You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:13-14, 16) It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you. (John 15:16) As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world. And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth. The graduate s names will be posted in June 28th Sunday Bulletin Notice - Summer Church Bulletins Starting June 21 to August 30 church bulletins will be published biweekly (every 2 weeks). When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities. West Wall Restoration Campaign has officially come to an end It has been one year since initiating the campaign. We wish to thank everyone who generously donated to the West Wall Restoration Campaign, which was enormously successful and came very close to meeting our goal of $45,000. We are thrilled to report we raised $38,832 as of June 7, There have been overruns due to unforeseen building maintenance requirements at different stages of the restoration and in some cases underestimating the work to be done as well as additional improvement requests that were not part of the original estimate. In any major undertaking, such as this one, there are always unexpected costs that were not planned for or foreseen no matter how good the intention of adhering to a budget/goal. Nevertheless the job was done. This left a shortfall of $6,118 which has been taken out of the Maintenance Fund. On behalf of the Parish Pastoral Council THANK YOU for your support!

The stew Holy Family provided was definitely sumptuous! an incredibly generous amount of meat accompanied by an equally incredible amount and variety of vegetables resting in a perfectly seasoned gravy. A meal truly enjoyed by close to 50 hungry folk. Thank you so much to all who contributed to make this supper possible. 7 (Continued from page 1) For which accomplishments in your life, or for which character traits, would you like to be remembered? You might be tempted to think that in God's eyes your legacy doesn't amount to much, nor could it be so noble or set so high as someone like +John Paul II or +Mother Teresa. But if you think that way, you're most likely limiting the important work that God wants to accomplish through you! Our dreams of who we are or might become or what we might accomplish in life, can be quite limited, especially as we get older. World-wearied, discouraged by past failures, fearful of taking undue risks, or held back by conventional ways of thinking and acting, we might accept far less than God actually wants to do in us and through us. It is quite possible that God may want to use you even more in your later years than in your younger years. We may be tempted to think that only canonized saints can accomplish anything significant for the Lord. Lay people may believe that only clergy or religious can make any lasting mark in the Church. And religious or clergy may see their own challenges or difficulties as limiting anything truly worthy of greatness in God's kingdom. But none of these thoughts really reflects God's view of any of us. It's not just about how talented and gifted you are, but about relying on the power of the Cross and the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells in you. As Jesus' disciples, we are called to be his witnesses in the world today. We are to be like salt that tastes salty (Matthew 5:13) or like a city on a hilltop, visible to all (5:14) or a light that shines for others (5:16). In other words, we are to bring the presence of Christ indeed, even be His presence to those around us. As Jesus disciples, we have been sent and consecrated to bear much fruit for Him (John 15:16-19). Whenever we think about our legacy, it is vital to remember that "nothing will be impossible with God" (Luke 1:37). There is so much work to be done, and God needs willing vessels, young and old, to help spread His kingdom. Jesus wants you to believe that He can do mighty things through you. Why not give Him a chance? Let Him know your thoughts, dreams, and desires for your life. Tell Him with humility - but with boldness, "Here I am, Lord. I come to do Your will." Then go for it with all the determination you can muster, and watch what God can do through you! You will see new doors opening and many opportunities to serve the Lord and others. "Lord, I want to leave a legacy behind that brings glory to you. I want to finish well the race set before me. But I know that I need Your Holy Spirit. 11 BEING A CHRISTIAN - The Christian life requires work and effort. Every priest can tell you that he's had his share of people who don't think he understands the difficulties they face with their jobs, families, and spouses. Many people think their priest expects too much of them, and they ignore the homilies that challenge them to go deeper into their faith. They drop a cheque into the collection plate, and head out the door of the church for another round of spiritual nothingness. Yet the scriptures tell us that we must seek first the Kingdom of Heaven. Being successful in business or raising the perfect child are wonderful things, but they should not be on the top of our list. Making more money than your brother-in-law, or having a better house than your neighbors should not be on your list. Working for a good retirement can be a good thing, but not at the expense of your eternal life. The challenges given to us by the Church's priests are meant to aid us in our quest for the Kingdom of God. And if we are taking our faith seriously we will be grateful for those hard to hear homilies that hit too close to home. We seek out a golf pro in order to improve our swing, and expect him to help us be a better golfer. The trainer in the gym is expected to help us be healthier, and fitter, and our financial adviser is expected to help us make good choices in our investments, yet we ignore the advice of our parish priest, as he attempts to help us gain ground in the spiritual arena. Our pride can keep us from deepening our spiritual life, if we refuse to seek the guidance of one more experienced in the inner life. If we don't want anyone telling us what do to or pointing out areas of our lives that need change, we can become spiritually off balanced. The spiritual father gives direction and sets standards that, like the golf pro and weight lifting instructor, are based on experience. Have your priest recommend some spiritual books that can inspire you to work for perfection in your spiritual life. Ask the proprietor of your parish bookstore to suggest books that would work for you. If you don't have a prayer book, get one and use it. Create an icon corner or wall for your own personal and family devotions. Start going to confession on a regular basis. And, whatever you do, don't allow yourself to be late for the services. Arrive from fifteen minutes to a half hour early, so as to properly prepare yourself for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. Make an effort to immerse yourself in the life of the Church. Remember, if we let our own ego be our spiritual guide, we will be following the directions of a fool. Living the Christian life takes effort on our part, and with the guidance of someone who really knows us, and is willing to point out where we need to change, we will begin to grow in our faith. The Christian life begins when we decide to think like a Christian, and spiritual maturation comes with work and effort, just as does emotional maturation. Spiritual maturation will fill your life with tranquility, joy and meaningfulness, but you must work for this end.
