3 PARISH LIFE Page 3 TODAY S READINGS First Reading Second Reading Gospel Reading Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7 Acts 10:34-38 Luke 3:15-16, Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ: A Message from Father Don We all want to be recognized for who we really are. Today s Gospel reading describes that memorable day when Jesus had the joy of being recognized by John the Baptist and approved by God as God s beloved Son. Although Jesus did not need to be baptized (since he was without sin), he wanted to identify himself as closely as possible with God s people. Jesus baptism marks the beginning of his public ministry. He went about proclaiming the good news of peace and doing the good works of justice and healing. Jesus has set the model. He served others, expecting nothing in return. And he expects us to do the same. We are called to not only accept our own cross humbly, but to actively help others carry theirs. It is in serving others that we serve the Lord. This week I ask you to spend some quiet time discerning ways you can help to bring peace, justice, fairness and healing to others. Say a prayer thanking God for your own Baptism. Ask Jesus to help you recognize yourself more deeply as a beloved daughter or son of God. As you consciously become aware of God acting within your life, determine ways you can help others become more aware of God s unending love. 4 PARISH LIFE Page 4 MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR From February 5 to February 10, a group of missionary volunteers from our parish will be traveling to Kingston, Jamaica to work and pray with Father Richard Holung s Brothers and Priests of the Missionaries of the Poor. They will be caring for the poorest of the poor during their stay and will be taking with them basic items that are always needed at the Mission Centers. All volunteers pay their own way. On the weekend of January 26-27, volunteers will be in the Gathering Area to collect donations for the Missionaries of the Poor. Please be as generous as possible. ADORATION & BENEDICTION Held on Tuesdays at 7:00pm in the Chapel Led by Deacon Joe O Connell ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY MASS FOR MARRIED COUPLES SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16th - 10:30am 4 St. Jude Church in Boca Raton Most Reverend Gerald M.
