3 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Jonah 3:1-5, 10 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 Mark 1:14-20 Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don Today s Gospel Reading recounts how Jesus calls his first disciples Simon and Andrew, James and John. His herald, John the Baptist, has been put in prison. Jesus urgently calls people to repent and believe in the good news. Like the Ninevites in the first reading, the four fishermen immediately response to God s call. They leave their boats and their nets in order to follow Jesus right on the spot. I will make you fishers of men, Jesus promises his new disciples. They take his words to heart and make following him their priority in life. The response of Peter, Andrew, James and John to Jesus is an example of obedience to God s call. Jesus called them because He loves them and trusts them to share in his mission. As Catholics, we are called to be followers of Christ in whatever path our lives take. This week spend some time contemplating God s call to you. Discern how you will respond to Jesus invitation to follow him. Ask yourself if there something in your life that is getting in your way of responding to Christ. Do you hear his call but put it in the to do later pile because life is so busy? Determine what you need to do to readily accept God s invitations knowing that amazing things will happen to those who accept His call. Saying yes to God will provide the joy and peace only He can fulfill and will lead you to an even deeper relationship with Him. Saturday, February 3rd FEAST OF ST.
