4 Sermon Outline What & Why??? Faith and Suffering Job 1:1 and 2:1-10 and Romans 8:26-28 I. The challenge to suffering: If this is a good world, created and sustained by an all-powerful, loving God, why is there suffering and pain? II. The grand of God and humanity is: CREATION--FALL-- REDEMPTION--RESTORATION III. The key word in Genesis 2:16-17 in relation to humanity impacting God s creation is: IV. God created creation... V. Why does God not stop random acts of suffering from occurring? A. Do not underestimate the influence of upon God s good creation B. God may desire good, but there are also forces at work in the universe that result in suffering VI. The challenge of suffering: Where is God when we are raw in our emotion and we just want God to take the pain away? Why does GOD not stop the pain that is more than we can bear? VII. Job does not get an answer to his suffering, Job gets in Job s misery VIII. The Biblical response to is: God will meet us in it and sustain us through it. IX. In Jesus suffering has the final say Life Application: Where do I see suffering in the world? Where am I suffering the most right now? Can I trust that God meets us collectively in the suffering? That God meets me in that suffering? Can I trust that God can even bring redemption out of the suffering I am going through? Am I able to surrender the suffering I see to the loving hands of God? May we find comfort in Christ who knows our suffering since Christ Himself experienced suffering. Scripture Reflection: Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. First Church, Pastor s Page BE A PART OF TRANSFORM PA Mark down the dates of August 1-5. August 1-5! August 1-5! Those will be the dates of this year s TRANSFORM PA!!! (Formerly our Williamsport Mission week and Transform Lycoming County). If you are wondering why the name change it is because each year since we began this mission opportunity we have had an increasing number of satellite sites join us beyond Lycoming County! So now we can impact more than just our city and county! We have the opportunity to impact parts of all of PA! As much as we want other churches to join us in this endeavor (we praise God for the response of so many other churches), we still want this to be a major focus point for US at First Church. We believe that Transform PA is such a significant way for us to be used by God to bring about transformation in our world that it has become one of the 18 primary ministries areas for First Church. We believe that God is using this week to impact and transform the lives of many as we seek to offer the love of Jesus Christ in tangible ways. However, the only way this week reaches its full impact is if ALL of us join in. There are tons of ways to be involved. You do not have to be a skilled laborer to make a difference. We need prayers, deliverers, food preparers, donations, and willing hands along with those who can offer some skilled labor. You can come for one day or the whole week. But the point is, please COME and be a part of this week in some regard. Please consider taking a day (or two) off of work (or even the whole week!), working with your family, or just making a difference in the name of Jesus! This week is designed to be an all First Church endeavor. The only way it can be that is with YOUR participation. So please prayerfully plan NOW on how you can be a part of this week. Please be in touch with Aaron Russell (arussell@firstchurch.cc) as our Director for College and Community Outreach or visit our website for more information. Jesus said to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). Let us use this week to really put these words of Jesus into practice. In Christ, Pastor Matt
