1 Identification Statement of the Wyoming Christian Reformed Church We are the Wyoming Christian Reformed Church. Standing on the infallible Word of God, in the tradition of the Reformed faith as it s expressed in the Heidelberg, Belgic Confession and Canons of Dort, we boldly proclaim and celebrate the coming of God s kingdom in Jesus Christ. By the strength of His Spirit we gather and enfold newcomers into His covenant of grace. We teach and equip believers and their baptized children for obedient, loving service in all areas of life to the praise of our heavenly Father. Regarding Worship: Amidst the wide range of worship practices in our culture today, we maintain that worship is a meeting between God and His people in which God is praised and His people are blessed. Worship must be centered on the preaching of the word the primary means of grace. We deem it a blessing to assemble twice on the Lord s Day to praise His name. Worship is our highest calling and joy. Regarding Moral and Ethical Living: the Bible is our guide for life. It addresses the sanctity of life (Ex 20:13), the roles of men and women in the church and home (1 Tim 2:11-15; Eph 5:22-23), the proper attitude toward material possessions (1 Tim 6:3-10). In short, the Bible addresses every aspect of our lives. In our world ravaged by moral relativism, we affirm that all the principles for Christian living revealed in the Bible and summarized in the Ten Commandments, remain normative for our lives today. The church s task is to proclaim these principles and to call sinners to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. With love and compassion, we practice church discipline and encourage penitent believers in their continual battle against the kingdom of darkness. To strengthen our identity in Christ, we seek contact and fellowship with churches of like mind. 2 Welcome to our worship services in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you come as a visitor today, we hope you will leave as a friend. Whether you are a newcomer to the community or to our church, we are honoured to have you here. May we all be strengthened and encouraged by the proclamation of the gospel. After the morning service, everyone is invited for coffee and juice in the Fellowship Hall, located downstairs. Sunday School: Children aged 3-8 are invited to go downstairs for Sunday School after the children s message and a short prayer of blessing. Parents, please feel free to follow the teachers out and ask them any questions you may have. As we obediently train children in the way they should go, may it be our prayer that they will not turn from it when they are older (Proverbs 22:6). If we can be of any service to you (if you have a prayer request or would like more information about our church and the programs we offer), please do not hesitate to get in touch with an elder or a deacon. The St Joseph s Hospice is a non-profit organization serving Sarnia Lambton area as a Resource Centre for terminally ill people as they face their illnesses and support programs for people who are caring for or grieving the loss of a loved one. Christian Reformed World Missions has been helping Christian Reformed churches fulfill the Great Commission primarily through planting churches and sending missionaries around the world. Bluewater Growing Project is Lambton County s own participation in the Canadian Foodgrains. Wycliffe Bible Translators Canada has served minority language groups worldwide by fostering an understanding of God s Word through Bible translation, while nurturing literacy, education and stronger communities. NEXT WEEK Good Friday service is at 10:00 a.m. on March 30, with the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Easter Sunday's 3:00 p.m. service has been cancelled. CHURCH FAMILY Congratulations to Noah and Samantha Boer on the birth of their healthy baby boy, Brock Shamgar, born Tuesday, March 20. REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS: Our Heavenly Father is gracious, and He has an ever-listening ear. We can call to Him always and find refuge in Him because of Jesus. This is a comfort and a vital outlet for our personal concerns and the concerns of others. Let us be faithful in prayer for one another, asking the Lord to strengthen, heal and encourage. Theresa Boelens has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma & has begun chemo therapy. Ymko Boersma continues recovery after knee replacement surgery. Margurite Brouwer remains in Strathroy Hospital recovering from an injured right hip. Remember in prayer Noah Boer s father Greg, Bill Boersma, Arie & Margurite Brouwer, Rick DeBoer, Jack & Betty Leystra, Fred Poort, Gertie Sipkens, John & Tena Vrolyk and others unable to worship with us. FROM COUNCIL Council asks the congregation to prayerfully consider submitting names to replace three elders and two deacons. Please bring all nominations to your elder by Thursday, April 12. Congregational will be held following the Prayer Day Service on Wednesday, April 18 th.

4 CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS COFFEE BREAK: We will study Lesson 7- Genesis 35:16-37:36-"Endings and a New Beginning". We are again confronted with the weaknesses and faults of Abraham's descendants, and again we see that only by God's hand could this family have survived and become a great nation. WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY: will meet D.V. at 7:30 pm in the consistory room to discuss lesson 21 entitled "The Power of Prayer" from Luke 11: 1-4 and Lord's Day 45 of the Heidelberg. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL: Planning has begun, and we are in need of some supplies. We are hoping you will help us out by donating some if you are able. If you have empty water bottles, and full water bottles, foam meat trays, white rice, paper clips, or marbles that you could donate, please bring them to the church and place them in the box by the mail slots. Also, if you or anyone you know would like to volunteer for the week of VBS please contact Jen DeBoer, Margi Sipkens, or Brenda Beintema. BLOOD DONOR CLINIC: There will be a blood donor clinic at New Life Assembly in Petrolia on Monday, March 26 from 1:30 to 7:30 PM. There will be a group leaving from our church at 5:30 PM. JOB OPPORTUNITIES Educational Assistant Position at Wyoming John Knox Christian School: Our school is inviting applications for an Educational Assistant to work mainly in next year s grades four/five classroom. Applicants should have EA, TA, CYW, or OCT accreditation and relevant experience. This is a part-time 50% position. The start date is September 1. Duties are co-ordinated with the classroom teacher and would include: reading with small groups; assisting with reading programs and assessments; providing math help; assisting individuals; monitoring completion of tasks; assisting with preparation of materials; working both in and out of the classroom. Applicants need to understand and subscribe to the tenets of the Reformed faith and Christian education as practised at John Knox Christian School. 5 REQUESTED ANNOUNCEMENTS JKCS DINNER/AUCTION The energy is increasing with only weeks away! Tables are sold out!! We may have a few seats open up in the next few weeks so if you haven t booked a seat but want to go, let us know ASAP as we now have started a waiting list for dinner. If you haven t booked a dinner seat you can still come to the auction after dinner to join the excitement. Seats will be available once the dinner is cleaned up. The booklet is filling up with some great items. If you haven't sent your donation in yet, please do so soon as the deadline for items will be set at Monday April 9. One Foot in Heaven: This year's drama production, One Foot in Heaven, is based on Hartzell Spence s biographical novel of the same name. Set in 1910, the story focuses on Reverend William H. Spence and their family as they adjust to their new parish and run-down parsonage in Laketon, Iowa. Through patience and humour, the Spence family deals with a wide variety of personalities in their congregation, as they advocate for progress and change. A TRAINING EVENT: called "Aging: Challenges and Opportunities" will help pastors, elders, deacons, disability advocates, and people in their third third and their loved one s minister within and embrace the life God gives us as we age. Sponsored by Disability Concerns, the keynote and workshop topics will include growing in faith in the third third of life, resources for ministry with older adults, caring for aging parents, and aging and mental health. We have been helping broken folks to heal themselves for 33 years. Sarnia Beginning Experience is a registered, international, non-profit, non-denominational, grief support group. We are specially trained volunteers who have been there, done that, and are lovingly giving back what we received from this program.
