6 GUATEMALA MISSION IT'S TIME We want you to join us on our wonderful medical mission in Guatemala November 28 to December 6. If you want to go, you must make a deposit of $800 to UPark UMC by June 1. The total cost will be $1600; your purchases in country are on your own. Ask anyone who has gone before in 2009, 2011, 2013 this is an amazingly incredible experience. We believe we have a core of eight missioners right now. If you have would like to join us or have questions, please contact George Gramer, Team Leader, UMCOR SALT LAKE CITY MISSION TRIP Connie Beauchamp, Nancy Berry, Nancy Fischer, Debby Lawrence, Barbara and Frank Philipp, and Janet Wolfer returned from their Mission Trip to Salt Lake using the UPUMC van. They stayed at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah and traveled daily to work at the UMCOR Depot where they assembled kits for the warehouse. They joined another group of volunteers from several churches in the San Diego area and together they processed approximately 10 pallets of school and health kits amounting to approximately 1500 school kits and 3000 health kits. Barbara Philipp and Janet Wolfer also worked in the sewing room where they helped reassemble school kit bags, and cut and sewed material for assorted baby items. The Relief supply kits help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Health kits, sewing kits, school kits, bedding kits, birthing kits, and cleaning buckets are collected by generous donors across the United States. These items are then sent to one of two supply depots, where volunteers assemble, verify, and pack the kits so that they can be sent to where they are needed most. Kits also help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies. They provide vital support for UMCOR s global development work and make a tangible difference in people s lives. KIDS CANS FOR KIDS BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS! Our latest can redemption for 2015 resulted in 101 pounds worth $60.60 for aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals; for a total of $ thus far this year. We will continue to send these funds to the Children s Hospital Chaplaincy Department to supply Bibles for patients and their families including Spanish Bibles and to supply other reading materials for their mobile interfaith book cart. NOTE: Contributors please separate different types of metals as Atlas Metal & Iron Corp the recycle establishment we use requires that the different types are separated, weighed and valued individually. Peniel Project Sunday Care Kits for the Homeless On May 17th, the Peniel service will be assembling Care Kits to keep in our cars and offer to the hungry and homeless folks we encounter on intersection corners. These kits will include nonperishable food (granola bars, fruit snacks, etc), a pair of white socks, toiletries, an RTD bus voucher, and a resource list for area agencies. Our goal is to make 100 of these kits and to keep them in a basket in the foyer so that all UPark members can utilize the kits across the city! If you would like to support our project, we will be collecting the following items until May 17th: New or like new white tube socks Hotel /travel sized shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste Feminine hygiene products Fruit snacks or other individually packaged snacks Monetary donations are appreciated as well! We will be assembling the kits at 10:30 on May 17th in and everyone is welcome to join us! Contact Liza Stoltz Hanson with questions or interest: L.StoltzHanson@gmail.com.
