, we ll gather as usual in the Fellowship Hall for coffee and conversation. And, we ll also take some time for the Blessing of the Kitchen as we formally give thanks for our newly remodeled kitchen. This will be an opportunity to offer a prayer of blessing and express our gratitude to everyone who has contributed to making the renovation a reality. Plan to be a part of this festive occasion on April 19! It s a great way to celebrate new life in this season of Easter! Another 17 Quilts for Lutheran World Relief The St Peder s Quilters have been busy these past few months! On March 22, we blessed 17 new quilts before they were sent on their way to various parts of the world via the ministry of Lutheran World Relief. Thanks to our Quilters for their dedication and service that allows us to provide needed warmth and shelter to folks across the globe. If you d like to participate in preparing the quilts, you re welcome to join their work day on the first and third Wednesday mornings each month. Can t come all the time? Come when you can and share in this opportunity to do God s work with our hands! Gather Bible Study: Overcoming Doubt Jesus' death could have caused a prolonged time of great doubt for his followers. But Jesus resurrection cemented their commitment, energized by the coming of the Holy Spirit. Session 8: Inspired by the Risen Lord Theme verse: "For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 WHAT: GATHER BIBLE STUDY WHEN: APRIL 21, 2015 WHERE: CHURCH LIBRARY TIME: 9:30-11:00 3

4 It s time to think about CSA again! Is it time to restock your supply of Peace Coffee? For the third year, St Peder s will serve as a drop site for a wonderful CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). This year s produce will come from Twin Lakes CSA, a new Amish farming community near Mora, MN. Freshly harvested produce will be delivered on Wednesdays throughout the summer and fall - you can choose what share you d like to receive. Brochures with information and sign-up forms are available on the table outside the Fellowship Hall. If you have questions, please talk with Pastor J ulie. Signup soon so you don t miss out! The seasonal variety of Pollinator Blend is now available. If you enjoyed the coffee at the Codfish Dinner, pick up a bag of the Guatemalan Coffee. Check out the table in Don t forget! Heartfelt thanks for children processing with palms on Palm Sunday, the Julie Ebbesen and Scott Wilson family for coordinating the Easter Egg hunt. for Thrivent representatives Hans Nestingen and David Rasmussen for explaining enrolling in Thrivent Action Teams, for youth and parents setting up, prepping and cooking, and cleaning with coordinator, Kristi Lathi-Johnson and all those who enjoyed Easter breakfast at St. Peder s to St. Peder s members for the street locations of Little Free Libraries near St. Peder s. to Nicky Taylor, Nursery Coordinator for changing the bulletin boards and Ron and Kathy Moir for the newly refurbished table for our nursery children. 5

Did you know: Restrictions against religion in largely secular Cuba were eased in the 1990s. I hope whoever receives one of our quilts is warmed and comforted by that quilt, and also feels the joy we had in making and sending him/her a quilt. Now we begin the fun and joy of starting on another batch of quilts. COME AND JOIN US. St. Peder's member, Jim Peterson, recently repaired a table that has been a part of St. Peders for many years, both at this location and at our former location at 32nd St. and 35th Ave. The table is built in the "Crafstman Style" and a label under the table top identified it as having been built in San Francisco in Many long-time members have enjoyed seeing and using this piece of furniture. for many years. The top of the table was broken, making the table unusable, so Jim offered to take the table home and put a new top on it. It is back at St. Peders, and it can now be put to good use again. Thank you, Jim, for doing a great repair job! 7
