1 BAY MESSENGER SEPTEMBER, AM - Worship, Second Blessing Sunday School Child Care Available FROM PASTOR JONATHAN- Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 An elderly man lay dying in his bed. In death's agony, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies wafting up the stairs. He gathered his remaining strength, and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning against the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom, and with even greater effort forced himself down the stairs, gripping the railing with both hands. With labored breath, he leaned against the doorframe, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven. There, spread out upon newspapers on the kitchen table, were literally hundreds of his favorite chocolate chip cookies. Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of heroic love from his devoted wife, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man? Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself toward the table, landing on his knees in a rumpled posture. His parched lips parted. Though he had not touched one yet, the wondrous taste of the cookie was already in his mouth, seemingly bringing him back to life. ADULT INSIDE THIS ISSUE: DISCIPLESHIP 3 ASP 4 CHILDREN S MINISTRY CHOIR 5 POTLUCK 7 COLUMBARIUM SURVEY 8 MOBILE FOOD PANTRY 7 RALLY DAY 6 The aged and withered hand quivered as it made its way to a cookie at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked with a spatula by his wife. "Stay out of those," she said, "they're for the funeral." Dear friends, do not wait to show kindness to one another. Treat one another with such love and kindness that you will have no regrets when death parts you and the ones you love. We can procrastinate about all kinds of things. But never put off kindness. Never put off love. Never put off building bridges. Never put off a word of encouragement. Who is estranged from you just now? Who needs to hear a word of forgiveness from you? Who may have forgotten how much you care? The funeral is the wrong time to show your love. Now is the time. Pick up the phone and make the connection. Do it now.

These points of connection are just the start and I can already see how blessed we are to have such amazing youth in our midst. Fun. Introspective. Caring. Kind. Rally Day, Sept 10 is the first official day of the season. Let s fill this church youth energy. Let s high five them in the halls. Let s greet them and ask them their names. Let them show you how to bring JOY into being a Christian. Following Rally Day, our Confirmation class will begin their journey by focusing on what it means to be a Methodist and by answering important foundational questions about the Bible. They will meet on Sept. 9:00 for their first Confirmation breakfast, which is always a good time. Our Youth Group (new name TBD) will get off the stage and into the City of Bay for a 5 hour retreat. They will visit the Village Project to discover partnership opportunities, play at Perfect Fit in a Cross Fit Faith Challenge, get creative in the sand at Huntington Beach and then we will plan our year together. Another new opportunity for ALL our youth is the new quarterly TREK All Kid Worship Service. The first service will be held on Oct. 1 in Fellowship Hall with all the kids from PreK-12. Yup. That s right! All the kids. It will be a high energy service that we hope will bring all our children together like never before. Our first service will focus on Communion. 8 PAGE 8 BAY MESSENGER BUMC COLUMBARIUM SURVEY Because of interest by some members of our congregation, leadership is considering a proposal for the building of a Columbarium on church grounds as a service to our members and their families. It will be a permanent structure that would be cared for and maintained by the church for generations to come. There would be no cost to the general congregation and would be financed by the purchase of individual niches (vaults). Feedback is needed in order for leadership to make the best decision regarding this potential project. Some comments might be: Yes, I support the building of a Columbarium. Yes, I would be interested in purchasing a niche. No, I am opposed to building a Columbarium at BUMC. I neither oppose or support a Columbarium. It is up to the leadership to decide. I would like more information before I make a decision on this proposal. Thank you in advance for your reply to: Ken Sauer: sauerkennifer@gmail.com Peter Gierosky: Peter@MHTechinc.com Keith McGregor: kmcgregor1@ameritech.net Or leave your feedback in the mail box outside the office marked IVA DAVID.
