An angel bearing the seal of the living God demands that the land and sea not be destroyed; huge crowds stand before the throne of the Lamb crying out that salvation comes from God; angels gathered round and praised God; an elder questions John and explains that those dressed in white are the ones who have survived the great period of trial. Second Reading: 1 John 3:1-3 Once again John speaks to us of love. He points out to us the great love that the Father has for us by allowing us to be called children of God. John explains that the world doesn't recognize us because it never recognized Jesus. Our future will be revealed to us and in that light we shall see him as he is. Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12a When Jesus saw the crowds of people he went up to the mountainside gathered his disciples around him and began to teach them. This lesson in love has come to be known to us as the great "Sermon on the Mount" or "The Beatitudes. 3 From the Pastor's Desk: (November 1 st, 2015) Today we celebrate All Saints Day. Do we know a saint? Being a saint is not easy and certainly not a perfect person. We all have imperfections even saints. What is so different about a saint is that they lived their lives trying day in and day out to follow the beatitudes that we learn in today s gospel. Sainthood is a lifelong process that allows us to live the life that Jesus wanted for us so that we can come to know and join him in heaven. Do we know Christians that are happy.. Always? You can see the happiness in their eyes. The power of the Spirit flows through them, even in subtle ways. They are the poor in spirit, the peacemaker, the pure in heart, and the ones who thirst for the right way to God. They are the faithful. When we try, when we strive to live out the Beatitudes, we are saints. Sainthood is a lifelong process, not some sort of vague reward in heaven. It is a life of accepting God s gifts and acting on them, even in imperfect ways. Sainthood is trying to live out the Beatitudes, not a question of succeeding. November 7 th at the 12:05 mass we will celebrate All Souls. All the deceased from October 2014 to October 2015 will be mentioned at that mass. Family and friends are encouraged to join us in prayer for the soul of their loved one. God is with us always! Fr. 4 Youth Ministry would like to invite youth in 8 th - 12 th grades, to join. The sessions are held Wednesday nights, 7:30pm in the lower level of the church. Our mission is to enhance our youth s knowledge on the word of God, promote friendship, bring out the talents of each and to learn more about themselves. We want the youth to know we care about their well-being and that the church is a safe place to go. Since July, Youth Ministry has gone to Dorney Park, Red Bulls soccer game, organized activities at Linden s Street Festival, hosted Bingo at Delaire, and went apple/pumpkin picking. 5 Thanksgiving Cake Orders Holy Family Parish in Linden has a long- standing tradition of baking nut, cheese, poppy and prune breads for Thanksgiving. Orders can be placed starting this week or until their quota has been met. The breads are $15.00 each. Please call Mary Lou Lystash at between the hours of 9:00 am to 8:00 pm to place your orders.
