CELEBRATE RECOVERY When I mention Celebrate Recovery, I often get a response that goes something like this, "I have a (insert here): brother, aunt, coworker, friend, or spouse that could really benefit from this program." At times, we are in denial about our own hurts, hang ups or habits. We welcome your family and friends and WE WELCOME YOU. God's amazing grace has and will continue to break the chains that bind us. Psalm 107:10-14 "Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains, for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High...Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains." (NIV) I remember the heavy weight of sin and shame that kept me bonded to my alcoholism, self-injury and depression. Celebrate Recovery has lead me to salvation in which my chains were broken, my sins were forgiven, and my conscience set free. INVITE

4 Sermon Outline What Have I To Fear? Revelation Revelation 1:9-18 I. We the book of Revelation II. Fear causes us to be by unhealthy things. III. How did the early Christians stand to and stare the fears before them? IV. If what is in Revelation was for the early Christians to face their fears, then it is also for us to face our fears. V. What was it then that John gave the early Christians (and us) to overcome their fears? John gave the early Christians a view of the and exalted Jesus. (Tim Keller) VI. Jesus is the and. VII. We must in our daily lives realizing the cosmic nature of Jesus. Then we have nothing to fear. VIII. When John is most afraid Jesus, Do not be afraid. him and IX. Today the of Pentecost comes and touches us. Life Reflection: Is Jesus truly my Alpha and Omega? Do I really realize the COSMIC Jesus? Or do I constantly only see baby Jesus? What do my fears look like compared to the cosmic nature of Jesus? What would help me to realize the immense nature of Jesus? Into what fears in my life do I need a touch from Jesus and to hear the words Fear not!? Scripture Reflection: Revelation 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. Pastor s Page Communication: What s Going On? First Church, Over the last number of weeks I have been traveling to a number of our small groups with our Lead Council Chair Person, John Best. We have used this time in a variety of ways including: listening to folks, hearing suggestions/questions, offering responses, seeking to be transparent, and getting the pulse of where people are at in their faith connection with First Church. It has been a great experience and I am very grateful for the helpful insights that so many have given. During this time, perhaps the most consistent theme that we have heard needing addressed is COMMUNICATION. And quite honestly this is no surprise. With all that is going on at the church it can be difficult to communicate clearly. When it comes to communication there is no easy one fix answer to it all. But there are some things we can be aware of: **Check out the newsletter each week. It high-lights the most important things coming up in line with our vision of Transformation in Christ: Changing Lives Inside and Out through the practices of Inviting, Teaching, and Sending. **Look specifically at the Pastor s Page each week. I try to use this space to give a heads up whenever anything significant is coming our way. **Utilize the weekly First Glance letter (if you are not signed up please do so by contacting the church office at fumc2@comcast.net). This brief letter high-lights a few of the most pertinent upcoming events each week. **Utilize the church website--- is a LOT of information there. ** Like us on Facebook (First Church Williamsport). This is a great place for information and to see ministry in action. **Listen to the verbal announcements each week as they high-light upcoming opportunities. **Always feel free to contact the church office or John Best (jmbest2@gmail.com) or myself (mlake5@comcast.net) for questions. Any of us are happy to answer any questions you might have. **And finally, please help each other by encouraging folks to do all of the preceding steps. Many times the information may be there but we simply don t realize it. In my experience communication happens best when we trust one another. I hope with each passing day our trust with one another continues to grow as we seek to serve Christ with our whole hearts and seeing more lives transformed in Jesus Christ. Thanks for being who you are First Church! It is my great privilege to serve with you! In Christ, Pastor Matt
