Our preschoolers through fourth graders went on their first field trip this week to the Morton Arboretum.

We welcomed our parents in on Thursday to hear about our positive approach to discipline this year that focuses on giving our students the tools to make better choices.

The parents also had the opportunity to meet their child s teacher and hear about all of the learning that will be taking place in the classroom this year.

Another mantra that you will hear frequently in our building this month is Everyone can learn.

It s FREE and EASY to Register! Kid s Corner School News The beginning of a school year brings with it so many exciting activities as the students settle into the new routine. Our preschoolers through fourth graders went on their first field trip this week to the Morton Arboretum. We are blessed to offer Spanish language classes to our 5th - 8th grades this year and are thrilled to welcome Fr. Andrew to our faculty as their teacher. We welcomed our parents in on Thursday to hear about our positive approach to discipline this year that focuses on giving our students the tools to make better choices. If you walk into our school, you will notice our Good Choice Pledge immediately. It is We are respectful, responsible, and safe. Our entire discipline approach is built around those values. The parents also had the opportunity to meet their child s teacher and hear about all of the learning that will be taking place in the classroom this year. In addition, we had our first family tailgating party and then walked over to see the St. Edward Green Wave play. Another mantra that you will hear frequently in our building this month is Everyone can learn. This is part of our growth mindset program which focuses on the belief that with perseverance and motivation, everyone is capable of learning. One of the greatest gifts we can share with our children is the power of YET - I don t understand this YET. Because service to others is a primary focus of our school, we participated in the National Catholic Education Association s Student to Student initiative this week which is raising money for schools in Texas who are in dire need of help to reopen. Next week, our Parent Teacher Club is hosting their monthly meeting at Epic Air so parents can come to discuss and plan the events that will be held this year while their children are able to enjoy the trampoline park. As always, I would love to share the many gifts we have to offer at St. Laurence to any families who are looking for a top notch education in a faith-filled, family environment. PERSONA A few years ago I was listening to a talk in which the presenter said, God speaks to us in our persona while we respond to Him in our personality. He started using examples from the Bible like Moses whom God called to deliver the people of Israel from Egypt. Initially the response of Moses was not proportionate to the calling of God. God calls Moses Deliverer and Moses responds multiple times saying Choose someone else No one will believe me. God was calling Moses to be the person He (God) created him (Moses) to be and Moses was making excuses. So when God calls us to something He calls us in our persona, who He created us to be. Often times we, like Moses, respond in our personality, who we think we are and of what we are capable. The truth is that God has created us for so much more than what we think we can do or who we think we are. Essentially, God called Moses Deliverer of Israel and Moses said I m just Moses. God s purpose for Moses was far greater than what Moses thought of himself, despite having just murdered someone. Some of the greatest saints were the greatest sinners: St. Paul was also a murderer; St. Augustine lived a frivolous young life; and, Bl. Bartolo Longo was a satanic priest. So no matter what your past has been or how ineffective you think you would be following God down a path toward priesthood or religious life, consider that possibly God is calling you in your persona but those doubts are part of your personality.
