Jesus was crucified, then he rose up and was seen by his chosen witnesses. Peter also mentions the importance of all the disciples bearing witness to what they saw, so that many people would believe in Jesus, and have their sins forgiven through him. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 Paul asserts that we must pay attention to higher realms rather than earthly concerns. Our life is not yet completely known to us, until Christ appears and we are raised to glory in him. Gospel: John 20:1-9 When Mary Magdalene discovered Jesus tomb was open, she told Simon Peter and another disciple. They ran to the tomb and Peter went inside. He found the burial wrappings on the ground, with the head covering separate from the rest. The other disciple came in and they believed what they saw, although until then they had not understood the Scripture s message of Jesus resurrection. R.C.I.A. We remember in our prayers our RCIA candidates preparing to complete their Sacraments of Initiation. They will be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation before they receive the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation during this Easter Season. We welcomepatricia Verge Ann Lazarus, Pauline Esther Theresa Agumbah, and Naomi Denice Sophia Rodriguezwho will be baptized on Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday. We join them in thanking God for this great gift. Let us continue to offer them our fraternal support and prayers.

Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. 3) On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of abstinence. 4) The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Abstinence Substantially, or as a whole, is a serious obligation. 5) The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are designed as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as penance. 6) The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty*) extends from the First Sunday of Lent, February 22,2015 to The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, May 31 st, *Canon920,1. All the faithful, after they have been initiated into the Most Holy Eucharist, are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. THE PASCHAL CANDLE This year The Paschal Candle was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Simeon and Victoria Whitehill in honor of her mom and dad; Emanuela and Pasquale Pezzuto The Paschal Candle represents Christ, the Light of the World. The candle is made with pure beeswax which represents the sinless Christ who was formed in the womb of His Mother. During the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night, the priest or deacon carries The Paschal Candle in procession into the dark church. A new fire, symbolizing our eternal life in Christ, is kindled- which lights the candle. The Easter Candle is lit each day during Mass throughout the Paschal season until Ascension Thursday Do you know of someone receiving their First Communion (outside of St Elizabeth) And looking for the right gift? PASTOR S COLUMN...Not to be served by others, but to serve, to give his own life as a ransom for the many. (Matthew 20:28) WELCOME THE NEW DAY! In today s First Reading, Peter proclaims the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus to the Gentile centurion Cornelius and his household. Earlier, at the urgings of an angel, Cornelius had sent for Peter in order that he might hear the Word of God. Now standing in the home of a Gentile, Peter summarizes the narrative details of the Gospel of Luke. While Peter is preaching, the Holy Spirit descends upon the Gentiles, and they too will be baptized. Scholars see the baptism of Cornelius and his family as the beginning of the Gentile mission. The Second Reading from the Letter to the Colossians explains that by virtue of baptism, we are buried with Christ only to be raised alive with Him by God. This new status warrants different behavior. No longer should the Colossians, and we who have been baptized, be concerned about food or drink or festivals. Rather, seek what is above where Christ dwells, since now we have become one with Him. Today s Easter Gospel describes how experience of those who fist saw the empty tomb. Mary comes to the tomb early in the morning while it is still dark. When she finds the burial stone rolled away, she runs to Peter and the disciple whom Jesus loved announcing that someone has taken the body. Peter and the other disciple run to the tomb and discover the burial linens lying there, but the body of Jesus is indeed gone. The evangelist explains that they did not yet understand the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead. It would take personal encounters with the resurrected Jesus before the disciples would come to insight Mary meets Jesus and mistakes Him for the gardener; Jesus appears to the Eleven who are hiding behind a locked door; and Thomas will need to touch the wounds before Jesus resurrection is real to him. Despite all these encounters, Jesus announces: Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. My dear friends, God saves us not by rescuing us from the earth into heaven, but by creating through the Spirit a NEW heaven and a NEW earth. The resurrection of Jesus is our first glimpse of that new reality that God is creating. We ought to view our earthly realities in the

5 light of the risen Christ the true destiny of all created realities. But this destiny is not easily visible to us or to others, not unlike the way in which we do not clearly see the risen Jesus. We already share in Christ s resurrected life, but that is a life that is hidden with Christ in God. So when we seek what is above we are not seeking an escape from the world; we are seeking the resurrected life of the world that is secretly present now, but will be fully manifest when Christ appear in His glory. May we be joy-filled witnesses of the risen Christ every day of our lives. God be with us always!
