Now is the time to invite your sons, grandsons or men next to you at Sunday Mass to join us in our mission of serving our Church and community. Invite them to take their 1 st Degree of our order. Our meeting starts at 7:00, so new candidates should plan to arrive no later than 6:45. Later in November, we are holding a brand new event titled Mom s Day Off. The date and time are Saturday, November 24 from 1-5pm. This is a great opportunity for us to show appreciation for all that our wives do, giving them a day off to relax, spend time with their girlfriends or do their favorite activity shop! It just happens to fall on the day after Black Friday, so it will be a great opportunity for the wives to do some Christmas shopping! All members are invited to bring their kids with them to the Hall to enjoy movies, games, activities and snacks. We ll even send you all home at the end of the day with a prepared meal for the entire family! This is sure to be a hit with the wives!!! Fraternally, Jim Jatcko, GK Knight of the Month Bradley Wise was our Knight of the Month for October. Bradley joined our council earlier this year and has taken an active role in our council s activities as well as at St. Mary s Parish. At St. Mary s, he is an active member on one of the Christ Renews His Parish (CHRP) teams. Bradley was married on Sept 1 and helped out on multiple nights at our Soccer Challenge for youth at the SIUE fields. Congratulations Bradley! Family of the Month Our Family of the Month for October was the Lask Family. Donald and his son Michael have been active members of our council since joining earlier this year. They both helped out with our annual Soccer Challenge at the SIUE fields in September. Michael also assisted us with the dinner for priests held in conjunction with the Diocesan Priestly Convocation on Sept 18 at St. Boniface. Thank you Donald and Michael for your example of service to others! Mom's Day Off We are hosting Mom's Day Off at the Hall on Saturday, Nov 24 from 1-5pm. Dads from both parishes are welcome to bring their children (12 & under) for an afternoon of entertainment, movies and games while moms get to have an afternoon off doing whatever they d like to do. Snacks will be provided and dads will also be given a free dinner to bring home to the family at the end of the day! Volunteers are also needed. 2 Family Christmas Party Dec. 16 Brother Knights, Join us for our annual family Christmas celebration on Sunday, December 16 from 1 4pm. The council will provide ham and turkey sandwiches. Members with last names starting with A-M should bring a side dish and members with last names beginning with N-Z should bring a dessert. There will be activities available for the kids and Classic Christmas movies will be played on the projector. Please have the kids bring an extra pair of shoes to set out for an anticipated visit by St. Nicholas! Please RSVP to Ryan Fitzpatrick at rafitzpatrick21@gmail.com no later than December 9 to allow us to properly plan for the food. Hope to see you there! 2018 Edwardsville Soccer Challenge Champs! Please join me in congratulating the 2018 Edwardsville Council Soccer Challenge Champions. They are: Boys: Ben Reader, 9; Simon Schulte, 10; Spencer Sundberg, 11; Chase Alwardt, 12; Blake Smith, 13. Girls: Nora Baker, 9; Hayden Etcheson, 10; Abby Jones, 11; Katherine Empson, 12; Nicole Johnson, 13; Kaylee Supinski, 14. These boys and girls advanced to the District competition held in Highland on October 18. Our council champions also did very well at the District Soccer Challenge in Highland. Nora Baker, Hayden Etcheson, Abby Jones, Katherine Empson, Nicole Johnson, Simon Schulte and Blake Smith won their age groups and advanced to the Regional competition which was held at Mater Dei High School in Breese on Sunday, October 28. This year, we had a great turnout for the Council level competition. As done the previous couple years, we co-hosted the event with St. Cecilia council in Glen Carbon. Over 150 boys and girls, ages 9-14, competed. This is the highest number of participants in our history. Plus, there was another 20 or more who competed in the local 7-8 year old age groups. The 7-8 year olds do not advance beyond the local level. A big thank you to all the men and their families, and the McGivney students who helped make the 2018 Soccer Challenge a huge success. Your help is greatly appreciated! Jerry Kapp and Mark Rimkus Safe Environment Safe Community We as members of the KofC are committed to making our communities safe as well. As members, we assure the safety of our communities by demonstrating commitment to ensuring the protection of our youth. We do this through our Safe Environment Training Program. The Safe Environment Training Program offered by the Knights is no longer restricted to officers, directors or other key administrative positions. Recently, the Safe Environment Training became available to every member. This Safe Environment Training Program can be found at Once you have found the proper site, simply click on training for members, which is the BLUE tab. After clicking on the tab, you will be taken to the registration page. Enter the registration code given to you on the previous page, then click submit. Make sure you have your membership ID number ready. The registration page requires that all fields be completed. Select the organization, change the state/province, choose volunteer and then the user position Knight. Complete all questions, then Click Here to Enroll. There are three courses to complete. Each takes approximately 30 minutes. You can complete a course and, if necessary, log out and return at a later date to finish remaining courses. Upon completion, you will be given the opportunity to print out a certificate. The Safe Environment Training Program provides very pertinent information related to the safety and protection of our children. It is a detailed program that will help all of those instructed to identify and act accordingly in providing assistance to victims of child abuse. This course is available to all Brother Knights and is free of charge. Please consider taking the course so that you can become more aware of this serious issue. Knowledge is power! Please let us all consider taking advantage of this opportunity to help keep our children safe.

Blake Renken, son of Brother Knight Bryce Renken, recently began a beautification project at our Hall as his Eagle Scout project. Blake and his crew removed dead bushes, stumps and debris from the landscaping around our building, leveled and secured the bench outside the main entrance, planted new perennials and provided additional landscaping rock to the beds.
