2 WELCOME GUESTS AND MEMBERS TO OUR WORSHIP SERVICE May 1, 2016 Sixth Sunday of Easter 10:00 a.m. THE GATHERING GATHERING MUSIC Sweet Hour of Prayer Spirit A`Peal Bradbury/arr. Tucker GREETING AND WELCOME Pastor Jeff Hansen We are glad you re here! If you re a first time guest, welcome! We d appreciate an opportunity to get to know you. If you ve been here before, welcome back! First time at Spirit of Hope or returning would you provide us with some contact information using the attendance book as it comes by? Please join us for coffee and conversation after worship. We look forward to connecting with you. Once again, welcome! TIME OF SINGING Holy Spirit Rain Down Chorus Holy Spirit rain down, Rain down O Comforter and Friend How we need Your touch again Holy Spirit rain down, Rain down Let Your power fall, Let Your voice be heard Come and change our hearts As we stand on Your Word Holy Spirit rain down No eye has seen, no ear has heard No mind can know, what God has in store So open up heaven, open it wide Over Your church, and over our lives. Seek Ye First Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, And all these things shall be added unto you, Allelu, alleluia. Ask, and it shall be given unto you. Seek, and ye shall find. Knock, and the door shall be opened unto you, Allelu, alleluia. CCLI License No *CALL TO WORSHIP An asterisk * indicates to please stand, as able, to the Glory of God Light print for the leader and bold print for the congregation Seek first the kingdom of God really? And where would that be? Should we be doing that seeking? Is it somewhere off in the distance? In the future maybe? In another realm altogether? Or is it much closer, so close in fact, That it feels like our own heartbeat?
3 *HYMN OF PRAISE We, Thy People, Praise Thee No. 67 *OPENING PRAYER We, your people, praise you, God and why?... Good God, do you need that from us? Is your ego so fragile that you need others to prop you up? Does our praising you make you more favorably disposed towards us, So you will do nice things? Give us what we ask? Deliver the goodies? Is that why we offer our praise, and this prayer to manipulate you? Or is it really more about us? Is there something in us that needs to be opened up, Offered, extended, let go, in the hope that you will grab hold, And swing us around and around until we are disoriented, re-oriented? Dizzy with the energy of eternity? Seeing everything new? Ourselves included! And is such a thing even possible in Christ?! Amen! Amen. THE WORD SHARING A WORD OF PEACE AND GREETING CHOIR ANTHEM Cast Thy Burden upon the Lord arr. Fred Bock SCRIPTURE READINGS John 14:23-29 p. 133 Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5 p. 315 For the word of God in scripture, within, among, and beyond us, Thanks be to God! MESSAGE Seeing taking living it all in Pastor Jeff Hansen Key Verse: And I heard a loud voice saying, See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them he will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more for the first things have passed away. Revelation 21:3-4 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE RESPONSE *OFFERING THANKS AT THE TABLE p. 18 Please remain standing for the first part of the thanksgiving prayer. *OFFERING OUR THANKS IN PRAYER This gathering at your table, God, is the first taste of the new world and way and life! So, what if we were to live as though, from now on, everything is part of your endless feast of love, everyone a welcome guest at your banquet of grace? Why don t we try it and see what happens, in the name and spirit of Christ?! Amen!
4 OUR LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SHARING THE BREAD AND CUP Jesus invites everyone to his table, so, you are welcome to come, receive a piece of bread from a server, dip it in the cup and eat (intinction is a churchy word for this). As you come, if you wish to make an offering, the plates are on the tables at the front for you to do so. You may also use one of the yellow prayer cards in the hymnal rack if you have a prayer request or joy. Those cards too may be placed in the offering plates. Relax. This is meant to be communion with one another in the spirit of Christ. Come! Commune! Enjoy! THE SENDING *CLOSING SONG Soon and Very Soon No. 706 *A BLESSED SENDING How soon might we see and live our way Into the realm and time and way of Christ? Why not today? Why not? God send you, the Spirit fill you, the Risen Christ go with you and you with Christ, always and everywhere! Amen! God bless. Go in peace. Amen. CLOSING MUSIC Jerry Rubino (Out of respect for those who wish to remain and enjoy the closing music, please meet and greet your friends, new and old, over coffee in the lobby.
