GATHERING TOGETHER TO WORSHIP PRELUDE OPENING RESPONSE L: This is the day that the Lord has made; P: let us rejoice and be glad in it. *SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST L: In his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught us: when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister and then come and offer your gift. Before we offer our gifts of worship and self to God, we must make peace with one another. L: The Peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. P: And also with you. L: Let us pass the peace of Christ. PASSING OF THE PEACE RESPONSE: Blest Be the Tie that Binds Blest be the tie that binds; Our hearts in Christian love; The fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. We grow lax in our discipline, and we disobey Christ. Our faith is flabby when put to the test; our courage vanishes in the face of temptation. Our joints stiffen when we are called to act. We profess loyalty, while our bodies deny commitment. Have mercy upon us and forgive us our sin. *RESPONIVE ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Hear Paul s words when he writes: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you were bought with a price. Christ mercifully paid the price for our sin. Through him we may approach God with our temples made clean. P: Thanks be to God. Our offerings are a thanksgiving for these gifts. Open now your hearts and share your possessions so that the church s work is made strong for the sake of this needy world. Our bodies are sustained by your goodness and power. You are the source of every good act we perform and of every talent we possess. These gifts are but a portion of what you give us in abundance.
