1 Trinity United Methodist Church 75 East High Street, Mount Gilead, Ohio The Chimes February 2018

2 I came across the following story in a book by Max Lucado. A nineteenth century Sunday school teacher led a Boston shoe clerk to Christ. The teacher s name you may have never heard: Kimball. The name of the shoe clerk he converted you may have guessed, and whether you have or not, he is famous: Dwight L. Moody. Moody became an evangelist used greatly by God and had a major influence on a young preacher named Frederick B. Meyer. Meyer began to preach on college campuses and while doing so converted J. Wilbur Chapman. Chapman became involved in the YMCA and arranged for a former baseball play named Billy Sunday to come to Charlotte, North Carolina, for a revival. A group of Charlotte community leaders were so enthusiastic afterward they planned another campaign and brought Mordecai Hamm to town to preach. In that revival a young man named Billy Graham yielded his life to Christ. Max Lucado says, Did the Boston Sunday school teacher have any idea what would come of his conversation with a shoe salesman? The point is, we never know the influence we have on people and what the outcome will be down the road. For example, if we touch a life, we may never know who that life will touch and so on. Together we do great things for God as we each touch a life here and there. Think about this, if we all influenced just one life for Christ and if that person became involved in our church, see how we would grow! God bless, Pastor Jeff Lay Servant/Speaker Ministry Training February 17, :30 am - 7:30 Mt. 4 United Methodist Women News MISSIONS COMMITTEE Hello Ladies of Trinity! Missions Committee meeting Monday, 2/5 in the conference room at 7:00 p.m. February is the month of love. We express our love of family and friends with valentines, flowers, and candy. How can we express our love of God this month? One way is to participate in some of the activities and missions UMW provides. Our meeting on Monday, February 12th at 7:00 pm will start with a guest speaker on Tai Chi. We will learn some of the benefits and some of the moves you can do even from your chair!! This fits into our theme for 2018 Sacred Spaces by learning Rest and Self Care. We will also have a short meeting where we will get our new 2018 program cards and learn about upcoming mission opportunities. You are asked to bring 1 valentine to the meeting. This can be as simple as a hand written note. Write it appropriate to any attendee as we will each draw one. Sewing/ cutting day is Wed. Feb. 14th from This is a fun and social activity and a lot is accomplished. There is something everyone can do. Poquer Club is Wed., Feb. 28th at 8:30am at Edison Depot. 6 Youth Group The Youth at Trinity have been very busy the past few months. We have continued with our Bible Study called, "Echo" from Cokesbury. It focuses on the Old Testament stories and their applications to our daily life as we learn more about God and His chosen people. The Youth attended Winter Jam and had a blast! February Youth Schedule Sunday, 2/4 5:30 p.m. Super Bowl Party at the Cardinal Center Sunday, 2/11 7:00 p.m. Youth Group at church Sunday, 2/19 7:00 p.m. Youth Group at church Sunday, 2/25 7:00 p.m. Youth Group at church Finding Our Roots Sunday, February 11 - in Trinity Hall following 10:30 worship service. Potluck luncheon will be at 11:45 with a program of photos and videos of Croatia and Austria at 12:45 with Allen and Alberta Stojkovic. You may wish to bring a favorite family dish to the potluck. We invite you to join us on a trip to Austria and Croatia. See the sights of the Hapsburg palaces in Vienna, and the mountains to the south of Austria. Then we ll venture into Croatia, cruising the Adriatic coast, visiting villages, a Roman Coliseum in Pula, Diocletian s Palace in Split, the walled city of Dubrovnik and the devastation still remaining from the 1993 war in Mostar. Those are just a few of the sights and sounds you will experience as we visit this unique culture. Midwest Mission Team Did you know that 2017 held the record for the costliest natural disasters in U.S. history? Over $306 billion dollars. Midwest sent over 14,000 cleaning buckets to these areas to help with the cleanup efforts. Now with the warmer temperatures coming at the time of this writing, the snow piled high everywhere, it will melt and create another problem, flooding. We are looking for sponsors to purchase Cleaning Buckets! Would your Sunday School class, Bible Study group, Community Service organization, Scouts, or family like to sponsor a Cleaning Bucket? The cost of the bucket and its supplies is $65. It is cheaper for the Midwest Distribution Center in Chatham, Illinois to purchase the supplies in bulk to keep it at this cost. Therefore we are asking for monetary donations only. The money for the Cleaning Buckets needs to be turned into Trinity United Methodist Church, 75 East High Street, Mt. Gilead, by June 30 along with the form filled out below. You can pick up additional forms at the Cleaning Bucket Display in the Narthex. Thank you, any donation will help this campaign be a success. The Midwest Mission Team
