"Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:18 World Communion Sunday is always a special time in the life of Trinity Church as often quoted more Christians gather around the Lord's Table on that day than any other day of the calendar year. But this year it was "extra special. Session approved receiving a special offering that day for the SYRIAN REFUGEE CRISIS that exceeded all expectations. An urgent but low key appeal went out to the congregation that garnered in excess of $3,800. Thanks be to God! And what made it extra, extra special was the reception of sixteen new members--most by reaffirmation of faith--into the fellowship of God's people here at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The "oldsters" among us were heard to remark that this was by far the largest class received in recent memory. Kudos to our Outreach Team Bob and Colleen Lamberty for their special efforts in organizing the class; thanks also to Vera Day and Roberta French who went the extra mile to put on an enthusiastically attended Welcome Celebration Reception in the narthex after the second service. See back cover for pictures. Gathering around the Lord's table, caring generously for people in desperate need...and adding new disciples to our fellowship...does it get any better than that? We are doing what churches are meant to do: GROW in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was a banner day, indeed! 2 P a ge 2 T rinity-tril ites November 2015 Family Promise All Saints Day All Saints Day is one of the real hidden treasures tucked away in the Christian calendar celebrated on November 1st. It is that time when we reflect on the saints (fellow believers) that have gone to be with the Lord in the past year. All Saints Day is a time of thoughtful, joyful remembrance of those friends and loved ones in Christ who have had an impact on our lives. This year, we will observe All Saints Day on Sunday, November 1st with Holy Communion at both services. During the 10:30am Traditional Service there will be a special time of remembrance for those members and friends of Trinity who have died in the past year. Hungry for Systematic Bible Study? Pastor Chuck continues the Tuesday evening Bible Study series called INTO THE WORD. Held weekly at 7pm, this hour-long study is currently into First Corinthians. This systematic, in depth Bible Study involves verseby-verse teaching as well as robust discussion. Join us and bring your Bible! Teach a Man to Fish. There s an old saying, give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime. That s what Family Promise is all about. Trinity has joined with 11 other churches in South County to be a part of this program for homeless families. Before being accepted, families go through a screening process. If they are accepted, they spend their days in the day- center on Shamrock, getting help with jobs, housing and other needs. Nights are spent at one of the churches for a week, where they are fed and housed. Each week, they rotate to another church until their program is finished. Trinity s response has truly been wonderful. Fifty-eight people have volunteered to help. If they are not used during our first host week, we will get you involved during the other three weeks that we have committed to. An orientation meeting for volunteers will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 until noon. Chef Graham will be firing up his grill and cooking a great meal for all who attend. If you miss this orientation, you may borrow a DVD being done for you, but no BBQ included. If you are interested in helping, (we still need two couples for overnights), have questions, or want to donate supplies such as baby supplies, food, board games or money to help defray costs, please contact our coordinators Graham Cofer ( ) or Barb Middelthon ( ).

3 P a ge 3 T rinity-tril ites November 2015 A Note from Our Choir Director It s hard to believe that the most wonderful holiday of the year, Christmas, will soon be here! To celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the Chancel Choir will present the cantata, The Promise of Light by Joel Raney. It will be on Sunday afternoon, December 6th at 3PM in the Sanctuary. Our choir is currently preparing the music for this cantata, and we are delighted that several Bell Ringers in the congregation will play the hand bells with the choir. Be sure to circle the date on your calendar and plan to join us. It is a wonderful way to prepare your heart and mind for this joyous season! Susan Brembs, Director Thanksgiving Eve Worship November 25th 7:00PM It has been a wonderful tradition here at Trinity Church for eighteen years now. We re talking about our Thanksgiving Eve Service. There are several things to know about this service. First, it is informal. Second, it is full of robust music and testimony. Third, it is a people s service where you have an opportunity to express your gratitude to God in a very personal way. The service will be held at seven o clock in the Sanctuary. The Chancel Choir will be there to lead and provide special music that evening. It is that much needed pause that allows us to gather just before the busy holiday weekend and to keep the hectic season to follow in God s perspective! So set aside an hour and come join us. We sing the traditional Thanksgiving hymns; hear the promises of God s Word; and visibly give thanks for God s blessings and grace given to us throughout the year. Our Offering will go to our Deacon Family Crisis Fund to folks in our church family in a crisis situation. Please join us on Wednesday, November 25th at 7:00pm for a time of heartfelt thanks to God the giver! Year End Giving Ideas... As you begin preparations for the holidays, have you included Trinity in your plans? We would like to remind you of the possible tax reduction option you might have if you own appreciated