Crossroads Emmaus and Chrysalis of Eastern Pennsylvania Hello Emmaus Family September 2017 I am extremely happy that the fall walks are both taking place this year, and I hope the Pilgrims and the teams are deeply blessed during their time together with The Lord. If you haven t been to a Candlelight or closing service recently this would be an awesome time to do so. Let s show the participants in the Fall Walks the full love and energy of this community and how Christ works through us. If you can make it to the Candlelight services please do, let s fill New Hanover UMC with Love, Light and Song! There will also be important board elections at the Women s Candlelight. If you have ideas or concerns about how the community is being run, THIS would be a great time to serve on the board and make a difference. Greg Engroff, the Executive Director of Program Ministries at The Upper Room, will be serving on the men s team and will also address the community at the Men s Candlelight. Men s Candlelight is Saturday October 7th, 8:00 pm Women s Candlelight is Saturday October 14th, 8:00 pm Both will take place at: New Hanover UMC 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA Let s fill that church on both nights my friend! I hope to see you there. Yours in Christ, Chuck Addis Page 1

The Pilgrims of Face to Face Encounter #1 had a grand experience May into June. Meeting once a week for four weeks, they looked forward to being with their new friends each morning. The talks were well received and discussions were lively. The only complaint was that the time for discussions was limited. Candlelight, well, the pilgrims were impressed, moved and overwhelmed when the community came to surround them. The staff and pilgrims of Encounter #1 want to thank God and all of you for your support, prayers and agape, especially attending the candlelight. Encounter #1 having been completed and critiqued, the Face to Face Board of directors is moving ahead. One of our tasks to get our structure solidified to continue. Therefore, we are asking for interested older adults, from other gatherings, to join the Face to Face Board of directors. Our meetings are daytime on weekdays. Representation needs to be more diversified throughout the community, to help all areas to have a Face to Face Encounter experience, as all our churches have older adults who would like to go on a Walk to Emmaus but are just not able to do so. Please contact one of the Face to Face board members if you would like to volunteer. The other thing we are working on is Encounter #2, that will be held May 10,15,19 and 22, 2018 at Zion UMC of Iona, th Ave., Lebanon, PA We need staff for the Encounter, conference room staff, Agape Leader and helpers. We look for older adults, similar to the ages of the pilgrims (retirees). We try to staff the Encounters with people from the area where the Encounter will take place. Please do not hesitate to volunteer to help Face to Face or Chrysalis, or the Walk to Emmaus. We cannot to have these great events without your help. Mary Wilson, Lead Coach Face to Face Page 3
A look Back at Walk 63 What an awesome God we serve. It was such an honor and humbling experience to serve as the lay director for the 63 rd Women s Crossroad Walk to Emmaus. I served with an awesome group of women and man, who were ready to do what was needed to make sure the pilgrims experienced God s grace and love. As send off approached I kept feeling inadequate and nervous to lead the walk, instead of worrying about it, I walked off and prayed. I said God, this is not my walk, this is YOUR walk, use me and I know the women you chose to come will feel your grace, love and presence. After saying that prayer, I felt calm and peaceful. After reading the first five names, I knew we were going to have a great group of ladies. The entire weekend was filled with God s spirit and it was so exciting to see Him at work. I look forward to serving again because spending 72 hours secluded from the world and present with the Lord, is the best experience there is. Vickie Lefever Lay Director 63 rd Women s Crossroad Walk to Emmaus Page 4
Candlelight Candlelight services for the 64th Crossroads Walks to Emmaus will be held on October 7, for the men, and October 14, for the women, at New Hanover United Methodist Church, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA Services will begin at 8:00 PM. Please come out and support the pilgrims in this very special event. Fourth Day Fall Fourth Day will be held on November 18 at West Lawn UMC, 15 Woodside Avenue, West Lawn, PA The program will begin at 12:00 PM with lunch. Anyone who has sponsored a pilgrim on the 64th walk is reminded to bring your pilgrim to this event. All members of the community are invited to attend to welcome these new members into our community, to enjoy the Emmaus fellowship, and to meet and support the teams of the 65th walk. Hope to see you there! Page 5

Volunteer to help serve meals by: Clicking on this link: If you are a sponsor or spouse of a pilgrim, it is best that you not volunteer in order to allow the pilgrim space to absorb the weekend. All volunteers should work in the background as much as feasible. If you have any questions, you can contact, Alan Donaldson, who is the Outside Servant Team Leader for the Men s walk or, Judy Culshaw, who is the Outside Servant Team Leader for the Women s walk. 2. Participate in the 72 Hour Prayer Vigils! You can sign up to participate in the prayer vigils, in which you schedule a half hour to pray for the team members and pilgrims by name. To select your time to pray, sign up at the following links: Men (Oct 5-8) - Women (Oct 12-15) Pray for the Speakers! You can pray for the team members who will be giving talks; you can also pray that the Holy Spirit will open the pilgrims hearts and minds to the message in the talks. If so moved, you can come to Camp Innabah to pray in the Community Prayer Chapel in Covenant Lodge during the talks, and possibly combine your visit that day with serving a meal. Page 7
