Even the secular, unbelieving segment can enjoy Christmas, and the story of the birth of a baby, even though claimed as the Messiah by Christians, poses no threat. But the celebration of the resurrection of the One who claimed to be the Son of God following his death by crucifixion, doesn t fit easily into the secular, unbelieving mindset. But as followers of Christ, we are aware of the crucial importance of the resurrection, which is foundational to our faith, giving us assurance of a living Savior who has forgiven us and is transforming us into his likeness through the Holy Spirit. The risen Christ is Lord of all, and we celebrate him as our personal Savior but also as the hope of the world, even of a world that seems dominated by oblivion to and even antagonism toward his claims and promises. At Dale Heights we re a small congregation, but we have reason to have a great celebration in worship on Easter Sunday, April 21. The first disciples, who received the stupendous news of the empty tomb and then saw the risen Lord for themselves, were also a small group; but they had a great celebration. Their joyous discovery ignited their hearts and gave them reason to celebrate their risen Savior, not just once a year, but in weekly worship (even changing their Jewish Sabbath Day worship to Sunday, the Day of the Resurrection) and in daily Kingdom living, witnessing and loving service. They were truly a resurrection-celebrating people whose contagious living and witnessing spread the gospel like wildfire. And although we re a small group, we too at Dale Heights have a great reason to celebrate this Easter Sunday, and as Christ transforms and empowers us, he can use us to make a great impact on those around us. The message of God s love can spread from us like wildfire. I look forward to worship with you dear folks at Dale Heights, as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. No other celebration should even come close!

The menu will be: Orange juice, coffee, milk and water baked cheese dish with and without ham bread, butter, margarine, jam or jelly pork sausages hard boiled eggs and Easter candy hot cross buns and Edi's special fruit salad. Donations will be designated for "One Great Hour" We could really use your help on Saturday, April 20, at 10 am to prepare the food and the tables as well as on Sunday morning with the last minute preparations and the clean- up. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Concourse or give us a call. Gratefully, Edi Chan and Vreni Straubhaar We are always welcoming new choir members. We meet Thursday evenings for rehearsals. 4 Property and Finance Committee Meeting Highlights Tuesday, March 12, 2019 Personnel matters: learned that the Accounts Manager s revised contract discussed at our February 19 meeting was approved by session retroactive to January 1, The Accounts Manager will come for the financial portion of future Property/Finance Committee Meetings, as needed. The custodian job description was discussed, with the idea of possible improvements being made to the description. Financial: Reviewed financial statements as of 2/28/2019. Decided that it was not yet necessary to transfer more funds into the checking account. QuickBooks Pro 2019 software has been purchased. Changes in formats for Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss Budget vs. Actual were recommended. The changes to Balance Sheet will allow comparisons of four quarters plus December 31 of the previous year. The changes to Profit and Loss Budget vs. Actual will make Budget vs. Actual comparisons easier; for example, items recurring monthly will be spread out equally over each of the 12 months. For items concentrated only in specific months, the budgeted amounts would be reflected in those months. For example: snow plowing expenses over the months of November through March; lawn mowing over the months of April through October; Presbytery per capita budget in January. Drainage and ice problems: Recommend getting a price estimate on trenching and sump pump installation for the MATC classroom is drainage measures become necessary. Ice Problems: new roof tape was installed because both Pastors office leaked. Plumbing: a new toilet was installed in the concourse bathroom (and the walls of the concourse bathroom and kitchen were painted and the floors cleaned). A toilet in the lower level women s restroom also needs replacement. Building requests: Sah-lang would like to arrange the purchase of two metal storage cabinets, one for their use, and another for the Tibetan Culture and Language Saturday school. To accommodate these cabinets, the lounge are furniture will be inventoried and reviewed with the idea of best accommodating all groups that currently use the space. 