1 Ss PETER & PAUL April 22, 2018 Come, Pray, Belong Sunday Reflection 4 th Sunday of Easter I am the good shepherd...and I lay down my life for the sheep and they will heed my voice. -John 10:14-16 When you pray, do you only ask Jesus for the things that you want? Do you ever ask Him what He wants from you? How do you listen for His response? Usually, the answer is in quiet whispers, so take time every day, in silence, to actively listen for His response.

May Mr. Del Prete Rest In Peace. Monsignor Del Prete served as Pastor of our Parish for nearly thirteen years. Mr. Del Prete died on Friday, April 13. The Funeral arrangements took place on April 17 and 18. Weekly Reflection By Matthew Ziarnik Today we see our world as a more dangerous and unsafe place. Ascension Thursday May 10 Even if others keep quiet, if we older people and leaders - so often corrupt - keep quiet, if the whole world keeps quiet and loses its joy, I ask you: Will you cry out?"-pope Francis that the problem will go away. Pope Francis wants us to rebel and to fight against the ills of society. We see terrorist attacks popping up around the world, abortion numbers rising, and people being less and less happy. We need to proclaim that only by returning to God will our world change. We need to be dynamic Catholics spiritually, logically, and physically. Catholics who pray daily will be more likely to follow the will of God in their lives. They will also be more likely to evangelize and help the poor. They will realize that God can be found in people who are disadvantaged. Catholics who read books on Catholicism also have a dynamic faith as they are constantly looking at ways to learn and to apply their knowledge to the world. They will be the problem solvers of the world. Seven percent of the US Catholics accomplish 80 percent of the work of the Catholic Church. This means that most of us are not growing in our faith. We as Catholics could unite and solve major societal issues such as poverty. There are 70 million Catholics in the US while there are about 43 million Americans who live in poverty. If every Catholic in the US would help a poor family with buying groceries or with other necessities, we could end poverty. We just need to all take a stand for an issue and we would accomplish it. Catholicism can change the world if we allow it to. Before Christianity hospitals didn t exist, but now they are a major part of life. We all realize that issues such as gun control, violence, and healthcare need to be changed. Let us be loud as Pope Francis reminds us and fix the world. 3 INSIDE OUR SOUND RAISE YOUR VOICE **ATTENTION YOUNG SINGERS** SPP Music Ministry is seeking singers in Grades 8-12 to share their talents in our new and exciting Cantor Training Program. This new program will nurture our parish s young adult performers to become cantors and soloists! Participants will be scheduled to cantor Masses and services on weekends throughout the summer and school year, all while receiving guidance and direction from our professional resident musicians. Involvement in this new program will not only raise our voices in song, but also will be beneficial for college applications, community service projects, and overall leadership skills. We are seeking High School aged singers in our parish community who consider themselves: Musically Inclined- talented singing voices of all types, styles, and genders; with range, pitch, and basic music skills Comfortable singing and speaking in front of crowds Available to sing on Saturdays and Sundays as they are requested and scheduled Punctual and Responsible young adults who will learn by leading others Applicants, and parents of those interested, may brian.walters@ spphoboken.com to apply for this one of a kind program. When Mass is said for a deceased person, the entire Church unites to ask God to remember them and welcome them in His light. Masses can also be offered for the intention of a living souls as well as for your special days: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and engagement. Offering a Mass for them invites Jesus to be present during those times. Because the intention is essentially a spiritual act, its publication neither adds nor subtracts from its efficacy.

The project was sponsored by the NJ Cleanenegy Program, which was brought to our attention by one of our committee members, Adam Glod. Adam works for Green Light Mid-Atlantic LLC in New York City and has assisted numerous institutions and companies in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania to help them understand and qualify for the program. The program allowed us to install LED energy saving bulbs in all the chandeliers throughout the church, which is a total of 156 bulbs, at no cost to the parish for them. If we had purchased the bulbs it would have cost $3, We hired Atlas Ladder which provided the scaffolding so REM electric could reach the down lights and the lights within the cylinder of each chandelier. Both Atlas Ladder and REM Electric gave us a significantly reduced price. We should see a nice reduction in our electrical consumption and hence a nice reduction in our electric bill. The annual savings should be just over $1, While using LED Technology we are also providing a significant environmental benefit when compared to traditional Technology. Our parish will be doing the equivalent of removing two cars off the road or planting 212 trees which helps us be better stewards of the Earth. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for the Spring Arts and Music Festival Booth! SUNDAY, MAY 6 TH Ss Peter and Paul will be participating in the Arts and Music Festival again this Spring on Sunday, May 6. We are asking for volunteers to help staff our booth. The volunteers will be asked to help for a 2 hour time period. The time slots will be 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. We like to have at least 2 people staffing the booth, since it does get busy at times. We have a lot of religious material and religious items to give away.
