Everyday Stewardship Have you ever been somewhere public and days later others said they saw you there? You can find yourself surprised that they saw you and didn't say hello. However, at least they saw you. You, on the other hand, didn't even have any idea they were around you. You may have been oblivious to what was going on or those crossing your path on that day. You may have been forsaking that moment thinking about another time to come down the road. Imagine being one of those who first encountered Jesus as he began his ministry. Would you have noticed? I would like to think that I would have rushed over to him to introduce myself. But on that day when he passed on by I just might have been caught up in life, unaware of all that was intersecting with my place in the world. An everyday steward strives to live mindfully. The more mindful we are of all that is around us, the more grateful we find ourselves because we take things less for granted and the more open we are to the call of Jesus Christ. Every day Jesus crosses our path in the form of others. They may be in need or they may have a gift to offer us. Either way, without living in the present and taking in all that God has provided for us in the day, we can miss it. I would not want to hear afterwards that Jesus saw me and I was not paying attention enough to what was around me to notice. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS 5

7 Director of Catholic Social Concerns Unity. What does "unity" mean? For those of us who claim Christ as our model of living and savior of humanity, it means we are one. This year the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has as its theme the Scripture citation 2 Corinthians 5: The first line contains our mission statement. "For the love of Christ impels us, once we have come to the conviction that one died for all; therefore all have died." If that is not a mandate for unity, then there is none. We are one in the death of Christ and therefore live in unity with all other Christians. God, who are unity in three holy persons--father, Son, and Holy Spirit-- you have called us to live in peace with all people. You have also called us to work toward unity in purpose to spread the Gospel to all nations. Graciously give us the courage and strength to work toward unity, and act toward each other as brothers and sisters. We ask this in the unity of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. 7

Grades 4th through 8th are allowed to compete, and there was a very strong showing by all the participants. The final two competitors were Chidike Anozie (6th) and Makayla Suina (8th), with a close third place by 5th Grader Ethan Romero. One of the final questions that determined the winner was this one:" Amelia Earhart went missing in 1937 while attempting to fly around the world with her navigator, Fred Noonan. National Geographic is sponsoring an expedition to search for the crash site at Nikumaroro Island. Nikumaroro Island is a part of Kiribati, located in what ocean?" The students had to show extreme focus and skill to answer such a convoluted question! (The answer is Pacific Ocean) Congratulations, Chidike Anozie for winning the championship! Chidike will compete against all other champions in New Mexico through an online quiz which will determine his place in the state. From there, he may compete at the State Final at UNM and the last step is the National Final in Washington DC.