5 DALE HEIGHTS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SESSION MEETING MINUTES Sunday, March 3, :30am The regular meeting of the Session of Dale Heights Presbyterian Church was held at Dale Heights Presbyterian Church Sunday, March 3, The meeting was called to order at 11:36am and moderated by Pastor Roger Roberts. Session members present were Edi Chan, Melanie Klump, Wendy Weber, Rick Shannon, June Zeeh and Nathan Tripp, making a quorum. Janice Krall was also present. Pastor Roberts opened the meeting with prayer. Moderator s Report Ministry of the Word and Sacraments: Sermon preparation and delivery for Jan. 27, Feb. 3 (communion), 10, and 17. Worship service planning/input for above dates Planned for Midweek book study series Made plans/outline for music service during my vacation Feb. 21-Mar.1. (Grateful for June Zeeh, Emily Volland, Judy Ferreri and Gerry Klump!) Attended lecture by Rev. Fleming Rutledge at the Upper House Feb. 15 (CE event) Ministry of Pastoral Care and Outreach: Phone calls, , visits to members, esp. homebound, ill, elderly Jan and I hosted prospective member and couple for dinner. Took Communion to member on Feb. 3 with Jan and June, and Wendy on Feb. 6 Assisted Pacifique parents with cab rides during sub-zero weather Ministry of Administration: Moderated Session meeting Jan. 20 and Annual Congregational meeting Jan. 27. Session meeting and annual moderator s report for Church Members Meeting Wrote Feb. and March Focus articles Attended Worship Committee meeting Feb. 17 Proofed bulletins for Office Manager Attended John Knox regional gathering Feb. 2 Clerk s Report Approval of minutes of January 20, 2019 Session meeting Approval of minutes of January 27, 2019 Annual meeting (minor change noted) 2018 Statistical report submitted Committee Reports Property and Finance -Report from committee meeting on February 19, 2019: The stage in the fellowship hall has been built by the Sah-lang Church. The 2019 budget is not yet complete. It was agreed that Hannah would be invited to attend Session to explain the budget and monthly reports. The expense of the office printer was discussed. It was suggested that black and white printing be used for the bulletins to see if that made a difference in cost. A gift for Jack Rose to thank him for all the work he does around the church was discussed. It was agreed that review and revision of staff job descriptions was needed to make sure they reflected our church s current needs. -Financials: reviewed financial documents as of 1/19/19.

6 Worship and Music Marcia has put a signup sheet in the concourse for those interested in ordering Easter flowers. Marcia is looking for people to sign up as Lenten readers and candle snuffers. Jamie is looking for people to volunteer as ushers for the fourth Sunday of each month. Outreach and Mission The tie blanket workshop held by Melanie on February 17 th was well received. Several Dale Heights members helped with the Pres House service and dinner on March 3 The proposal for the Senior Coalition to hold a board games class at Dale Heights on Tuesdays from 1:30-3pm was approved by common consent. Wendy will be presenting a program, The Building as Mission, at a Presbytery leadership event at Christ Presbyterian on Saturday, March 10 th. A potluck with guest speaker Michelle Anderson from the NewBridge/West Side Coalition will be held on March 24 th. The One Great Hour of Sharing offering will be starting soon. Care and Fellowship The annual Easter breakfast will be held on Easter Sunday. Christian Education A Lenten book study will be headed by Pastor Roger Roberts, using the book Tattoos on the Heart by Gregory Boyle. Copies are available for purchase for those interested in participating. Personnel Employees were given a 3% pay raise. Staff reviews still need to be finished. Old Business New Business Request from dog trainer to use church was denied via , as Dale Heights doesn t accept requests from forprofit groups. It was agreed that each committee should send in an entry for the Focus each month. Next Session meeting scheduled for April 7 th, 11:30am. Motion made, seconded and passed to adjourn meeting. Pastor Roberts closed with prayer at 12:46pm. Use your One Great Hour of Sharing calendar to learn about the many needs some people have in our world. Reflect on the calendar informing us about even the basic needs which we take for granted. Respond by filling your fish or write a check...or do both...to help others and also in gratitude for what we have. Never forgetting that we are all one. God s people. We are in this together. The official dedication will be on Sunday, April 29! Thank you in advance for opening doors by sharing in ministries of justice compassion, and joy through your support of One Great Hour of Sharing! Pres House thanks you and Outreach thanks you! It took much help on your part for Dale Heights to provide dinner for 50 UW students and other friends of Pres House on Sunday, March 3. You came to prepare the food, you baked brownies, you made financial donations, you helped in the kitchen, you were in community with the guests and you worshipped together with those who gathered! Thank you, thank you! Church Women United A field trip to Middleton Outreach Ministries is scheduled for Church Women United on April 5.