stock investments. Appreciated stock can be donated before the end of the year, eliminating capital gains on your tax return, and used as a charitable tax deduction to Trinity Church. Stocks can easily be sent directly from your broker to our Vanguard Account. For more information and to notify us of your plans, please contact Linda in the church office. Joshua 24:15 There are many ways to serve the Lord within the church. And we NEED each of you. In the coming weeks our Worship Team will be setting up an Usher / Greeter schedule for the coming months. Each Sunday morning our leadership will be at a table before, between, and after each of our worship services to talk with you about dates you may be able to serve in this capacity. See Doda at the Contemporary Service and Anne at the Traditional. We will each have a total of 40 angel cards and 10 gift cards. Gift cards are for $25 and are for the older children. Angel cards are for children between the ages of 3 months to 14 years. The card will contain their name, age, sex and a list of items that the children want for Christmas. All you have to do it pick your Angel Card and fulfill their wishes. Please do not wrap your gifts. Return Daylight Savings Time Ends November 1st. Remember to set your clocks BACK one hour. Help Bring Joy To Children In Venice Community them in a plastic bag. The Salvation Army will check to see that the gifts are age appropriate. Won t you help a child have a brighter Christmas this year? All gifts must be returned no later than December 13th. Last year, we did not meet our goal. Please help us reach our goal this year. We will be decorating the church facility for Advent and Christmas beginning the week following Thanksgiving, We will begin on Monday, November 30, at 10am, and continue through the week until the Halls have all been Decked. Come for a few hours or come each day till the job is complete. All help is welcomed and needed. Christmas Poinsettias It s time to place your order for our Christmas Poinsettias. They can be purchased in honor or memory of loved ones. The plants will be $7/each and will help to make our facility festive for the Christmas Season. You ll have the opportunity to sign up following the worship services beginning November 22nd or call the church office after that date ( ). The Ladies Annual Christmas Tea will be held on Saturday, December 12th at 3:00pm. Tickets are $15/pp. The program theme is Follow The Star. Be sure to mark the date on your calendar and plan to attend this uplifting and festive event. Tickets will go on sale mid-november. Talk with Diane Jansen ( ) about reserving and decorating a table. November 1, 2015 Every day in countries around the world people are persecuted because of their belief in Jesus Christ. Let us join together on November 1st for International Day of Prayer for our persecuted brothers and sisters.

5 P a ge 5 T rinity-tril ites November 2015 Men s / Mission All Church Event SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH Hot Breakfast and Mission Update 8:30-9:30AM The Men of Trinity will be sponsoring a very special event on Saturday, November 14th and have invited the entire congregation. Special guest speakers, Dan and Elizabeth Turk, mission co-workers in Madagascar. The Turks serve with FJKM, as its minister to the population in the domains of health, environment, agriculture, and safe drinking water. Dan and Elizabeth also work as advisors to FJKM in the fields of environment and health, respectively. The Malagasy people use these skills to help their community and families to achieve improved food, security, and nutrition. Elizabeth helps the staff of FJKM health department design and implement a community health program. Trinity Presbyterian Church has been pleased to help support their ministry for the past 12 years. They want to share with the Trinity congregation how your dollars are at work in the mission field. Plan to join us on November 14 for some good food, fellowship, and presentation by our PC(USA) Missionaries in Madagascar. We look forward to this time together. Acts 14:27 It s no secret that having two worship services year round one Contemporary and one Traditional makes it seem like Trinity seem like it has two congregations. To get everyone together under one roof seems as challenging as herding cats. Well, listen up all you cats. We really do need to herd you all together. Session has called at Towne Hall Meeting for the whole church to meet between the two services on November 15 th. It is just under an one hour in length from 9:50 to 10:40am and will be around tables in the Community Life Center. The reason? Our leadership would like to outline our 2016 VISION & FINANCES. By God s grace we want to make it happen. Session would like you to be informed, ask questions, and make PRAYER PARTNERS Prayer is an essential part of our daily lives as well as coming together to pray for each other, the church, community, and world. Our Prayer Partners meet every Wednesday morning at 9:30am in the Chapel. We share scripture, prayer concerns of our congregation, and give praise to God. Please consider joining us, for more information contact Barb Winsmore ( ) or Dee Jepsen ( ). suggestions on how we can make Trinity Church an even more effective instrument in the Lord s hands. So what are the particulars? Well, if you come to the Contemporary Service you ll hear a shorter sermon [Please hold all applause.] because it will end fifteen minutes earlier! If you are a Traditional worshiper it means you ll start fifteen minutes later at 10:45. We will be mailing an information packet out to the congregation the week prior to the Meeting. Our previous Towne Hall meetings have been extremely well received. This year our goal is to have 250 of our members and friends attend this meeting in the CLC. The challenge is there.
