Febrauary 25th and 26th, George and I attended the presbytery meeting at Covenant Presbyterian Cgurch in San Antonio. I am here to tell you that Mission Presbytery is alive and well. More than that, it is vibrant and growing. Over the past several months, the staff and a group of Teaching Elders (Pastors) and Ruling Elders (Elders of the local churches) have dealt with some very difficult and time consuming matters. They have negotiated the gracious separation of First Presbyterian Church, San antonio, and Leon Springs Presbyterian Church (San Antonio) from the PC(USA). They did this with intergrity, grace, and a firm commitment to witnessing to the love of God in Christ Jesus. Hearing of the work they had done and seeing the result of that work in action when the pastor of Leon Spring spoke to the gathered body filled me with renewed pride and thanksgiving that I am a part of such a church, the PC(USA). We did not just consider very serious and heart-wrenching matters. We also celebrated the ministeries of so many other dedicated people. We celebrated with Live Oak PC, a new church development, as they prepare to dedicate their first building March 6 and gave thanks to God for the spirit of renewal that is moving through Everlasting Hope PC. We heard from misionaries Melissa and Charles Johnson as they prepare to go to Zambia. We welcomed new ministers into Mission Presbytery, celebrated the ministry of retiring pastors, and joyfully approved the request of three applicants to become Candidates in the process toward ordination. We listened with excitement as Kathy Anderson told us about all the work being done to prepare John Knox Ranch for this summer s campers. Scholarships are availabe if you know of campers who would like to attend. We greeted friends and held hands and prayed and laughed and cried together. Through it all, there was a strong feeling that the Holy Spirit was in our midst, guiding, renewing, and transforming us and the presbytery that the world might become a sanctuary, a place of hope and possibility for all people. I give thanks to God that we are a part of Mission Presbytery for We are better together. Shalom, Linda

5 5 Stated Session Meeting Minutes January 17, 2016 A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order in Wooten Hall at 12:40 p.m. by Moderator, Linda Bourianoff. Present were: Moderator, Linda Bourianoff, and Elders: Elsa Aleman, George Bourianoff, Karen Laffere and Emily Rochford. Absent: Monique Paisley. Also present was Treasurer, Doris Lowe. The meeting was opened with prayer. Luke 20:1-8 was read and discussed. The agenda was adopted with a motion by George with a second by Emily. Treasurer s Report: was received with thanks to Doris. Doris will pay the benevolences using the proceeds from the Holiday Market plus some from the checking account to equal a total of 10% of our income. She has paid $1700 toward benevolences to date. Administrative Reports: Clerk s Report: The minutes from the November meeting were read and approved with one revision. Correspondence: None Worship Numbers: 11/ /6 21 with 19 taking communion 11/ / / / / /24 65 with 64 taking communion 11/ /27 19 Pastor s Report: Linda presented a list of the Twelve Characteristics of a Well-Differentiated Person. Linda married Chuck Middleton and Reba McCord on December 6 th. Linda is going to Portland. The Administrative reports were approved with a motion by Elsa with a second by Emily. Ministry Reports: Christian Education: The adult class is studying Genesis. Fellowship and Membership Care: Esther sent out 14 cards in November and 6 in December. Mission/Evangelism: Emily told about the letters to Eritrea that her students are writing and suggested that members of the church might also be interested in writing letters. The shoeboxes went to Kayambi, Ecuador. Property: the Open Carry signs are up. Stewardship and Finance: George presented the budget for Linda has opted not to take a salary increase. Instead she would like to have one Sunday off a month; therefore the stipend for visiting pastors has been increased. A motion to approve the budget was made by Emily with a second by Elsa. Worship: no report. The ministry were approved with a motion by Elsa and a second by Emily.

6 6 Annual Congregational Meeting January 24, 2015 The annual congregational meeting was held on January 24, 2016 prior to the close of the worship service. A quorum being present, the meeting was called to order at 11:20 a.m. by Rev. Linda Bourianoff. The purpose of the meeting was: To receive the annual reports for 2015 To receive the year end treasurer s report To receive the budget for 2016 To approve the pastor s package The annual reports were given by each elder. Thanks was given to Esther Rosales for sending 131 cards to members over the past year. George presented the budget for 2015 including the pastor s package. Linda will continue at the minimum half time salary and will take one Sunday off per month. Doris made a motion to receive the annual reports and budget and to approve the pastor s package. The motion was seconded by George and the vote was unanimous. A motion to adjourn was made Ben with a second by Doris. 8 8 Pondering the Resurrection of the Lord by Mary Karr From the far star points of his pinned extemities, cold inched in black ice and squid ink till the hung flesh was empty. Lonely in that void even for pain, he missed his splintered feet, the human stare buried in his face. He ached for two hands made of meat he could reach to the end of. In the corpse s core, the stone fist of his heart began to bang on the stiff chest s door and breath spilled back into that battered shape. Now it s your limbs he comes to fill, as warm water shatters at birth riveting every way.
