2 PASTOR S PAGE Where did the summer go! I don t know about you but in the middle of winter I look forward to the warmer weather of spring and summer. Then spring and summer comes and goes so quickly. Yes, the seasons come and go. And the longer I live (and we all know this from experience) the faster time flies. Actually as we move into fall, I have to say that it s my favorite season of the year. I like the somewhat cooler temperatures, the clear blue skies, the lower humidity and the color of the leaves changing. Speaking of the seasons makes me think of the seasons of life. I just turned 58 in August. Am I middle aged or am I old? Now for those who are older, please forgive me for calling myself old. I like to think that I m still young. I m still able to get out and walk and jog, but the hips and knees are starting to feel the wear. I think one of the things I am the most thankful for as I progress in the seasons of life, is that I can look back and see the hand of God at work in different ways. For example, I can look back to each church I have pastored and each community my family has lived in and see the hand of God at work in my life. The Lord has certainly helped me grow in so many ways. My relationship with God has matured in the sense that I don t know what I would do without the Lord. Thank God that He is there! In July I preached on the theme: The God Who Is There. (Remember the story of the woman who was in the World Trade Center tower when it collapsed on 9/11 and her testimony about God s miraculous intervention?) God is always present. In the sermon I talked about experiencing God s presence in my life at different times in tangible ways. But I have to say that these days God s presence is just an ongoing sense of peace and joy. This sense of peace and joy comes from knowing Jesus as Savior but especially as the God who causes, as Paul says in Romans 8:28, everything to work together for the good. It s easy to see the good in things that are such blessings, the mountain top experiences. But the valleys are good too. It s not always easy to see what God was and is doing in the valley. But like Jacob who in later years leaned on his cane and blessed his children, I have to say, Thank you God for it all. In other words, I realize I am who I am especially because of the struggles and the challenges I have been through. But my whole point is just to say, the God who is present with us is so good! His goodness flows through all things in life as we practice His presence by reading God s word, spending time in prayer, worship and serving others. To God be all the glory and to Him goes all the praise! God Bless, Pastor Jeff
