Through the Sacraments, prayer, and the stewardship of our God-given gifts, we provide opportunities to grow closer to God and to serve members of the community.

2 Our Lady of Hope This Week WE ARE TO TAKE UP OUR CROSS EACH DAY AND FOLLOW JESUS CHRIST Today s Gospel emphasizes what is required to follow Christ. We must set aside our selfish desires and take up our cross each day to help build up the kingdom of God. This involves sacrifice. Rather than conforming to what is popular in our present age, we must strive to do what is good and pleasing to the Lord each day FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications LITURGY OF THE WORD The first reading tells of the inner struggles Jeremiah experienced in being faithful to God s call to serve as a prophet. The second reading exhorts us to lead lives that are holy and pleasing to God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that all who desire to lie as one of His disciples must take up their cross and follow Him FAITH Catholic-Publishing and Communications STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT FOR THE TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME In today s second reading, St. Paul exhorts the Romans to total stewardship. Brothers and sisters, he urges,...offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA COLLECTION The Catholic University of America, located in Washington DC, is the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States. CUA offers students an excellent education in a faith-filled atmosphere that is grounded in the Catholic intellectual tradition. Some of our own diocesan priests have received education and have specialized in different ecclesiastical courses and are now serving our Diocese. Next week is the National Collection for the Catholic University of America. Every dollar given directly supports aid for students from dioceses across the country, including our diocese. Please be generous. **The church office will be closed on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day.** Last Sunday s collection 8/27/17 $6, Same Last Year $7, Weekly amount needed $9, Last week s shortfall $2, Attendance 8/27/ Same Last Year 491 Thank you for your generosity in returning to God some of what He has given you.
